Other! Now accepting moderator pitches

I took over this subreddit when it was dead. I tried adding live race threads and flairs and such and it remained dead. I don't have any inspiration to fix it, so I figured I should really take community feedback. If you have a pitch to bring the sub to life, let me know. And if you wanna become a moderator to implement that, let me know as well.

I want to build a decent community, but unfortunately I didn't have the userbase to build off of like my r/Supercross endeavor nor is there much overlap so there's not an opportunity to promote cross pollination like my next endeavor I'm gonna make a move for will have. So I'm open to any and all suggestions.

What happened to the Trans Am Series?

I’ve heard many people say how the series isn’t as popular as it used to be, but I can’t really find clear reasons as to why that is. Maybe someone who knows more can help. To be clear I’m not trying to hate as I watch Trans Am races pretty regularly and it’s a fun series, but many say that it isn’t what it used to be.

Back in the 80s and 90s, Trans Am had huge manufacturer support, was on network TV, had big sponsorship money and had elite drivers. Obviously there’s still driver talent but what made sponsors/OEMs/TV migrate away from the series? Was it just changing interests to other motorsports, cost cutting, or something else?

Other! Help on explaining series?

I'm coming from F1 and DTM.

I'm trying to watch the 2023 series before starting the 2024 just to get affiliated with everything.

I'm a bit confused when I'm watching the whole 2023 playlist on youtube. There's the TransAm TA/XGT/SGT/GT race, and then the Big Machine Vodka Spiked Coolers TA2. What exactly is that and the difference between them? Is it similar to F1 and the other being F2? Or are both of equal levels?

Actual Trans Am Cars On Grid ??

Having watched Trans Am for past 18 Months one thing I've noticed is the distinct lack of fully Trans Am cars. Not trying dish any dirt on the GT3 cars in the field but are they just there to fill a grid that would otherwise only consist of 10 cars at most?

In UK we had a similar situation in BTCC in early 2000s, Where they had to introduce other classes of cars to fill grids. In end I believe cost cutting measures were brought in and most teams joined and single class Touring car racing returned.

Is Trans Am in trouble? Are they struggling to get teams to join?

I watch TA2 more and feel this could one day become the full default Trans Am series as there grids seem healthy

Other! My 2024 Wishlist

Here is my wish list for the 2024 season and beyond (specifically for race coverage)

  1. Less onboards & More Track-side cameras. Onboards used to be cool but when you go onboard multiple times over the course of the race, it gets boring. It happens many times in one lap and sometimes it's only for 3-5 seconds. At tracks like Road America, my home track, they go onboard way too much and there are not enough trackside cameras.
  2. Less talking during the broadcast/ periods of silence. The reason I watch the series is because the cars sound so damn good (Chris Dyson's Mustang to be specific) but the commentators talk too much. I get that it's their job, but we need something like NASCAR with the "Crank it Up" periods. I think we also need full race broadcasts with ZERO commentary whatsoever. Just pure noise.

News Looking way ahead to '24...

I read Racer.com and Twitter and have an account at Tentenths. Seems so quiet on the Trans Am front. Even Wikipedia doesn't have pages for '22 and '23, much less '24. Any big changes ahead? Will EVs quickly be a thing? Will more bodystyles be accepted in the TA classes, since Dodge stopped producing a couple of its cars? Camaro's on the way out. EV technology in general seems on the way in.

As I've said before, I'd love to see T1 and T2 run together, and GT be consolidated into one class running a separate race. There don't need to be 3 GT classes.

Also, I've never liked the current points system. I like smaller numbers, like, maybe 25 for the winner, and points only 10-15 deep. And whatever the winner gets (111? 113?) should be rounded to something ending in 5 or 0. It's just neater.

Regardless, I wish this series well. The schedule is actually up, I forgot. It is here:

https://gotransam.com/events/2024-Trans-Am-National-Championship/cat/538

February 22-25 – Sebring International Raceway (Sebring, Fla.)
March 21-24 – Road Atlanta (Braselton, Ga.)
April 11-14 – NOLA Motorsports Park (Avondale, La.)
May 10-11 – World Wide Technology Raceway, TA2 Only (Madison, Ill.)
May 24-27 – Lime Rock Park (Lakeville, Conn.)
June 7-9 – Pittsburgh International Race Complex, TA/XGT/SGT/GT Only (Wampum, Pa.)
June 20-23 – Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (Lexington, Ohio)
June 28-30 – Road America (Plymouth, Wis.)
August 21-25 – Watkins Glen International (Watkins Glen, N.Y.)
Aug. 29-Sept. 1 – Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (Bowmanville, Ontario)
October 3-6 – VIRginia International Raceway (Alton, Va.)
Oct. 31-Nov. 3 – Circuit of The Americas (Austin, Texas)

Back to Western PA and CTMP.

TA1,TA2,SGT all racing together from Gateway (WWT Raceway) earlier today. Supposedly there wasn’t enough cars to race in their own separate classes, from what I heard was for safety reasons some because points don’t matter for them anymore.

Trans Am event at Road America

Hello there, I'm planning to go to my first ever Trans Am race weekend at Road America this summer. My main question is what the weekend schedule is usually like, I don't see anything posted on RA's website or on TA's website. Also any tips for a first-time fan at the track would be much appreciated.
