I can’t take anyone seriously who spells centre as center.

I think Gen Z call this “an ick”?

They are both correct although ironically, center is American English. I thought it was the other way round, dang.

Who cares? It's language. I personally hope we can settle on something consistent so there's less confusion. Don't care if it's American or British.

Implying that one regional dialect/variation of a language is inherently wrong, I think

English is from England

Spanish is from Spain, you don't see Spaniards correcting Mexicans when they say "celular" instead of "teléfono" nor saying they are inherently wrong

“Cellular” is a stupid word for a mobile phone

You think that because you don't know the history behind it

Just as I think "Macca's" is a weird nickname for McDonald's

I do know the history though

What, "color" and "gray" are incorrect too?

1

u/juanito_f90 10d ago

Yes.

Colour. Grey.

So you consider the spelling differences in American English to be inherently wrong?

u/juanito_f90 10d ago

Yes, correct.

See also: “Aluminum”.
