Society/Culture Sometimes I like tooth pain
I don’t mean tooth pain from a cavity (I’ve never experienced that but I can tell it absolutely sucks), but I remember when I was younger and had loose baby teeth I liked pushing on them even though it hurt. Like it hurt but it felt good. Same with today when I was getting a shot around the roof of my mouth to numb me for wisdom tooth removal it honestly felt kind of a good and I know that sounds weird which is why it’s getting posted on here. And no i do NOT have a pain kink. i think maybe it’s almost similar to how pressing on a bruise or sore spot can feel good ?

It's not even a 10th dentist opinion, it's just you having a weird relationship with your pain receptors. I remember the syringe shot in the gums for anesthesia being tickling in the worst way imaginable. Painful tickle where every inch of my body wants to twitch for a second.

I definitely remember pushing on loose teeth and it feeling good.
As for stuff nowadays... I'll pass. Never gotten my wisdom teeth taken out thankfully. I have had fillings done.... Some of them sucked a lot. Especially the one time they drilled into a nerve...

I get it when it comes to the pushing on loose baby teeth.
Not the injection though, bollocks to that.

You aren't the only one who feels that way. I've seen a few posts on it in the past, and I am sort of in agreement. sometimes, gum pain is almost satisfying. pulling teeth, accidentally flossing to hard after not flossing for a couple days, etc. I don't think I would actually go out of my way to cause pain, though. I've looked it up in the past and their are dozens of quora questions asking about gum pain/pleasure. Something about releasing endorphins or something.

Is it really that bad? I’m 17 and getting braces soon lol so

It hurts for a couple days every time you get your wires tightened. It's not fun, but it's manageable with over the counter pain meds

The pain itself sucks to the point u cant eat any food that u need to bite till it wears off ( technically you can but it will be very painful)so prepare yourself or just take pills for no pain, however the pain is only when the orthodontist changes the wire and its only for less than a week im pretty sure

It's bad for the first 2-3 days; after a week, you don't feel pain. I recently got braces a month ago and I'm 18.

I didn’t mind it too bad when I had mine on. Pain only lasted like a day and I didn’t need any meds for it that I can recall, maybe some children’s Advil but I don’t think I even used that every adjustment time. The real trouble was the wires against my gums. I was really bad at applying the wax, it was more annoying to me than the pain of the wires against my gums and I still have long scars along my the insides of my cheeks from the wires repeatedly cutting them and I got my braces off 5ish years ago, they’re getting less raised these days so that’s good though. But the pain of adjustments wasn’t too bad and evidently even the wire wasn’t bad enough pain to get me to use my wax more than once lol.

I was the exact same everytime I had a loose tooth. The shot is crazy though

You're not the tenth dentist, you're the future patient every dentist dreams about. Lol

It's a different kind of pain - it's impacting your "feel stuff" nerves more than your "this is a bad thing" nerves. Take your fingernail and (gently) shove it into your gum line right before it ends at a tooth, but between two teeth (like, between your two front teeth on the top, right above where the gum ends). Push in a bit. You'll find that if you go slowly you can probably push as hard as you want, but you won't get a "oh fuck this" reaction unless you actually break the surface and start to bleed. For some people it can even be oddly... I don't want to say "pleasurable" but more "interesting" or just "acceptable".

I kind of agree with this. I have a tooth that occasionally hurts when I chew and I hate that, but pushing on my loose teeth as a kid was a weirdly pleasant pain.

I know what you mean for sure. I had to get a deep clean last month and I knew I wasn’t numb enough but I didn’t say anything because it kinda felt good at times.
