No, they’ve actually crossed over into the dark ether. Much quicker flight but far more dangerous. Gutsy move by the Captain.

My cabin crew friend did this many a-time with Emirates. She told me once their navigation stopped working somewhere over the ice and the other Emirates aircraft’s going to San Fran etc had to guide them 😟
