I dunno why my brain insisted on reading "causes flashings" for a solid minute, and I was real confused how a caulk gun would do that. I still don't know what a flashing is in terms of caulking it, but I assume that makes more sense.

Flashings (in this context) are flat metal strips that slide up under roofing shingles and some have raised rubber sections to go around plumbing vents chimneys etc. They keep the rain from getting in around necessary roof penetrations.

I’m an electrician but I do a lot of solar work so I install a lot of flashings to mount the solar panels and bring the conduit down from the roof for the wiring. I use said caulk guns to apply silicone sealant to the bottoms of the flashings.
