I think you're unimaginative and boring thinking there's only one way to be imaginative.
Some people have the imagination to play as themselves in a completely different world/situation. That's the main point of character customization in the first place. To create a game version of yourself.
How closely it resembles you is normally determined by what options are available, the world setting, and how much you like yourself. If you have to completely disassociate yourself from the character to activate your imagination, that's on you, doesn't mean other people are boring.
People like to imagine themselves being in the video game. It can feel immersive. Now that is real imagination. And one of many ways to be imaginative.
And being imaginative doesn't necessarily mean you want to be creative. And people don't need to be creative if it's just game customization. You have no reason to concern with or judge what people choose to do with their creativity, especially when it's just a game.

Thought mine was pretty accurate. Had to update it with grey hair when I went to the PS5, though!
