My Dad is dieing at home of brain/stomach cancer. Can you explain this please?
My question is, how/why may he have appeared to be passing only to bounce back by the end of the day?
So my father is towards the end and he is bed bound at home unable to walk now, lost use of an arm and has been very tired and hard to understand for a week or so now.
Today we were convinced he was on the way out. He started the morning by having one or two chocolates and sweets. But went downhill. Complained of stomach pain so we gave him a small dose of Oramorph, one oral syringe.
Mid morning he went very very bad. Making all sorts of noises, saying things we couldn't understand and fading in and out. It was so bad we were all convinced he was going so said our goodbyes. He stayed like this into late afternoon.
We have nurses 3 times a day. They saw him morning, bad but fine. Midday very bad on the way out and then evening.
At their evening visit he was talking like he had been previously in the week. He ate some light food, was back to being as aware as he had been before the turn and then watched a TV show with us until 2100.
