The games industry is undergoing a 'generational change,' says Epic CEO Tim Sweeney: 'A lot of games are released with high budgets, and they're not selling'

Tim Sweeney apparently thinks big budget games fail because... They aren't social enough? I personally feel that this is BS, but what do you guys think? Is there a trend to support his comments?

Games are now:

80$ for the base game

40-50$ for DLC

60$/year for battle passes

Nearly unplayable at release due to glitches

Mediocre gameplay/story with too many cut scenes

But it’s probably because they aren’t social enough

Obviously the game you described failed because it didn't have lootboxes and microtransactions. That's what people actually want! /s

Do you remember when lootboxes used to be the enemies you killed, and if you had luck some of those enemies gave awesome things? i miss that, i love that.

I’m at the point with games where I’m not sure that I’ll buy GTA VI on day one because I don’t know what the state of the game will be on release day.

Just come to Reddit, if it's quiet it's probably ok, if it's on fire, maybe give it a couple of weeks.

Oh yeah, that’s the plan…let’s face it, I’m almost definitely buying it, I’ve been loving the series since GTA 3 and Rockstar has a track record of quality games. However, it’s been 10 years since we got a GTA release and if I’m paying $80 Canadian I want to make sure it’s worth it.

It clearly says the game is in EARLY ACCESS. Don't buy an early access game if you don't want to play an unfinished game! /s

EA’s latest product, in Early Access for 3 days before the street date

Tbf base game prices being $60 for over a decade was not going to last. $80 today is like $30 cheaper than $60 20 years ago.
