Question Basic Housing in Bali

So I’ve been researching for a property to leasehold for 15 years but I don’t really need a pool but just a basic 2 bedrooms ensuite, kitchen, living room type setup. Are there such property types in Bali?

Information Nye in Seminyak without going to beach club

Hi all, hope everyone is well after Xmas? I was interested in booking something (or a few things) for nye in Seminyak. Really not interested in beach clubs, dj etc. Traveling with mid 70s mother in law. We've got accommodation near Oberoi Street but don't mind walking 30 mins. Really like great food, experiences, live music (I prefer rock but classics work too). Don't have to be up at midnight that's not super interesting for me these days.

Thanks in advance!

Question Wellness/Fitness Retreats in Bali

I'm considering a trip to Bali with hopes of either spending 1-2 weeks experiencing a wellness-like retreat, with a hope of finding one with the following criteria:

- allows me to engage with other similarly-aged (early 30s), like-minded individuals

- includes high-intensity fitness opportunities

I'd be curious if anyone has participated in something worth sharing, or if anyone knows of a short fitness program worth experiencing, I'd love to hear it.

Question Looking for a place to propose in Ubud.

Coming Monday I will fly to Bali and arrive on Tuesday in the morning. My girlfriend will be there after being apart for 5 weeks. First we will stay in canggu for 2 days. Then we wil go go ubud on January 2nd where we will have some gastronomic experiences. I am looking for a nice place to propose to my girlfriend. Someone told me to contact a cycle tour around Ubud and then choose a spot to do it. Would this be nice? I want it to be beautiful and intimate for the 2 of us. Thanks for your answers in advance.

Information Is there good scuba diving near Uluwatu?

Hi all, I'll be visiting Bali in February with a friend. Our last stop will most likely be Uluwatu. She is flying home earlier than I am, so I have 3 days and would like to go scuba diving. Is there nice scuba diving in Uluwatu, or do you recommend going somewhere else? I wouldn't want to go to NP for that short amount of time, and ideally I'll be not too far away from the airport. Thanks for any recommendations!

Information Reliable agent for boats?

The agent I’ve used for years is no longer operating and I’m looking for someone to pre-book boats to Gilis (I know I can book direct but have always found it significantly cheaper via an agent). Ideally Kuta based so I can head to the office from the airport to sort everything, though I’ve often just paid the driver or at the harbour which is ideal.

Information Looking for Untold Stories in Bali to Document

Hi everyone!

I’m an independent filmmaker based in Bali, and I’ve just completed a documentary on stateless children in Sabah Malaysia. I’m now looking for compelling stories here in Bali to document for my next project.

If you know of unique, untold stories whether they’re about inspiring individuals, cultural traditions, environmental challenges, or social issues I’d love to hear them. I’m particularly interested in narratives that reflect resilience, innovation, or perspectives that often go unheard.

Question Could baby get sick from pool water?

We are going to a very reputable hotel/resort with our 6 month old - who is a massive pool lover, has a habit of trying to lap up water when swimming.

Obviously we try to avoid this, but she inevitably eats a bit of water when in the pool.

Will she get sick from being in the hotel pool? Is the treatment from the pool enough to prevent this?

Anyone had this happen??

Question Any Tech Entrepreneurs in Bali?

Hi Bali community,

I’m a software engineer turned entrepreneur, living in Canggu. I’m exploring solo entrepreneurship and would love to meet others in the tech/startup scene here.

Any recommendations for meetups, communities or co-working spaces?

I'd also be excited to grab a cup of coffee and chat with anybody looking for a like-minded soul or even a tech co-founder.

Looking forward to meeting some of you!

Cheers.

Question Looking for Higher End options for Komodo trip - any recommendations?

I'm hopeful the experts here can help! I've been reading up 3d2n and 4d3n trips to explore Komodo. Many of the top listings on google for booking are all third party booking agents. When digging in on those it seems like any issues that arise locally they are not anywhere to be found which I am not a fan of.

Anyone here have recommendations on specific boats or people to work with for booking? We will be on our honeymoon and my bride to be i know would appreciate a more comfortable boat option with proper sleeping quarters, a nice bathroom, great food, etc.

We are open to shared or private charters.

Question Spots to work or co-work?

Looking for a place to plop down my laptop and work for 4-6 hours a day.

Like a day club for nerds?

Going to be in Canggu for a few weeks to do some writing. I have a nice work space in my Vila, but I'll need a change of scenery at times.

1st time in Bali. I'm clueless.

Any and all suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks!

Question Komodo Cruise - planned ahead or book on arrival?

I've read that you should wait until you are on-site in Laguan Bajo and book the cruises from there. Is this true? What if they sell out? Could I potentially get a cheaper price as a solo rider if I wait?

I will be there in May.

Question Police outside church this morning

This morning for Christmas I went to a local independent church on Nusa Penida. Standing outside were 6 or 7 police officers. They remained there for the entirety of the service. Does anyone know why this was the case?

I have my own theories but I'm wondering if anyone knows for sure?

Trip Report Are Grab taxis to cheap?

I’ve been on holiday in Bali for the last 4 days & have used the Grab app to organise a couple of taxis.

However, the prices seem far too cheap?

For example a taxi from Canggu to Medewi came out to 400k IDR.

This is a 2 hour (+) drive & the driver can’t guarantee a job back to Canggu. He rang before the journey and said he would do the journey for 600k which seemed much fairer so i gladly accepted.

How are the drivers able to earn a living that allows them to support a family with these Grab prices? The costs in Bali close to the tourists areas must have risen significantly & running a car isn’t particularly cheap.

Question Passport expires in 5 months; can I still enter Bali?

Hi,

My partner and I have a trip to Bali planned for later this week. We arrive on December 29 and leave on January 8. We've really been looking forward to this holiday. I've read heaps of tips about places to eat and activities to try on the subreddit. It will also be my first time visiting Indonesia; I'm excited to experience a new culture.

However, today my partner was in full panic mode. He just realised his Japanese passport expires in June, which is 5 months from when we arrive. Indonesian customs have a requirement that passports be valid for 6 months from arrival. My partner just calculated the months wrong in his head.

Because we both live in Australia, and he has a Japanese passport, I don't think he could get it renewed in time. Even if he paid for expedited renewal.

Can anyone give some advice how strict Indonesian customs is with the 6 month rule?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question Retired active expat living in Bali?

Which part of Bali would you recommend for a single, fit, active, and retired female (50s) to live? Would love to live in a safe community close proximity to a golf country club, easy access to restaurants and night life but away from traffic and touristy areas. Bonus to be close to clean beaches with clear water.

Also, what are the top 3 private golf country clubs to join and do they have homes on premise for sale or rent?

Thank you.
