Lateralus Interesting fact
Just curious how many of you knew the sound at the beginning of The Grudge is from an episode of Star Trek The Next Generation called The Offspring. It’s from the lift that Data’s “daughter” Lal is on.
I was like, “I know that sound!”
Check it out.

Did you know that all the vocals on Mantra are provided by Maynard... squeezing a cat?

Pretty sure the same effect is used in the first Die Hard movie too when he's calling the elevator. It's a bunch of places.

Always reminded me of the CD starting up. Tool has a sample on track one of every album. Thats coo too

Also it sounds like a few older machines we have at work that make a similar sound when they start up

I know I heard that sound in a movie where they were adjusting those giant satellite dishes or the giant observatory door was opening up for a telescope. I just can’t remember which movie and it’s driving me crazy!

Interesting. I didn’t know it was so prevalent. I’ll be looking for it everywhere now lol. That Star Trek episode is the only place I’ve heard it.

Same with the stock baby cry at the beginning of Cesaro Summability (track before Aenima), I hear it everywhere!

Its stock sound that a lot of audio makers/tv sound guys/musicians have access to. It’s like a stock photo you can buy licenses for and use for whatever
It didn’t “come from Star Trek” it’s just Tool and Star Trek used the same pre-made sound effect
