My brother's void does this, but he prefers burying his head in the blanket and drooling all over it :)

My grey with black stripes likes to do this but uses my skin instead of a blanket. I'm not always awake when he starts.

How was she ever in a dumpster?

u/Giggity___ Apr 29 '22
That’s what I’m saying! We were on our way to Jersey Mikes and came home with a kitty and no sandwich 🥲

u/anthonyynohtna Apr 29 '22
Damn, my local Jersey Mike’s is actually a Jimmy John’s and all I get are crappy sandwiches with no kitty. 0/10 would not recommend
6
u/wingkingdom Apr 29 '22
I much prefer hot sandwiches so I was disappointed the first time I went to Jimmy John's and everything was cold sandwiches. I haven't been back.
The Jersey Mike's we have is actually in a converted gas station. It's out of the way so I don't go there very often but the food is pretty good for a chain sub shop.

u/CandidGuidance Apr 29 '22
Man, I LOVE jimmy johns. That #9 big Italian or whatever. mmmm MMMMM so good!
We don’t have them in Canada so it’s a forbidden fruit for me, maybe that’s why I like them so much
11
u/HappyGangsta Apr 29 '22
How did you catch her? I’ve found stray kittens many times (including yesterday) and they are nearly impossible for me to catch.
15
u/vendetta2115 Apr 29 '22
I have three cats and all three of them literally walked up to me as kittens. Food helps, but sometimes you just gotta be the cat whisperer.
Cat 1 ran out in front of my car and I had to slam on the brakes to keep from hitting him. When I got out of the car he ran right up to me and started rubbing against my leg.
Cat 2 walked up on my front porch when I was sitting outside, jumped into my lap, and fell asleep.
Cat 3 I heard meowing outside in my neighborhood, so I put out some cat food and eventually he got full enough to trust me, I guess.

u/Giggity___ Apr 29 '22
A can of wet food got her to come out and we were able to get her in a carrier! She wasn’t too feral luckily but still hissed a bit. Brought her to our vet to get checked out and didn’t have a flea on her! Must not of been there too long.
1
u/HappyGangsta Apr 29 '22
Interesting. Did you put the food in the carrier as a trap?
7
u/Giggity___ Apr 29 '22
Nope! Once she ate a good amount, I was able to pick her up and put her in it! Pictures

Did you put her in a tanner “just to get a base”?
25
u/shantastic_100 Apr 29 '22
My favorite thing about Reddit is that It’s Always Sunny is quoted in most every sub
23
18
u/Giggity___ Apr 29 '22
Huh? Lol
82
u/kneelise Apr 29 '22
There’s an episode of the show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia called “the gang finds a dumpster baby” in which a group of objectively terrible people find a human baby that has literally been left in a dumpster. Being horrible people, they try to profit off of this baby, but because it is white, they can’t profit off of the baby in commercial/tv work because “white babies just don’t sell”. They try to take the baby to a tanning salon “just to get a base” so they can pass it off as non-white, they get rejected because obviously you can’t put a baby in a tanning bed. They take the baby back and discuss different ways to change its skin color and one character suggests shoe polish.
Hope that helps lol

u/babyBear83 Apr 29 '22
Wow. Matter of factly explaining an always sunny episode to someone who’s likely never seen it, is a hilarious task. It’s almost a crime to even explain the shit they do, lol.

This is another step to eventually me binging the entire series in under a week.

My oldest cat is called DB after that episode, as he was a rescue cat. My other one is called Gail the Snail.

she has to hold the blankie in her mouth 😭😭😭
16
u/Eodillon Apr 29 '22
My kitten does this too, it’s like they’re suckling on it. I think it’s common enough for orphaned kittens
20
u/KeziaTML Apr 29 '22
Generally a sign that they were taken from their mothers too early.

My trash cat does the same thing, I think I found mine before he was properly weened off his mother, but it was only him when I found him, that was almost 10 years ago now
8
u/luusyphre Apr 29 '22
My cat started doing this after many years. Not sure what prompted it. He especially likes one blanket, we call it his "biting blanket"

It’s cute
-7
u/Green_8_1 Apr 29 '22
No it's not cute, it's orphan diseases and this mean that kitty was taken from mom to early
7
u/Range-Aggravating Apr 29 '22
Cat was found in a dumpster, think its situation is 100000 times better than the alternative.
1
u/Green_8_1 Apr 29 '22
I don't say anything regarding owner or how kitty was found, only about people thinking that this is cute. One cat will be ok, second will have orphan disease but third will be aggressive and will have problems with litter box
0
u/MeccIt Apr 29 '22
Always amazed the facts get downvoted, I guess people would prefer to think this kitten is kneading dough.
4
u/BrassAlex Apr 29 '22
Basically all cats knead. General agreement seems to be that they do it when they're happy.
Some people do suggest that holding the blanket in its mouth is an indication it was separated from mum too early, but overall this cat seems OK.
1
u/Green_8_1 Apr 29 '22
It's seems okay, but this type of behaviour can end with obstruction because cat swallow parts of fabric. It's not so rare

Wait .... do cats normally do that !! I thought my male cat was trying to fuck my blanket and pushed him away now i feel horrible.
7
u/Zyxche Apr 29 '22 edited Apr 29 '22
Yup. It's quite common for cats to do that. The sucking especially when they've been weened too early. It's a comfort thing.
But honestly your cat could be wanting to hump. I think you're just gonna have to see if he does. It's kinda cruel to not let them knead or suck imho. But i understand your fear. Time to see which direction he goes! Heh

u/Alexblain Apr 29 '22 edited Apr 29 '22
My cat does that too and I am also not quite sure whether that’s a nursing or a mating behavior. He does it on his own blanket, so he can go at it as much as he wants.
Edit: Apparently, this is called kneading and it they may appear to be humping. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kneading_(cats)
2
u/Rikku88 Apr 29 '22
Eh, my male cat does this and DOES hump the blanket at the same time, it is annoying. It wasn't always a sexual thing, used to just be kneading and purring and blanket sucking, but I think ever since we got a dog it's his way of showing some dominance over something else in the house (that's what my vet said at least lol)

Awe such a cutie. I have a rescue who has his bed by my pillow and he needs me to be touching him, but not always petting, while he does his version of this. If I'm doing it wrong, or looking at my phone, he meows at me. Everytime I move it, he's almost one now, he comes looking for it and I have to put it back. Lol. The rescue guys are extra special, in my opinion.

My cat does this too. Can someone please explain the reasoning behind this?
8
u/paranoidinfidel Apr 29 '22
I'm no authoritah but the kittens knead their mommas to stimulate milk flow and the blanket sucking is like nursing their momma. I think they do the actions when they are older when they feel comfortable - usually just kneading though. The suckling might be due to being weaned too early but I can't back that up. Someone more in tune than myself should chime in.

u/Green_8_1 Apr 29 '22
Do you know how old was your cat when you got him or was taken from his mom? It's often symptom of orphan disease

u/Giggity___ Apr 29 '22
Something about being weened off their mother too early. They do this exact thing when they’re nursing.

I had a solid grey dumpster baby! He kneaded, and sucked on blankets too.
He also balled up pillows and humped them.

She may have been weened too early from her Mama or it may be this is her way of feeling secure after being left in a dumpster. Thank you for adopting her!

Lol she gets them trimmed when she goes to the vet.. which isn’t that often 🙃

u/RemarkableCock8464 Apr 29 '22
I used to have a male cat that would do that. Cutest thing.
And then he'd finish it off with a cum shot because he was basically jerking off.

All 3 of my cats do this! And I know for a fact that at least one of them was not taken from mom and dad until she was over 6 months old! Definetly not weaned too early!

Awwwww! Yes, probably removed from her mother too early by whoever put her in the dumpster.
Chewing cotton should be okay. If she starts going for wooly and fleecy fabrics or carpet you may want to try substituting a cat toy. Don't let her get a taste for yarn, string or microfibre cloth.
