My gf recommended I spend the afternoon outdoors!

This reminds me of when I was a kid, my family was on vacation at a lake house and I'd brought my playstation and spent most of the first couple days playing final fantasy 9. My dad was like, "you need to go spend time outside, go row around the lake." So I took the rowboat out, parked it in a corner of the lake and played pokemon on my gameboy in the boat all afternoon.

Reminds me of my father who wanted to stay in the rv and watch TV instead of going out and seeing the sites while traveling. My mother would try to make the best of it but eventually she would just pack things up and go home.

In my defense I was a kid at the time and at the height of my gaming obsession. I like going out and touching grass these days.

I'm the same way anymore. I don't find anything outdoors to be that entertaining unless there's a comotion of sorts.

19

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '24

If all he wanted to do was watch tv they could have just stayed home.

15

u/Anachronoxic Oct 05 '24

Maybe he did it for you guys more than himself?

We were traveling to visit my brother in Colorado.

Tough luck ... marrying someone, then having kids, but never wanting to go on vacation with them (i.e. spend time with them away from home, not while watching TV), is a bit shortsighted, to say it mildly. If all you wanna do is stay indoors and watch TV ... do us all a favor and just stay single.

That's how I am. My wife loves doing joint vacations with her sister and my in laws. Group vacations to me are social excursions and don't afford my introverted self the relaxation and break from work. We worked out an agreement where I can usually go home a few days early and relax at the house by myself. I spend all day long doing software engineering project management so by the end of the day anything social wears me down.

u/bigWeld33 Oct 06 '24

Not everyone starts that way. Families are tough for some people to handle but you donโ€™t done that beforehand.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '24

Not everything has to be entertaining. Life doesn't need to be a constant flood of stimulation.

6

u/Xeyph Oct 06 '24

I used to be like that as a kid. I know I was just a dumb kid but I do regret being so stubbornly glued to video games and not enjoying time with family more.

40

u/cwhb Oct 05 '24

This shit is so Reddit. Like just enjoy your games inside man, who are you doing this for, for karma? So many people on this platform have the personality of bots

4

u/Standard_Employee387 Oct 05 '24

Freedom Fighters was fire. Loved that game.

3

u/Jackielegs43 Oct 05 '24

This is some Facebook aunty humour, just needs a minion or two

3

u/Herr_Monti Oct 05 '24

3

u/Grenflik Oct 06 '24

In the mid 2000s?

1

u/PalebloodSky Oct 06 '24

Old tv and old consoles, PS2 Slim shown. Yep, circa 2005 confirmed.

6

u/AdvancedReputation25 Oct 05 '24

But who is your gf, the one on the left or the one on the right?

8

u/Lout324 Oct 05 '24

She will not be such longer much.

0

u/HerculeMuscles Oct 06 '24

What.

0

u/Lout324 Oct 06 '24

I bet Metal Gear Solid is the best game you've never read, champ.

I love video game Bros

-4

u/burrito_butt_fucker Oct 05 '24

I'll play Xbox with op for a little while, then make an excuse to go inside to play some smash

2

u/Lout324 Oct 05 '24

Nah. You couldn't.

-3

u/burrito_butt_fucker Oct 05 '24

I think that's up to her. I'm pretty good with Link.

I use him in Mario Kart too

2

u/IndependentCoat4414 Oct 05 '24

The ole dynex Mines still kicking from like 2012

2

u/SailsofKharon Oct 06 '24

When I was a teenager my friends mom said we had to go outside while she was at work. So we did the only logical thing. We built a blanket fort on the garage roof and played Xbox in there all day.

She was not impressed lol

3

u/Major_Enthusiasm1099 Oct 05 '24

Here before this gets up voted insanely

1

u/J_Productions Oct 05 '24

I always say I miss FL because I miss being inside outside lol, was the perfect balance just like this pic . Other states you cannot do this, the Lanaiโ€™s and pool areas, whatever you wanna call it, was such a vibe.

1

u/J_I_W Oct 05 '24

The original title screen is beautiful

1

u/KillAllRebels Oct 05 '24

I cut out and built an entire Gunpla model outside one day at a lake house, took all day and I talked on and off to family members who were asking what I was doing and what the model was from. Great day all in all.

1

u/Suwannee_Gator Oct 05 '24

Wow, seeing those two consoles next to each other is giving me so much nostalgia.

1

u/RadiantCool Oct 05 '24

I'm impressed with the black levels on that tv

1

u/DocEbok Oct 05 '24

This is why i've been loving my steam deck :D

1

u/fartwhereisit Oct 05 '24

What a gorgeous boot screen

1

u/carnaldisaster Oct 05 '24

The fucking OG Xbox! Man I miss playing on mine! Sad it's gone.

1

u/rabbidwombats Oct 06 '24

Iโ€™ve still got mine in storage. I donโ€™t have space for it at the moment, but when I doโ€ฆ

1

u/Deku_Hunter Oct 05 '24

Watch out for rain!!

1

u/Expert-Novel-6405 Oct 05 '24

Dude my boys and I were fortunate enough to be able to smoke shitty weed in a 3 season screened in porch fuckin perfect for gaming

1

u/abraxas8484 Oct 05 '24

i as well use a Dynex for my old school gaming needs.

1

u/NoMarsupial159 Oct 05 '24

Was this around 2001 by any chance?

1

u/TurboNinja80 Oct 05 '24

And you played Serious Sam. I know...

1

u/bucking_fak3d Oct 05 '24

Heck yeah! Little does she know

1

u/PenislavVaginavich Oct 05 '24

I'm honestly really impressed with the shape of your Xbox. Some incredible games on that machine that I miss all the time. I should buy an Xbox.

1

u/mpop1 Oct 05 '24

would a switch or steam deck be easier.

1

u/Betty-Swollex Oct 05 '24

reminds me of John Madden and NHL maybe..1990! on the mega drive in m8s garden!

1

u/Amigo0491 Oct 05 '24

Enjoy playing the loading screen

1

u/lems-92 Oct 05 '24

Beautiful machine

1

u/Hombrecangrejo26 Oct 05 '24

How it should be

1

u/Hypersora80 Oct 05 '24

Honestly? As long as you take the appropriate weather precautions (hydrate yourself, sunscreen, shielding the electronics from rain, etc) this is a great way to do both! It may look silly to others and sound silly I'm theory, but you're still getting fresh air!

1

u/Kev42o4o8 Oct 05 '24

Simpsons Road Rage is a good game

1

u/ZrinyiPeter Oct 05 '24

Are those really unmodded? Damn, what a rare sight.

1

u/willocrisp5000 Oct 06 '24

A bag of weed. It was a good day

1

u/clownshow59 Oct 06 '24

Dynex, fuck! ๐Ÿ˜‚

1

u/ztomiczombie Oct 06 '24

Modem TVs really handle being in bright environments un-like the old CRTs.

1

u/ReflectionFar3775 Oct 06 '24

Anyone remember the old Newgrounds Flash cartoon "The Decline of Video-Games"? It's probably like 20-years-old at this point.

I remember they did the same joke.

1

u/atlantis145 Oct 06 '24

Scrolled down far to find this!

"Melee!!!"

1

u/SkiMaskItUp Oct 06 '24

And time travel to 2005?

1

u/hamedullah49 Oct 06 '24

1

1

u/ioncloud9 Oct 06 '24

I still have my original Xbox. The hard drive died though so it doesnโ€™t post.

1

u/Gersation Oct 06 '24

Getting that โ€šoutdoor timeโ€˜ without missing out on the real classics :)

1

u/4b6rat0r_Ambigous Oct 06 '24

I hope you touch the grass during your outdoors session

1

u/DigitalAegis Oct 06 '24

Reminds me of this flash animation from years ago where they took smash bros melee outside since theyre always inside

1

u/T1mm3hhhhh Oct 06 '24

OG Xbox, havent seen that one in a while. Nice you still have a working one!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '24

I canโ€˜t believe it !! Freedom Fighters ๐Ÿ˜

That Game so heavily needs a Remake.

1

u/SlevinLaine PC Oct 06 '24

That is the way.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '24

Imagine having a GF

1

u/Screbin Oct 06 '24

Oof freedom fighters. That a a classic still want a sequel

1

u/Proud-Citron9849 Oct 06 '24

Who is playing with you?

1

u/Leonhoch5 Oct 06 '24

You can even invite her to play with you, isnโ€™t that nice?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '24

Freedom fighters!!!

1

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '24

โ€girlfriendโ€ ๐ŸŒš

1

u/Franuka Oct 06 '24

Haha nice, a bit hard to see with all that sunlight though, might want to put some curtains!

1

u/disco_isco Oct 06 '24

You should play Midtown madness 3!

1

u/Silver_Marsupial_378 Oct 06 '24

Hahaha Classic games

1

u/JuggerNogJug5721 Oct 06 '24

You need some Halo, boy.

1

u/Sintinall Oct 07 '24

An outdoor theatre set up would be nice. I dunno how the big situation is over there but Iโ€™d have to have my area netted off with bug screens.

1

u/subcide Oct 07 '24

"You haven't met her, she lives in Canada."

1

u/Amazoness_Queen Oct 07 '24

One summer in high school, I remember it being so nice outside but I was ITCHING to play Metal Gear Solid so I just brought the PlayStation out into the garage and spent the afternoon playing it out there.

1

u/Efficient_Sleep6863 Oct 08 '24

So what in the hell are y'all really talking bout?

1

u/The_Beagle Oct 05 '24

My girlfriend looking up from her game: โ€œHe should break up with herโ€

1

u/Dire87 Oct 06 '24

My gut tells me you don't have a gf ... this is "kid level" stuff, when mom tells you to go outside for once, not that gaming outside would be any fun ... well, you do you, but I'd be embarrassed.

1

u/halfspeedhalfsim Oct 06 '24

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

1

u/mikeo96 Oct 05 '24

This is about to blow up and I'm here for it

1

u/joendolok Oct 05 '24

What games did u play?

1

u/buds4hugs Oct 05 '24

Oh man, this is why I miss my first apartment. I could open the sliding door, set the TV & console outside with a power strip on the balcony, turn the couch around, and play that way basically feeling like I'm outside.

0

u/A_Litre_O_Cola Oct 06 '24

I bet the neighbors loved to hear that from their balconies.

1

u/buds4hugs Oct 06 '24

I used a gaming headset, still do, and I don't yell & scream at my TV like a man child

0

u/JonTheWizard Console Oct 06 '24

Freedom Fighters or Simpsons Road Rage, man thatโ€™s like picking between your kids.

0

u/CrappleSmax Oct 06 '24

PS2 and XBox? Shit man, you shoulda just went for a walk.

0

u/PalebloodSky Oct 06 '24

This is sad man take your girl on a hike or something

-1

u/TheAlienBlob Oct 06 '24

Nice first step. Now pull the plug and go enjoy the sunlight.

-5

u/ArrowOfTime71 Oct 05 '24 edited Oct 05 '24

With 25 year old consoles? Or did this happen in 2001?

1

u/CuriousOne-- Nov 08 '24

Hahahahahah good one
