Travel 🌎✈ Just took a job in Alaska, tell me everything I need to know!
Hey yall! I just took a job in Ketchikan, Alaska. I’m coming in from out of state and will be moving there in a few months. I’ve been watching video after video, looking up post after post, but it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of us out there which can be extremely daunting! Is there anything I need to know before I move out there? Any tips? TIA!

Seriously, watch out for moose. They are responsible for many deaths out there.

I’m not that far north but I did learn that the risk factors for Seasonal Affective Disorder (winter blues) include being black and female. So if you can get one of those daylight lamps before you go it might be worth it. And even when it’s cold you should make a point of spending time outdoors in the day. I know that’s still hard for me when daylight hours are all while I’m at work.

Those MF mosquitoes are the size of birds.
Mud. GD mud and mosquitoes go together
Moose
There is nothing more beautiful than sunrise and sunset in Alaska.
The sky is huge and blue and beautiful. You feel so small in the best way possible.

I literally just came across this Reddit thread about sexual safety for women in AK, that you might want to read -- https://www.reddit.com/r/AskAlaska/comments/1b97p50/living_as_a_woman_in_alaska/
