do people really think a porn ban does anything but make the industry even more unsafe? how about we fucking regulate it like any other industry? people are getting more puritannical every year it feels like.

Sex work has always existed pretty much since the dawn of man. When its illegal its bad for both workers and consumers. Porn would not disappear it would just move somewhere else where its more dangerous. And those people who consume it, will find other outlets for their vice. Hopefully less dangerous ones, but there are probably people who will start to engage in sexual harassment or assault.

almost every woman already has a story about harassment or assault, i don't think a porn ban would worsen things much on that particular front

Maybe it would, maybe it wouldn't. Why risk it? Plus disenfranchised women are usually the ones most heavily impacted by unsafe sex work. So while it might not affect the average woman, it will certainly affect those who already have it worst.

no i agree, it would be very stupid. i'm worried about young people who so easily get sucked into a SWERFy echo chamber on tiktok :/

That is unfortunately how it is. Youth has always been the ones to influence most easily as they have not yet formed solid stances on things, and that can be both good and bad. Sometimes they are the first to adapt on new good ideas and movements, and sometimes they are manipulated by malicious movements for their own gain.
