NI Specific How to go about getting an Irish passport with updated name/gender
Hi all, so basically I'm in the north and have a British passport. I'm in the process of getting a letter from my doctor + evidence in order to change my gender marker, I have a deed poll for my name as well.
I'd like to get an Irish passport eventually, probably once my current one expires in just over a year. Will I still need to go through a similar process? Or will the fact my details will have already been changed on my British passport, mean those will be the details used on an Irish one?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I strongly recommend you attempt to get your British passport/other legal ID in your new name, as we request a proof of identity, and it MUST match the name you want on your passport.
We don't accept deed poll name changes, only Gender Recognition Certs or two examples of two years proof of usage - ie, we require official government correspondence/letters from the NHS/tax documents, dated two years prior to your passport application.
And yes, we need your Irish Born Parent's (original, long form) birth certificate, and also their marriage certificate (if they are married).
It can take a while, so be prepared to wait for it. If you have any questions hmu :)

How exactly are you an Irish citizen?
Or will the fact my details will have already been changed on my British passport, mean those will be the details used on an Irish one?
I don't believe that has any relevance to an Irish passport. However the British passport office requires that you update your name on any other current passports first, so you'll either need to get your Irish passport updated first or turn it in.

Irish citizen since my mother was born here (I was born in England). I know that I'm gonna have to provide her birth cert as well
I don't have an Irish passport at all yet, so I won't have to do that first. I might not update the British one at all if it's not going to make updating an Irish one any simpler

You're an automatic Irish citizen then, not entitled to be on the Foreign Birth Register and thus can't get an Irish GRC - unless you become resident in the country. So you'll need the 2 years proof of using your name.

I'd suggest updating it anyway.

There is a section on gender change. The process for correct gender on the passport is a bit more awkward if you you donβt have a RoI birth certificate. So according to this you need Statutory Declaration plus documents that demonstrate 2 years in that gender (bills, bank statements, drivers license etc).
