It's the new Skyrim for a lot of people. Open world comfort game. Pretty wild how CDPR turned it around

100% replaced Skyrim for me. I've played every quest and gig with male and female V from all the backgrounds and i just keep coming back lol

I can’t replace Skyrim for me, both have its different pulls

But it’s definetly sharing the stoplight if I want to play such type of game again

u/TheSmilesLibrary 22h ago

Skyrim is just one of those games you throw on for a month when you need it and then put it back down. Cyberpunk 2077 is a welcome addition to the genre

For my Skyrim is so good because you can just spawn in a random place (with mod help ofc) and do whatever you want not interacting with the main story at all (I don't even have dragons, I think they make the game worse) and still have a fantastic time.

Cyberpunk is more of a story driven game, it's not really it without story characters and all that.

Man you’re right, last time I kept coming back to a game like this WAS Skyrim. Huh.

u/Callewalle 1d ago

I just keep playing it.. i dunno how but it’s so good

14

u/Arkayjiya 1d ago

I still play both so it doesn't replace anything for me, but it definitely scratches a similar itch for me.

Cybercomfort

u/el_submarine_gato Corpo 15h ago

Yup. I was using SKyrim as my life sim/walking sim and this game has replaced it. I wish CDPR would just release something like CreationKit to open up modding even more. But what we currently have is already so impressive (custom clothing, vehicles, survival mode, immersion stuff, etc.)

u/Cleercutter 20h ago

Yea it’s awesome. Love it

It's just a great game

I was there when preorders started. I stayed true and never abandoned the game.

u/PhoeniX_SRT 1d ago

I outgrew the fucking T-shirt from my preorder. Getting fat(ter) sucks.

u/ExtremeBoysenberry38 20h ago

Never too late to get skinny(er)

u/Geologybear 10h ago

Get after it! You can do it!

u/LegendSniperMLG420 23h ago

Me too. I preordered the game December 2019 1 year before it ever came out. I remember they delayed it like 3 times and that yellow screen. We’ve come a long way from launch and the future of cyberpunk has never been brighter. Stoked for the new animated series and cyberpunk 2

u/Callewalle 23h ago

I still have my day one Collector’s edition!

u/Zjoee 17h ago

I'm a day one Xbox player. I've loved it since release, and I'm so happy how it's turned out.

u/ADDVE 1d ago

And the game on PC was banging since day one. Aim-dashing was the way

u/Jaehon 1d ago

Same here I played on my One X which was not as bad as the OG Xbox or PS4.

still pretty crazy that the peak was when the game was in its shitty state

26

u/Actionbrener 1d ago

Had unreal marketing. And it was a game that people really wanted. Plus, cd project red had a great rep at the time.

u/Infemos 22h ago

id argue cdpr has even more rep now especially after they turned 2077 from a catastrophic failure to arguably one of the greatest games ever made.

u/Actionbrener 21h ago

Yeah, sorry, my phrasing was bad. They definitely redeemed themselves.

u/kakucko101 Very Lost Witcher 21h ago

they also made the industry standard that it doesnt matter if your game is shit at launch, everything will be sunshines and rainbows if you fix it later

u/canderouscze 22h ago

TBH I loved the game even back on launch, the great storytelling and immersion was already there, it just wasn’t the polished masterpiece it became after DLC and 2.0

u/thorkun 19h ago

Yeah I had no problems with early CP77, sure there were some minor bugs for me, but nothing major.

u/skyfra4 1d ago

Pretty nuts. 10x the active peak of a game that just came out with expansion content this year (Starfield)

39

u/killingjoke619 Panam’s Chair 1d ago

Also Higher than Elden Ring which just recently had a massive dlc release.

41

u/Eglwyswrw Free Palestine 🇵🇸 1d ago

That's way more impressive. Starfield is on Game Pass, myself & most people I know never bought the game on Steam. There's simply no need.

But Elden Ring sold like hotcakes on Steam, 2077 surpassing it is awesome.

8

u/realteamme 1d ago

Does Starfield really have just 6K concurrent players?

16

u/skyfra4 1d ago

In fairness to Starfield I imagine most people played on Xbox since it was on Game Pass - that's what I did. But just comparing on Steam the difference is crazy

11

u/donovanflame04 Adam smash deez nuts 1d ago

On steam, it's pretty bad.

16

u/geologyrocks98 1d ago

Good. Maybe this will show Bethesda that their name doesn't carry weight anymore and they can't create lifeless worlds that players will mindlessly buy.

6

u/fghtffyourdemns 1d ago

Hopefully they will try and be better now instead of being lazy and hope for modders to bring life to their games.

I’ve been here since the pre orders, glad to see more continue to return or check it out!

Can’t stop digging Night City!

u/Comfortable-Heron391 1d ago

I just finished the DLC and truly believe this is one of the greatest RPG’s ever made

Me as soon as they announced an update for the photo mode I don't even use: shit, I should play it all over again

u/spilled_paper 23h ago

im planning on playing again today after the update to cars and photo. I just command line'd every car anyway. But i have an unfinished playthrough.

u/errortechx 22h ago

Bought it a couple years ago, saw how buggy the game was and was a bit too late for a refund, so I shrugged it off.

Came back in September and said “hm, I wonder if they really did fix the game” and by god this might actually be my favorite game of all time now.

14

u/Deshackled 1d ago

I bought the game on my Xbox One on day one and it was a GRIND. I actually, barreled through it and honestly it was Not Fun.

I started a new gig and ended up having to to focus on work a LOT, so video games had to take the back burner. Bought a decent (but not great) “gaming” laptop. Half for work (I’m in IT) and just couldn’t get into games, tbh, I didn’t even want to touch a computer for about 3 years, just too busy fixing, maintaining blah, blah “Work Computers”.

Anyways a few months ago my work contract came to an end and I had the urge to play a video game and remembered that my first run thru on Cyberpunk was largely dampened by the console. I actually meant to replay it on a PC a couple years ago, cause I knew an old Gen Xbox on a new game wasn’t giving it a fair shake, I just got busy with other things.

It is SUCH a good game! I love it. I don’t think of it as a placeholder for GTA which might have been in the back of my head originally. NOPE, it has a WELL developed story (which OG source material helped, I’m sure), lotsa little details.

Night City, imo, is on par with RDR2 in terms of scenery, this map is GORGEOUS. And technically, just because of its NUMEROUS BG elements I can’t believe it holds up as well as it does. After-all, a low poly mountain range is easier to render as a background than a dynamic cityscape.

It’s a legit, SOLID, VERY AMBITIOUS game that has legs.

I am gonna replay Elden Ring after I refinish CP/PL, but I am so glad I gave this a run on PC.

I'm on my third playthrough as cosplay Motoko lol. Game just doesn't get stale ever

u/Jaugusts 1d ago

man we will all be pretty old once the sequel comes but I cant imagine how insane that will be, if they make a online mode like GTA it will be even bigger I think thats their plan for next one

u/standapokeman 23h ago

I got a bundle 3 days ago, so that's me in there

u/R0N1NB0y 23h ago

Man in one of them but in PS5 To bad i cant experience the mods this community created:(

u/TGB_Skeletor The Night City Gunslinger 22h ago

As someone who bought the game in December 2020, i'm glad i didn't refund it

u/Skywrpp Sandevistan Stockholm Syndrome 21h ago edited 18h ago

So glad I got into it earlier this year, can't wait to do another play through next year, my current (and first) is at around 100 hours.

u/Western-Challenge188 20h ago

For a single player story game to have such a steady player base is pretty amazing

u/Desertdragon7 19h ago

played it 100% 3 times since it came out

u/CriesAboutSkinsInCOD 19h ago

Order the physical game and play it day one on PC and had zero problems with it.

Phantom Liberty with full Path Tracing on = one of the best DLC of all time.

I'm really enjoying Witcher 3 Next-Gen on PC right now.

u/Bones-Ghost 17h ago

The redemption arc of this game is truly amazing!

u/Parthurnax52 16h ago

How can I see these statistics on Steam?

u/Special_Plane_3646 11h ago

its not from steam its from website called steamdb

u/-xHardysX- 15h ago

Hats off to CDPR. I was a believer since the first version came out and the highlights beat out the negativities surrounding the game for me. Also, seeing them gaining the trust back from many critics is such a good ending for the game.

Was my first CDPR game too, since I have not played any of the Witcher games and they made me into a fan that will now follow up, what the franchise will be up too.

Thank you ❤️ (For breaking our hearts with your amazing stories 💔)

u/gogoak69 14h ago

It's immersion. The music, the world makes the perfect experience

The only game which comes close is Skyrim.

u/neo6891 13h ago

I play it currently. It was worth to wait. I bought OLED with 4080 gpu and the game is polished very well. Game is missing only the car tuning.

u/WesAhmedND 13h ago

I'm glad it's in a great place now, I really enjoyed it when it came out even with its issues but over the years I've been feeling very cynical about it where now it feels like a very shallow game

u/mongous00005 12h ago

I am a proud contributor :)

u/NKO_five Trauma Team 1d ago

Seeing this kind player counts makes me dream... Imagine... just imagine, if we had CP2077 MMO with that many players running around the city at all times. How lively it'd feel.

1

u/Lolekowski 1d ago

thats because of fortnite

-1

u/FluffehCobra 1d ago

genuinely kind of insane that such a broken mess of a game is still a broken mess of a game

you are not allowed to complain about Skyrim now

-1

u/franxlz 1d ago

Why do you care if it's a single-player game lol
