do people really think a porn ban does anything but make the industry even more unsafe? how about we fucking regulate it like any other industry? people are getting more puritannical every year it feels like.

Banning porn isn't about the porn industry. Banning porn is about:

1) Ban porn.

2) Define "being gay or transgender" as "inherently pornographic"

3) LGBTQ people are now sex offenders and it is now illegal to teach or talk about them

They don't actually give a shit about the porn industry, but if they just come out and say "we want to ban LGBTQ people from existing or being talked about" then it wouldn't have as much support. The US federal legislature just got bipartisan support for legislation to "protect kids from pornography online" and part of the wish list agenda of the incoming administration is defining LGBTQ people as pornographic.

Even online and even in the context of "regular people," I think a lot of people think that a ban on something makes it just go away and don't realize that if you make something illegal, it will continue to exist; it'll just become more dangerous. Drugs, alcohol, porn, guns, gambling... I've always been an advocate for legalizing and regulating vices because it not only makes them safer when they're more out in the open, it also makes it easier to get help with things like addiction when you don't have to admit that you're committing a lot of crimes over and over in order to ask for help.

Sorry, I wasn't "deliberately" misunderstanding you. I was just regular misunderstanding you. Have a nice day as well.
