Advice My 3 month old kitten doesn't know when to stop eating

This is my first time adopting a kitten, he's been with me since he was a week old because his mother died. I have recently started giving him dry food and he likes it. The problem is he tore through the 3kg packet and ate too much. I sealed the packet again and kept it where I was sure he wouldn't reach (I was wrong). Tore through it again and his belly has been like this. Do all orphaned cats don't know when they should stop or is it just a kitten thing? Any advice on how to teach him is welcome.

Ps. 3rd one is an older picture of him for belly size reference (a very handsome boi he is).

Ps. I have now transferred all the contents from the packet to a sealed food storage container made from food grade hard plastic.

Advice WARNING TO CAT OWNERS

9.5k Upvotes

Just wanted to warn fellow cat owners, and pet owners in general

The other day I purchased a Clorox toilet tab. Its purpose is to clean your toilet, it goes into your toilet tank. I put it in my tank.

The morning after, my cat was extremely sick suddenly. He was vomiting, very lethargic and hiding. His face was swollen and he was shaking.

I rushed him to vet. He started bleeding from his anus. My vet told me she didnā€™t know if he was going to make it. He had elevated liver enzymes and the vet was asking if he had gotten into anything poisonous. I was very confused, because I am very careful what I have laying around the house.

Long story short - I discovered he had ingested some toilet water somehow, after a long investigation. He has been in hospital on IV for 2 days. This was enough to almost KILL him. Please be aware of this! This incident has costed me thousands of dollars in vet bills.

Edit: also a heads up cats are attracted to the smell of bleach. Beware of any cleaning products in your home that contain bleach! Even a small amount is enough to make them sick.

UPDATE: my cat was discharged this afternoon and is recovering. Thank you for the kind comments, I am so blessed he is going to be okay. ā¤ļø

Advice Literally in tears from exhaustion. Cat will not let us sleep. Please help. Serious replies, Iā€™m begging.

Iā€™m at my wits end. I donā€™t know what else to do. This is Jack, heā€™s a bit over a year old, and he will not let us sleep.

  • Heā€™s not looking for attention because once one of us gets up, he just fucks off to do whatever and reappears the second we try and fall asleep on the couch or go back to bed.
  • We have an automatic feeder that goes off twice overnight.
  • He has two sisters and countless toys to play with.
  • Weā€™ve tried keeping him up during the day, doesnā€™t work.
  • Tried tiring him out before bed. Doesnā€™t work.
  • Been to the vet (as recently as three weeks ago), no issues.
  • Ignoring him doesnā€™t work. He just yells and yells, then starts doing things we canā€™t ignore like knocking over bedside lamps, messing with the expensive shades (came with the house, we arenā€™t masochists) and jumping on top of the mounted TV.
  • Squirt bottle chases him away but he comes right back.
  • Locking him out of the bedroom results in him howling and scratching at the door all night. Literally. He doesnā€™t give up after any length of time, weā€™ve tried waiting him out.

I donā€™t know what else to do. Itā€™s severely affecting my quality of life, I need sleep. Sometimes itā€™s not until 4:30 but lately itā€™s been nearly all night after 2am. Hence me posting this at 3:30am. There has to be something else we can do. Please for the love of god let there be something. I am so tired.

Advice My girlfriend left the door open and our cat ran out of the house. It took us all night to finally find her. I got mad at my girl friend for it, but she believes I'm just being dramatic. Am I?

Advice My neighbors moved and left thier cat behind.

It's been two weeks since my neighbors left and haven't come back. They left thier white cat, who stays on thier porch waiting for them to come back. This is an indoor cat. I have some cat food outside for my cat and I've seen it come over and eat the leftovers. I don't mind it eats the food, I'm glad it will eat, but it will not let me near it. It runs off whenever I approach. Just sad how people can be sometimes. I don't know what I should do in this situation.

I own my own home, and I have three cats (plus two new babies I found outside). Two of them love to sit in the window when itā€™s nice out. They do nothing but sleep. We keep the windows open as we donā€™t have AC yet.

Advice I can't tell if my cat is enjoying the canine harassment, pls help.

5.5k Upvotes

I adopted a corgi this year and my cat seems to get along with him, but I can't tell if he enjoys it when my dog tries to play with him like this. As you can see my dog barely touches him, if at all, and my cat keeps running back to him when the dog scurries away! His tail is up and he's very rarely fluffed. Sometimes my cat will hiss at him when he's had enough and/or run to higher ground and I'll stop it at that point. However, I'm not sure if I should be stopping it sooner?

I sometimes also see my cat initiating the play by charging at my dog when he's laying down and then running away at the last second to entice the dog to chase him. They'll also take naps together throughout the day, so I know the cat doesn't hate him entirely, but it's hard to tell if he likes the play sometimes.

I don't want to stop the play if they're both enjoying it, but i also dont want my cat to be harassed like this if he's not really enjoying it in this video. Some advice from a cat communication expert would be so appreciated. P.S. please excuse the mess of my home, we're moving in a few months and have given up on tidying up all of our stuff šŸ˜

Advice My cat keeps bringing her kittens onto my bed, what do I do?

Post image

So my cat had kittens 25 days ago, they were originally staying under my desk in a tray with a blanket, but a few days ago my cat brought the kittens up on to the bed. Iā€™ve tried to move them back multiple times as Iā€™m scared I might roll over in my sleep but each time she brings them right back. Iā€™m unsure of what to do as I donā€™t want to cause her or the kittens any stress. Does anyone know why she is doing this or what I can do to keep kitties safe? TIA and pic for taxšŸ„°

Advice 18yo slowing down. How do I know itā€™s time to schedule a euthanasia appointment?

Post image
14.3k Upvotes

Mickeyā€™s weight has dropped drastically in the last year or two. Heā€™s at about 6.5lbs and now heā€™s all skin and bones. Had tests a year ago and thyroid and kidney function were fine. Going to the vet seems overly stressful for him now. In the past months heā€™s been peeing outside the litter box frequently despite 3 boxes around the house, energy and desire for cuddles has gone down, and begging for the sink faucet. Also from the last time he got groomed, his coat took about a year to fully regrow. I picked up a sedative prescription from the vet to be prepared for when I make a euthanasia appointment.

Iā€™m feeling guilty waiting for him to get worse, and the peeing outside the box is taking a toll on my mental health. How do I know when itā€™s time to make the final call to the vet? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Side note- His eyes have always been different colors, this is nothing new.

Advice but also mourning/loss I guess.

Our dear 17 year old Hillary (listen I was 8 when I got to pick her name, I'm aware it did not age well lol) is now at the point where, although she still cuddles, purrs and wants to be around us, is showing small ailments and an overall loss in energy.

She had an eye infection last month which we treated her for but the eye drops made her super unhappy. Now that is solved but her tooth is infected and she would need a surgery to fix it.

Together with the vet we decided we would rather spare her those last months of slowly declining and upping the meds and grant her a peaceful death at home (vet is coming in to give an injection).

We would like to give her the most heavenly food in her last hours but to be honest I'm not getting any further than salmon. What would you suggest?

Other than that any tips on grieving are welcome. We're feeling super guilty on one hand by deciding her day of death but really think it's better than trying to keep her here as long as possible but with surgeries and meds. We're bringing her to a special crematorium where she will get a beautiful end and we will get her paw print.

I'm dreading the day the vet is coming so much and can't stop crying whenever I see her lil judgy face (she has insane rbf). Suddenly realized there's an entire community here I can ask advice from!

Thanks in advance for any advice :)
