He does not have a singer 911, just lended one by singer from time to time. Not to say that Albon doesn’t make enough for one but they’re literally unobtainable or millions of dollars to buy one from someone.

Singer worked with Williams Engineering, which is probably why they use their F1 drivers for promos.

Williams Advanced Engineering now Fortescue was spun out of Williams F1, different companies owned by different owners. Singer worked with WAE for the engine on the DLS, Albon borrowed one a few years back.

It's nothing to do with Williams F1.

Singer worked with WAE when they were still a subsidiary of Williams. They now market the DLS as having F1-derived tech.

It has a lot to do with Williams F1.

Are you guys talking about sewing machines? What are you all, seamstress wannabes?

Even the photo of just the engine looks fucking quick - I'd almost give up a chance to drive a 956 to drive one of these...

Actually, no.... the 956 still wins hands down as the dream car

Different Williams engineering.

Same Williams Engineering.

Yeah Albon makes enough and is connected enough that he's moved into "being able to afford the car is required but not sufficient" levels of car availability

u/Capital_Pay_4459 Nov 09 '24

Albon's an F1 driver yes, but he isnt Redbull/Ferrari level salary

39

u/Good_Air_7192 Nov 09 '24

I'm sure he's getting paid well.

Not singer 911 well, best case scenario is he might be making like 3 mil a year, after taxes( i doubt its that much) those singers go by multiple millions these days. I doubt he would spend all his earnings on a car

Coming from American sports and as a new fan of F1, it’s kind of crazy to me that one of the top 20 drivers in the top Motorsports division in the world might make as much as a random relief pitcher on one of 30 baseball teams, each with 26 man rosters. And half of those players on each team make way more than 3 million, which is seen as a paltry baseball salary. You routinely have decent, but not top players making $20 million dollars a year.

I know there are fewer events in F1 than there are baseball games in a calendar year, but with the F1 teams valuation skyrocketing into the billions in recent years, each team seems to be almost as/as valuable as many of the baseball franchises. So I don’t really understand why F1 drivers (who bring all the eyeballs to the sport) aren’t making way more money on just salary alone.

Because there are 20 seats - in the world - for F1. If you demand more salary, there are 100 other drivers who will happily take that salary for a shot at F1. You have to perform consistently and for a top team to be making bank as an F1 driver and to have the leverage when it comes down to contract time.

union incoming.

u/SemIdeiaProNick Ferrari Nov 10 '24

Thats essentialy the GPDA, they have even gone on a strike before

u/VOldis Nov 10 '24 edited Nov 10 '24

forgot about that. i feel like bernie has to die and his ghost has to be exorcised at least twice before they have power, but maybe one day.

5

u/gordon-freeman-bne Nov 10 '24

And then there is Lance Stroll...

The one remaining driver from generation-shit, a generation that included Mazepin, Sargeant, and Latifi...

19

u/ydktbh Kamui Kobayashi Nov 09 '24

I'm sure he isn't reliant on his salary, he definitely has investments if he's smart

u/VOldis Nov 10 '24 edited Nov 13 '24

he maybe, might have started saving when he got his new deal in may? Doubt it, but he was probably spending 80% of his money for housing, taxes, agent, nutritionist, coaching, flights, family, etc. just to get to the point where he can land a long term stable job and even begin to think about saving.

Hes rich now no doubt but albon's career has been one of perserverance.

u/Lower_Discussion4897 Nov 10 '24

He definitely was not spending money on flights, or any other expense that comes from travelling for work, it's all paid for by the team.

yeah f1 drivers never fly private. no pressure to join his friends or ... it doesn't even matter. it was just an example of one of many things where lifestyle creep is massively massively expected of top tier athletes to share with their loved ones, family and friends.

His buddies are making 10 times what he does but no one sees it that way. They're basically different socio-economic classes and its probably hard to navigate.

5

u/HeftyArgument Nov 10 '24

You people never seem to understand that the percentage rules of disposable income become less relevant as incomes rise, if you can live well on 20% of your salary, spending multiple years worth of that money frivolously is much less of an issue.

2

u/terminbee Nov 10 '24

It's actually kinda funny to think that there are doctors and dentists out there making more than an f1 driver. But I'm sure Alex could afford one through salary, endorsements, and investments.

21

u/m0nkeyhero Sir Lewis Hamilton Nov 10 '24

Doctors and Dentists shouldn’t be able to make more than sportsmen?

8

u/terminbee Nov 10 '24

It's more surprising that being 1/20 in the world doesn't put you far ahead of a relatively common career path. If you were a top 20 physician or dentist, you'd be making absolute bank. Most dentists aren't making 3 mil a year but it's not unheard of.

-3

u/HeftyArgument Nov 10 '24

And why would a top 20 physician be worth less than a top 20 driver?

2

u/davidsigura Nov 10 '24

In terms of the work they do? I don’t think you can compare - a doctor might be saving lives for thousands of people, a driver is providing entertainment to millions. They’re different things for sure in terms of how you assign value, what you value in that current moment or situation, etc.

In terms of the DOLLARS that each profession brings in though, if I had to GUESS I would assume a Formula 1 driver brings in much more value to Liberty Media as a marketing tool and entertainer than a top doctor does to their practice. And therefore, the driver should be worth X millions of dollars depending on their value to Liberty Media, while the doctor should be worth however much they bring in to their practice. But that’s an uneducated guess, I honestly have no clue how financially valuable a top medical professional is to the world.

What price do you put on 5 hr's work every weekend vs a surgeon who might work +70 hours a week, often 48 hr straight?

Ticket prices are horrible inflated, as is the price for a single sticker on the side of a car

As a surgeon who apparently makes F1 money I know that my small team relies upon my individual skills for our collective success

F1 drivers are often not even the best 20 drivers in the world, just the best at sourcing sponsors to buy their way onto the starting grid

I'm actually more impressed that this Singer is RHD. Still prefer my 70's V8 muscle as a daily though

1

u/cleyclun Nov 10 '24

Because those drivers serve millions of people worldwide, every year. A physician probably won't serve a million people in it's lifetime. It's not about which profession is more valuable to society; It's about demand.

4

u/CowDizzle Nov 10 '24

One up that and think about Twitch streamers and Youtubers earning more

1

u/SuperGT1LE Nov 10 '24

I couldn’t think of a bigger waste of 3 million dollars

6

u/iAtty Sebastian Vettel Nov 10 '24

They’re not entirely unobtainable. Especially for an F1 driver. They’re just expensive. When they first announced the DLS years back, we met the team from Singer at a Concours event. Back then, the cars started at $500k. I’m sure they’re starting near $1m now with a few-year waitlist. But I’d bet if any of the top 10 drivers wanted one, they’d get it before the next billionaire who is ordering one. I agree, they’re not easy to get, but neither is the AMG One, SF90 Charles got, etc.

4

u/whateverfloatsurgoat Super Aguri Nov 09 '24

He could buy a real enthusiast's 911 that ain't a gimmick for a cool mil - a black Yellowbird was sold for that price in 2018 !

(Loafers and jeans not included, though.)

2

u/TheCrudMan Sergio Pérez Nov 10 '24

When I was at the Monterey historics there were like 12 parked next to each other which was insane to see.

His salary is $3MM. Imagine spending over a third of your salary on a car.
