Meta reddit should not allow ads for gambling, religion, or pharmaceuticals

i dont know where exactly is the best place to post this, but i have seen numerous people complain about each of these types of ads.

i realize that reddit has to make money, but considering their selling points for reddits ad platform: financial discussions happen on reddit - i dont think the extreme amount of gambling promotion is a good look.

on a similar note, community based influence and trust should mean that we are not forced to see the ads that go against our values - like the hegetsus ads.

the weakest point is probably about pharmaceutical ads, but at the same time pharmaceutical ads seem like a headache that is not worth dealing with.

if you read all that, enjoy this gif

thanks, bye

Don't forget crypto and politics: similar trust and values problems there.

i agree 100% but crypto and reddit are pretty intertwined it seems, and political advertising is a whole other can of worms.

i do agree with you but i figured the three things i mentioned had a better chance of actually happening

A: Under the administrative rules and related technical standards, internet gaming and internet sports betting advertisements cannot target self-excluded individuals, Advertisements directed to the general public at large are not considered advertisements that target any specific individuals, including those that may be self-excluded.

reddit already knows everything; there is no use in resistance.

But srsly, the genii are out of the bottle, so to speak.

Unless the algorithm for such decision trees is open-sourced (and possibly data sets, or at least enumerate the inputs), then I would not trust such a system to not be misused.

It's like ESG. Or SJW. A band-aid to cover up the laceration (decapitation?), at its best.

The irony of a religious ad on this is the icing on the cake.

Couldn’t agree more with your post.

Agreed on all of those points, especially with gambling, a lot of kids use this platform too.

And yeah religious ads are incredibly annoying, so I'm fully in support there.
