Is he too fat?

When I adopted him he was so small and skinny, but now he seems too big, I feed him once a day but his weight gain is still a lot. I just don’t want to make him unhealthy. My mom and boyfriend keep saying about how chunky he is, or that he’s always getting bigger, but he seems like a normal weight to me. He definitely looks pretty big at some angles though. I got him at 8 pounds, I haven’t weighted him but he’s sitting at 10-15 right now.
