Why the obsession with Penelope?

Most of the drivers aren’t dads. Just Max (stepdad and expecting) and Nico, I believe.

Magnussen and Perez as well, although they're out now.

Hulkenburg is also a dad.

You must be selling out theaters then, handsome

Takes one to know one right?

8

u/snonsig 2d ago

There was, like, no point in saying that

-19

u/epihocic 2d ago

What do you mean? I was answering the question. The reason people talk about Penelope and not Kmag's kid, is because one is cute, and one is ugly.

I'm sorry if that makes you feel uncomfortable.

What a fuckwad

I just realized we only have two dads on the grid next year and Max is one of them...(I'm in denial, he only just turned 18 right?! 🥲)

Multiple reasons. There aren't many drivers with (step)children right now, Max is often portrayed as the "villain" of the sport and it's nice to see the contrast in his personal life, Max is the face of the sport currently so he and his life will get more attention than others (especially with a famous partner/family as well) and in general I think it's nice to see that a young guy in the public eye, who could have anyone he wants, deliberately chose to be a committed partner and great stepdad at a very young age. Lots of people grow up in broken homes and imo it's great to see an example of it all working out, and Max being proud of being a bonus dad to P.

Nice post

Since when is max portrayed as the villain?

21

u/Slight_Bed_2241 Ferrari 2d ago

Is that joke?

-1

u/Infinite_Fall6284 2d ago

No, I'm mostly on f1 reddit and this place seems solidly pro-max. Am I missing something?

10

u/Slight_Bed_2241 Ferrari 2d ago

This place isn’t solidly pro anyone.

Since he started crashing into everyone's favourite drivers and also beating them

Children being funny, quirky or just bonding with someone gets a awww response from a large part of the population. Its cute seeing her and Max have such a great relationship.

As for why Penelope. Well most F1 drivers don't have Children. And those that do either have children that are to young or don't have significan't others that are as connected to F1 as Kelly is. Which means Penelope is pretty much the only child that somewhat consistenly pops up in and around the F1 paddock.

I think it's probably mainly because people have seen funny interactions between them on stream.

37

u/Dan_Of_Time Charles Leclerc 2d ago

There was a lot of viral clips of Max streaming when she comes into the room to see him and play with him. He always reacts in really funny and happy ways which is enjoyable to see not only because its nice, but because its an amusing contrast to the "visor down" way he is during race weekends.

Happy Max is enjoyable to watch, Penelope makes him happy, everyone wins

People like the contrast.

f1 redditors want Max to be their stepdad and they live vicariously through her

it's incredibly creepy how parasocial many people here are. The fact this has 11k upvotes is concerning.

-117

u/omaregb 2d ago edited 2d ago

I reckon it's a combination of weird Max dickriders having their unhealthy parasocial relations and just straight up perverts.

68

u/Aeometro Charles Leclerc 2d ago

damn if this is your reaction to a healthy step daughter/father relationship then i feel bad for you

-43

u/omaregb 2d ago

More like my reaction to the very bizarre overinvolvement of his fans into personal matters, which I do find quite disturbing. I see this has hit a nerve, I wonder why...

41

u/RobertMinderhoud Arrows 2d ago

Over involvement? They post a picture on socials and we think "hey that's cute" and carry on with our christmas. That is all

-27

u/omaregb 2d ago

Not talking about this specific instance, the original comment talked about fans that are obsessed with this child, which I do find unusual and weird.

46

u/bluelittrains 2d ago

The only weirdo here is you. People are enjoying pics from their favourite athlete having fun with his stepdaughter and you conclude they must be pedophiles? Straight up malicious take.

40

u/Morganelefay Racing Pride 2d ago

Takes a real special type of person to look at a (step)father/daughter relationship and think those appreciating it must be perverts. That's either insane projection in which case your laptop should be delivered to the nearest authorities, or just malicious hate.

-17

u/omaregb 2d ago

Talk about projection. Sorry you felt exposed by my comment, weirdo.

4

u/Morganelefay Racing Pride 1d ago

Why do you default to talking about perverts when it comes to Max and Penelope? What are you trying to tell us?

-1

u/omaregb 1d ago

I'm talking about people who are obsessed as per the original comment, not "defaulting" to anything. And judging by the overly defensive responses I got here, seems like there are far too many weirdos that felt attacked by my comment. Just to be clear: No, it is not normal behaviour to be especially interested, let alone obsessed, with some celebrity's child.
