It took me a while, but I no longer trust or believe what I read in any " news " paper.

Metallica talked about this in eye of the beholder.

Yeah I even stopped believing in scientific research after seeing the lobbying to make unhealthy things appear healthy or the oil industry trying to hide oil's effects on Earth.

It's a crazy thing to not be able to believe any of this stuff but this is what it came to.

u/Tequesia2 11d ago

Wait, you stopped believing in empirical evidence because marketing was allowed to lie to you? That doesn't make sense....

u/AnamiGiben 11d ago edited 11d ago

I didn't mean in the sense I believe the opposite of what's said to be true but more like try not to see this new information as a certain truth, what I mean is just reading an article fully doesn't cut it you kind of have to "see it for yourself".

Because of the "publish or perish" nature of academia and all the lobbying you can see there being wrong conclusions drawn from data on purpose or on accident and what many believe are only the conclusions.

I mentioned this on my other comment but will write here too: This is almost the same as blindly trusting an open-source software since anyone can see it's source code it has to be safe right? What if you don't know programming and thus can't read the source code? This part seems to be similar to the case of checking the conclusions of a research, not everyone has the necessary information about the subject so they can't do it then you have to trust some people that can do it but how do you choose who to trust?

Do you choose to trust the people that align with your current knowledge? Do you see the majority believe it and consider that source or authority trustworthy? (these were my possible guesses for a method to choose who to trust)

0

u/AnamiGiben 11d ago edited 11d ago

How do you choose to trust which one of the researches about the same subject when you are faced with multiple researches with different conclusions? Do you have an authority that has already gained your trust so you trust it if that authority reviews it and says ok that's good?

Do you research it yourself? Surely you can't do that for every single thing so that's out of question.

I mean giving trust is a weird thing, do you trust most things if many people (or "your people") believe it by default?

I see it similar to defaulting to trust open-source software since you know it's open-source anyone can read the source code surely no one would put something malicious there but there have been many cases of backdoors being impletended on these stuff and some going unnoticed for years (I don't remember it's name but there was some Linux distro like that).

Wait, but then how do you argue with people who disbelieve the science proving that global warming is real?

u/AnamiGiben 11d ago edited 11d ago

I could believe what we've done to Earth causing it irreparable damage for example and I could think "Man sure does every summer keep getting hotter and hotter." but these would be based on emotions and more on "noooticing the summer pattern" (for my case).

I don't know if you have done research on global warming yourself or how you did choose to believe the side you believe since you know both global warming deniers and confirmers (maybe the wrong word) are "doing science" but one side must be drawing wrong conclusions without noticing or on purpose to claim two opposite truths.

For anyone it would be easier to believe in a Mathematics proof than a Physics one for example since "seeing it for yourself" is easier to do for Mathematics, I kind of guess this last part might not make any sense.

I myself couldn't argue with anyone like that basically.

It took one of theirs getting assassinated for then to just barely take notice. I consider Luigi a hero.

They kept going with their investor meeting while their buddy Brian was still bleeding right outside on the sidewalk. They’re hyenas…

‘The shareholders offer their thoughts and prayers to Bryan and thank him for his service to the board’

No, not hyena.

Piranha.

The way they try to make him look bad is pathetically desperate.

The rich are scared.

Who is the guy on the left?

Exmarine daniel penny who was found not guilty of killing Jordan Neely on a ny subway despite holding him in a chokehold that knocked him out permanently:

“Before he encountered Penny, Neely, a former Michael Jackson impersonator, ranted about being hungry and thirsty and said that he wanted to return to jail and didn’t care if he lived or died, witnesses testified. Penny, 26, a former Marine and Long Island native, placed Neely in a chokehold that prosecutors said lasted almost six minutes.

A forensic pathologist hired by the defense testified that Neely died from a combination of his schizophrenia, synthetic marijuana, sickle cell trait and the struggle from being in Penny’s restraint. But the medical examiner who performed the autopsy on Neely, Dr. Cynthia Harris, told jurors it was her medical opinion “that there are no alternative reasonable explanations” for his death and that those proposed by the defense were “so improbable — that it stands shoulder to shoulder with impossibility.””

I personally find it insane that it wasnt at least manslaughter.

Lmfao holy shit they’re so fuckin out of touch it’s numbing my mind

They’re trying to crucify the one we’re all collectively cheering for as a society

and on the other hand they’re calling a guy that killed a less richer guy on the subway a hero

Holy shit im ready for the next broad day visit to somebody important

37

u/Round_Skill8057 12d ago

Oooooh that guy. Wtaf. Why are so many people willing to be shit bags for money?

3

u/Njavr 12d ago

Why would you leave out the bit where Neely threatened to kill other passengers?

[9] Vázquez told The New York Times that Neely began screaming, “I don’t have food, I don’t have a drink, I’m fed up. I don’t mind going to jail and getting life in prison. I’m ready to die.”[6] Another witness heard Neely say, “Someone is going to die today.”[3] Penny said that Neely repeatedly threatened to kill other passengers.[10] Vázquez said that Neely was frightening but had not assaulted anyone.[6] Other witnesses said that Neely made “half-lunge movements” at other passengers and was within “half a foot of people”, and recalled fearing for their lives.[3][11] A mother with a child testified that Neely charged at passengers, and she shielded herself and her child behind a stroller, believing she might die.[12]

Yeah thank you. These two situations are so different comparing them is wild and shows a lack of intelligence

The Subway Strangler. Some marine that put a guy having a schizophrenic episode on a subway (he didn't physically attack anyone) in a chokehold for a long time, so of course the guy dies. A marine trained for killing oughta know that, which is the argument people are exclaiming.

Of course because the guy killed was black and the dude that killed him is a vet, right-wing media praised the dude and more so now that he is free.

u/Relative_Mix_216 12d ago

The peons are supposed to kill each other, never the masters.

7

u/ec1710 12d ago

I also don't know his name off the top of my head. The only people he's a "hero" to is those who'd like to exterminate the homeless.

106

u/profyoz 12d ago

I’m sorry but “rich, educated and deadly” being the headline they use to try to villainize Luigi is hilarious. He’s already gorgeous and purported to be super kind by those who knew him personally, now the media is just sprinkling sexy, anti-hero glitter all over him. I hope he is acquitted, but if he isn’t I think reading his fan mail will take up the majority of his sentence.

29

u/WhinySocJusDude 12d ago

In all honesty, I heard that he only got a 2nd degree murder charge. Like this makes me wonder if Luigi is just a fall guy (or he does know the actual shooter and is taking the fall for him).

Also while he is a handsome devil, his actions and his apparent kindness to those around him are what is ultimately important. If the asshole who strangled a homeless man in a subway can be acquitted, so can Luigi.

But if Luigi is acquitted (whether factually or through jury nullification), he will still be in danger. The sad reality is, they will be sending in hitmen after him and those people will not be prosecuted no matter how fucking brazen their own murders are.

17

u/EmPhil95 12d ago

Apparently in New York, 1st degree murder is only for if you kill a cop or have killed someone before (and maybe some other specific situations). 2nd degree is what was expected in this case.

1

u/WhinySocJusDude 10d ago

That is unusual. In many places killing an on-duty police officer is an automatic 1st degree murder (and all but guaranteed if the police officer was in the process of fulfilling their duties). What other circumstances other than premediation is needed?

In Canada, cop killing is 1st degree, but so are all killings by poison, no matter what. Even if someone you weren't planning on killing previously and you impulsively poisoned their coffee and they died, that is 1st degree when any other method (shooting, stabbing, etc) would have been 2nd degree or even manslaughter.

u/Relative_Mix_216 12d ago

I love how an established newspaper doesn’t even put an Oxford comma in their headline

6

u/Xywzel 12d ago

They also use inverse colon, having the quote first, then speaker after colon, which is very much against most style and grammar guides I have seen.

24

u/specks_of_dust 12d ago

“rich, educated and deadly” and "privileged life helped fuel belief he could get away with murder"

These things describe Brian Thompson.

i love this subreddit, good to know that there's at least 90,000 out of 350 mil that are capable of critical thought

Pretty sure not everyone here is from the same country...

8

u/BlueberryBubblyBuzz 💙 12d ago

True but it's definitely more than half Americans. I wonder if we should do a poll. That would be interesting. Continents maybe? Or just parts of the world like "North America" and "Europe" and "Middle East." Idk, hmmm there might be too many that way :(

Free Luigi 🇺🇸

u/Candide2003 12d ago

The man who murdered a mentally ill, homeless stranger gets to meet presidents, but the man who killed an executive we know built his wealth by denying and delaying lifesaving care is dangerous.

”Know your place, peasant.”

u/Acceptable_Fox8156 12d ago

I think Americans need to realise that the people they follow have no intention of helping the normal, working or lower class person. The obsession with money and power will always come first.

Capitalism is a helluva drug.

9

u/Lainarlej 12d ago

The dude is a hero!

u/Fhantom1221 12d ago

Kyle Rittenhouse shot two innocent people in the street with an assault rifle. And killed them. He was a threat to hundreds of people, and he was illegally carrying. Also, I faked paperwork to get the weapon... off scott free.

18

u/I_madeusay_underwear 12d ago

Yep, that’s who I always think of as the most blatant example of a murderer being let off and worshipped. It kind of seems like he’s had a hard time of it with those conservative media guys, though. Fine with me, still so much better than he deserves.

6

u/Away_Location 12d ago

He was at a turning point event at a nearby city college and I was told he requires an emotional support dog nowadays.. oh, the irony

6

u/Jimbohamilton 12d ago

The victims were also unarmed, weren’t they?

3

u/ForGrateJustice 12d ago

Turning Point gave him a fucking standing ovation with ticker tape.

1

u/IEatTacosEverywhere 10d ago

While he does have an extremely punchable face.. the surveillance tapes show a different story. He upped the game carrying like he was and a couple idiots took the bait. I mean for sure hes a POS,. But he was attacked by a couple dummys.

I dont understand why the insurance assassin is in the same breath as Rittenhouse. They're about as far away from each other as is possible. The only similarity is black powder.

Innocent?

u/DaSemicolon 12d ago

Are you really surprised? These are right wing tabloids

1

u/anarchyrevenge 12d ago

It's just propaganda and most critical thinking people aren't buying into it.

1

u/elephantineer 12d ago

Republicans want to lower healthcare costs by murdering homeless people while the left wants to murder heartless people.  Democrats are scared shitless because they're realising that they rather help trump uphold the status quo than help luigi.

1

u/Jack_crecker_Daniel 11d ago

Let's hope they just misplaced the sentences

1

u/DevilsMasseuse 11d ago

The lesson? It’s ok to kill a homeless mentally ill person. In fact, you get lionized by the media for it if it happens to disturb normal people on the train.

But go after an elite making $10 mil a year, and all of a sudden the media goes after you. After all, the rich run the media and next time it could be one of them.

u/imnotrealanyway 10d ago

Penny was never facing a long time in jail. For the first charge that was dropped it would have gotten him out in less than 10 years if convicted, the 2nd charge carried a potential 4 year sentence.

The amount of hate and vitriol that these people put into defending a guy who clearly accidentally killed someone from doing a very small amount of time in prison is nuts.

Meanwhile they put people in prison forever if they have too many non-violent felonies
