Media Max crashes with Kimi at the 2019 Belgian GP

Jan 09 '20
Kimi has collided with Red Bull on the first corner & lap of Spa 3 times out of 4 races.
- 2016 by Verstappen
- 2018 by Ricciardo
- 2019 by Verstappen again
And in every scenario, he's been the innocent bystander and each one of these collisions ruined Kimi's race completely. (2016 P9, 2018 DNF, 2019 P16)

Sadly thats true, but Kimi still has the most Spa wins on the grid (4)

Kimi was not the "innocent bystander" in 2019. He had half the bloody track on his outside!

Just by looking at the picture you can see max having his front wheels outside the track. Just non-sense dive that one.

Go watch the onboard of both

*Max gets too aggressive and tries to overtake Kimi far too late into the corner which results into a crash that ruins their races.

This sub is so set in, if you like a driver they do no wrong and if you dislike a driver everything they do is wrong.
Its okay to like a driver and still be able to say it was a mistake or to dislike a driver and still give credit.

I disagree. Max is hoping Kimi saw him disappear out of his mirror to the right or that Kimi leaves space through uncertainty over what's there but Kimi didn't and took a tight line.
It's really a question of what Kimi was able to see in his mirror which determines blame.
If Max was entirely invisible the whole time in Kimi's mirrors, then both can be blamed for a lack of caution. Racing incident.
But if Max was visible in Kimi's mirrors and disappeared right, then it's Kimi at fault.
Perhaps an understandable fault if most of your focus is ahead but you've still got to watch your mirrors.

Kimi might have looked into his mirrors right before Max lunged there. You could see that the whole field, except Max, braked quite early to get safely out of La Source.

The entire field braked early because they had cars in front of them. Max didn't until Kimi went for the apex.
Again, look at the replays of the start. Max had enough of the car alongside to stake a claim to the corner. Kimi didn't see him because starts are chaotic and Max came from further to the right than expected. Max didn't need to make that dive.
Both are at fault. Obvious racing incident.

Haha. I get downvoted because I say you should look at the onboards first. Lol. Not saying it isn’t verstappen his fault. It is his fault. But it isn’t as easy as saying he just drove straight into him.

Wellll...he was all four wheels outside the trrack limits when he hit him.

u/FranseFrikandel Max Verstappen ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Jan 09 '20
So you're trying to say Max did as much as he could to leave space for Kimi?

u/Borngrumpy Jan 09 '20
That's one way of looking at it, if he did get past without hitting him he would have had to give the position back anyway though for passing off the track.

It pretty much is. Doing that at Spa isn't clever. For that move to succeed, he would have needed the width of the exit to get his car turned and that would requite 3 cars disappearing.

This sub is quite toxic when it comes to things like this. You shouldn't care about up- or downvotes at all but I will upvote you if it makes you happy :).

The same happened in 2017(or -16, cant remember). Kimi had the line and Max tries to go through a non-existing gap
26
u/Ehralur I survived Spa 2021 and all I got was this lousy flair Jan 09 '20
That was also partially because Vettel shut the door on Kimi though. This was just 100% on Max.

u/Lanso1 Kimi Räikkönen Jan 09 '20
True, you are right. I remember it happened but couldnt remember jt as well as this one.

Still can't believe they call this a "racing incident" which is an amusing term in itself. Essentially anything and everything that happens after the lights go out could be dismissed as just a "racing incident" simply because it happened during the race. Animals traversing the track: "racing incident". Cars making an uneventful pitstop: "racing incident". Safety car going too slow: "racing incident". LOL
Crashtappen was going for a space that wasn't there instead of taking his medicine for a shitty start and fighting back during the race.
Why?
Imagine for one minute the theoretical line he would have had to take on exit if zero other drivers were in the race. The cars don't turn at 90 degrees, pivoting at the sidepods around a hairpin barrier! He'd have ended up sideways across the track, barely managing to turn the car to point it straight without exceeding track limits unless he did a 90 degree burnout turn!
Yeah I was going for a gap and Kimi closed the gap
No! The laws of physics meant there was never a gap because a gap in racing terms is something you can get through and come out the other side! Not just some empty piece of track that might barely accept your car's dimensions until you inevitably shoot out across the track in front of half the field!
The amount of petulance this kid gets away with in the name of "letting them race" makes a mockery of today's racing in comparison to the sort of racing that existed in the past*. Just because you get a shitty start does not give you the right to boot it into whatever real estate you see that will inevitably be closed by someone taking a realistic line. A driver who actually knows how to race and win at this very circuit, no less. Yet under the today's rules he goes without an appropriate fine or points on his license merely because he crashed out trying to take eau rouge with broken steering.
It's the same mentality that allowed Stroll to punt out Ricciardo who is about the best driver on the grid for avoiding clashes during starts and was clearly minding his own business ensuring the was plenty of space around him and Stroll just over cooks it and punts a Danny Ric from his blind spot FFS!
You guessed is: " racing incident ". Well, it did happen during a race, after all.
Can't wait for all sorts of qualifying shenanigans to be allowed like that bullshit in Italy as just " qualifying incident ".
- With the exception of Schuntmaker's filthy efforts. If he was racing under today's rules, he'd have won 20 championships by just punting everyone off the track. Team mate, tboned! Backmarkers, swerve in front of every one until they spin out on the grass.

He took the corner without exceeding track limits with broken steering but he couldn't have done it normally? And the McLaren you see behind him in the aerial shot seems to take almost the same line and end up just beyond the middle at the exit of the corner.
You can see the shots I'm talking about here: https://youtu.be/7sIkMy-17hY

As a not-Verstappen fan I'm hoping Leclerc gets the glories in the post-Hamilton era, screwing Max of the championships he thinks he's entitled to.
