Apologies for the strong opinion here but i feel that if the exact same actions were laid out by any other well known “terroristic organization” the west would have blasted them to the Middle Ages already.

So I wonder, what’s holding us back now?

Well America also shot down an Iranian passenger jet years ago and the crew of the ship who launched the missile were given medals on their return home.   The US pretty much got away with it and people don't really talk about it.

So it depends upon the country and the power they hold.  Russia will get away with this too.

Russia already got away shooting down MH17, let’s not forget about that one

Of course, I'm just saying getting away with these sorts of things happens on both sides if the country is powerful enough.
