On behalf of the mods I am pleased to announce The Trans Ireland Wiki.

This is intended as an up to date list of resources and information for trans people across the island of Ireland.

If you spot a mistake, missing information, or would like to otherwise contribute please comment below. Its fairly barebones right now, but we hope it'll grow and stay relevant over time.

ROI Specific Need some advice

I’m leaving England. It doesn’t feel like home anymore and I need to leave or I feel it will kill me, been offered a place to stay in Ireland for a bit by a friend and her mother. However, I’m just wondering what things I should be doing the moment I’m in the country? As in what services I can access possibly and what services I should be contacting, I’m more than happy going down the homeless route as I’ve done it before, I just rly need advice on the first steps I should and can take..

So I'm honestly just gonna be real and honest haven't started hrt or anything but I am trans. But honestly recently I've been super lonely just to hang out with someone and maybe just hold eachother cuddle type things would be nice. If anyone is interested in hanging out lemme know. I'm sort of not the best looking I guess but yeah I'm just tired of not having any affection in my life rn lol.

ROI Specific I'm sorry if this has been asked before (it deffo has). But what are people opinions and experiences with Gender Plus?

I have been looking into getting HRT and naturally NGS doesn't seem like an option anymore so I've been looking into private (as well as DIY but I'm not exactly huge on the idea) Gender Plus seems like a great option so what are people experience with them like? And is there other options I should be looking at?

ROI Specific Laser for GCS?

Hiya, I’ve been looking at GCS and vaginoplasty or vulvoplasty are the ones most surgeons are comfortable with. I know for vulvoplasty you don’t have to do hair removal but for vaginoplasty you have to do it and even for techniques like intraoperative follicular cautery it’s still recommended to do some hair removal.

I have a very low pain tolerance so I would much rather do laser but I can only seem to find clinics in Dublin(and the rest of the country) that do electrolysis but not laser for GCS, do any of you know any clinics that do laser for it or do you think it would be worth emailing some of the clinics to see if they would do it even if it’s not listed?

Is imago.tg good?

I was thinking of transitioning with them because its cheaper and less sketchy than gender gp. Is it good? Is there anything sketchy about them?

Can I use my preferred name on my CV if it’s different from my legal name?

I want to put in the effort in the new year and start looking for some work but I’m wondering if it’s okay to use my preferred name which is just the Irish version of my name on my CV if it’s not the same name (the English version) on my birth cert, passport etc Would that cause problems down the line if I were to get a job?

Looking for advice with under garment shopping in Dublin

Hello!

I'm visiting from the US and I'm in need of finding a half slip for a skirt I'd like to wear out one night. But with it being my first time in Ireland I'm not familiar with many of the stores or which would be supportive of transgender mtf or which would be better to avoid. I haven't had any negative experiences while here, but I wanted to ask for some advice first. I'm only in Dublin this visit so really looking for a place within walking distance of Trinity college. Peaches and Cream looks nice and the free bra fitting is appealing since I've never had one and been curious lately about starting to use one but not sure if they would be accommodating just because I'm unfamiliar with the area.

Thank you everyone so much!

First t shot

So, i took my first t shot yesterday, (sustanon) and it was painless! As the evening went on, I felt a lot of pain in my leg where I injected it, and it's not really terrible, but it does hurt to walk a little. It looks completely normal and fine, no signs of infection, so i think I'm just overthinking it, but is this normal? It feels like a really intense muscle cramp.

NI Specific How to go about getting an Irish passport with updated name/gender

Hi all, so basically I'm in the north and have a British passport. I'm in the process of getting a letter from my doctor + evidence in order to change my gender marker, I have a deed poll for my name as well.

I'd like to get an Irish passport eventually, probably once my current one expires in just over a year. Will I still need to go through a similar process? Or will the fact my details will have already been changed on my British passport, mean those will be the details used on an Irish one?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Imago - starting blood tests

How did you get the 'before starting hrt blood tests' done? I've seen the list on the imago website, did asking your gp to do them work?

Help would be appreciated.

ROI Specific Leuprorelin high tech prescription

I was prescribed Estrogen and Leuprorelin Acetate by Imago, but I'm only able to get the E since I need a high tech prescription for the injection. I have a DPS, and I've read that it won't be covered unless I get a high tech. Does anyone know which consultant I can/should go to to reissue the prescription? I'm based in Dublin, and I read that Dr. Ahern only covers Meath/Louth, so if anyone has any advice on what I should do now, I would hugely appreciate it

ROI Specific Contact for Tomas Ahern’s clinic?

I’m a current patient of his with just 1 appointment down, haven’t started hrt yet as I had to get my diagnosis and bloods done. I’ve since gotten both but have yet to hear from the clinic in regards to my next appointment. Figured I would try get ahead of things by forwarding the information to the clinic myself - but surprise surprise, no contact information given.

I was able to find contact details of his receptionist online but it appears to be info that was posted back in 2019. So i’m not sure it’s totally reliable.

Would anyone a phone number/email address I could use that is known to work?

Thanks in advance!

TransFriendly GPs in Cork

Hi, so I am planning on doing MtF DIY injections, but before starting I want to take bloods to see my baseline, and then also do the occasional bloods test to monitor my levels. I already emailed transharmreduction about a list of transfriendly GPs in the (north) Cork County Area but havent gotten a reply yet. Does anybody know? Or atleast know where I can look other than emailing places and not hearing back from them. Thanks.

ROI Specific Cheap Blood Tests Limerick

Hi all I was wondering if anyone knows a place I could get bloods done in Limerick preferably not too expensive. My GP isn't able to do them as I'm using Imago and their not based in Ireland.

Edit: I'll probably explain this badly but my understanding is that my GPs insurance doesn't allow them to collaborate with non irish healthcare providers. My GP has lots of other trans clients and was recommended to me for being trans positive and they've been emailing the NGS trying to get me an appointment so I can get my testosterone on my medical card. They've said that they can't do the blood tests as there isn't any reason they would be checking my testosterone levels other than for my transition.

Irish Life Pre Surgery Approval?

Hey, I am a trans woman aiming to get my SRS done in 2025. I am with IrishLife health insurance but pre surgery approval is required in order for them to contribute towards the cost. I was wondering if anyone has experience with them for their bottom surgery? Any info you can provide of who you went to for the written approval / completing the pre surgery approval would be really appreciated! Thank you.

An interesting story of multiple transitions

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/12/18/trans-laird-samantha-kane-sues-nhs-third-sex-change-surgery/

This girl has changed gender 3 times and is suing the NHS for refusing the third surgery, leading to a self financed SRS in Serbia which resulted in complications post surgery. The NHS finally performed corrective surgery but only after a 3 year delay.

This girl is well financed, maybe if she had less cash, she might have stopped at just one gender transition?

ROI Specific Best route for top surgery?

I'm sure this gets asked a lot but I want to explain my own situation to maybe see if anyone has any advice better suited to said situation.

I'm a college student, 19. Been on testosterone for about 8 months (via ggp), and my finances aren't great. Unemployed currently, living on the disability allowance and whatever college grants I can get. Hoping to get some work over the summer to save up money. I'm on the NGS wait list maybe... 2 years? Ish? Unsurprisingly haven't heard a midge from them, though. Also, too broke & clueless for health insurance.

With all of this considered, what would be the best route for top surgery? I've heard good things abt a clinic in Spain but that's around 6k, and, well, I'm broke. I know it's a huge financial sink and I'm trying to save money, but if there's any other routes I might have missed, or things I should look into, please let me know. And again, apologies if this is a repeat question.

Thanks!

dnd dublin

hi! i'm beni, a 24 y.o. transfem coming to dublin from barcelona to visit my family for christmas (20-27th dec.).

this year i got really into dnd, and it's probably a shot in the dark, but if anyone's organizing a one shot and would like a random player come in, message me!! <3 <3 i have played and mastered, and i'm all around chill, would probably just adapt to the vibe and not take up too much space.

also, if there's any other kind of trans/nb meetup, i would be interested. on another note, i need some recommendations on changing the gender on my passport, they won't let me change my spanish papers unless i change the irish ones first.

much love <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 ~~~~~~~ beni
