Experience with Non-stop Rock Long harness?

In the market for a new harness and torn between Non-stop Dogwear's Rock Long and Line Long. I settled on those 2 because of the handle and figured the long versions would distribute the load better. Currently using the Line 5.0 which I like for the reflective details and front clip when not running (frustrated greeter, so it's nice to have when she's overstimulated).

I like that the Rock Long also has a front clip and reflective piping, and it's advertised as multi-purpose, but it seems like a lot of harness. Anyone have experience with it for running/hiking/everyday walks?

More about my dog:

  • ACD/GSD/husky/crazy mix, ~23 kg
  • Inconsistent puller, mainly right out the gate, then she stays slightly in front or at my side the rest of the way

Italian Spinone

Hey, just found this sub and wondered if anyone here jogged with their Italian spinone?

I have a 5 year old that I do 10 miles a week with. The longest we've ever done has been 3 miles together. Love the breed as a jogging companion.

Getting started

I have a field English springer spaniel that’s 7 months old. He’s a very high energy bird dog. Hunting season is winding down so I would like to start introducing him to running with me to keep him in shape and to expel some of his energy. I just got a ruffwear harness and a running leash. But I want to know how best to start out. I know he can run for awhile but I also know that it’s best to work up to stuff. How should I start out with him?

Running in slush/muck

Now that there's snow and slush on the ground again consistently, I'm getting tired of washing/rinsing my running partner after every run. His legs and chest/stomach are coated in sand and dirt when we get home. Has anyone used the Non Stop Dog Wear Protector Snow jacket? Its intended use is to keep snow from matting into their fur, but I'm thinking that it could also work well to keep him clean on runs. My only real concern is if it adds too much insulation that he overheats. It would be used most when it's right around (or slightly above) freezing as that's when the slush is the worst.

If anyone has an alternative suggestion that would be great too. Thanks.

Corgi?

Just lost my partner in crime a few days ago. We ran together for 8 years. He was a damn fine dog and I’ve never known a better friend. My wife is looking to get a corgi rescue in the next few months. Do they make decent running companions?

Shoutout for a Very Good Boy (take 2…)

Reposted because I left my phone number visible on the original post - thanks to the user who gave me a heads up 😳

Anyway, this is STILL the best boy, who stayed with me yesterday after I sprained my ankle at a canicross club run! He bobbled back to the car with me when everyone else had gone on, and even when we met some of them on their return leg, he wouldn’t leave me to go with them (they offered to take him so I could hobble easier). Then he stayed on the sofa with me most of the day, and brought me his toys when walking on it was so painful it made me cry.

He is a Fine Boy.

I ordered two harnesses from nonstop (rush harness and line harness).

I'm planning to use the rush harness to run with my dog and the line harness for hiking and everyday walks.

What do you think about the fit?

My 4 year old German Shepard can’t run anymore:(

My 4 year old German Shepard can’t run anymore nor can she jump high up into my jeep like she used to. She keeping pressure off her right side paw. When I throw the ball she runs with her foot off to the side. I had x rays done and he saw good hips, but some bony spine growths and arthritis of the spine and knees. But he says he can’t explain the lame walk? I’m really worried about her… She was rxd gabapentin and nsaids. Thank you in advance-

Looking to place our dog into a running home

Meet Roger, a very good four-year old boy who I adopted in Miami as a shelter puppy. He is very well trained and absolutely loves running - both off and on leash. At our peak, he and I ran 13 miles on any given day, or 30 miles in a week. Equally, he is a happy guy lounging on the couch all day: basically he matches your energy!

Given certain circumstances that I’ll share over DM I am in the very unfortunate situation of needing to find a new owner for him and would love for that to be with a runner.

We are based in Miami. Roger is neutered with no history of health issues.

Please let me know if you are interested in learning more, and please be kind - this is very sad for my family :(

Resources for readiness?

Post image
23 Upvotes

This is Mabel. We just adopted her last week. She’s 6m, 44lbs, and breed is unknown. The vet gave us clearance to run with her when I asked would be a good time to start with her, but she said that as she’s not a runner, I could trust my best judgement. I’ve always heard wait at least until 1 year old to start. What evidence-based resources did you use to determine readiness to start?

Poo pick-up karma

There's some posts in another sub about people not picking up poo, and I wanted to share a practice I've been following the last few years: Poo pick up pay it forward. I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of this, but just want to share with a wider audience.

Like most folks on this sub, I try to be a good dog-running citizen: I keep my dog on leash where required, I carry poop bags, and I pick up after my dog. But let's be honest -- sometimes you forget your bags, or your dog poops and you can't find it, or you forget to grab the bag again on your way out, or your dog poops while off-leash and you don't see it.

You can't always fix these mistakes, but you can build poo pick-up karma!

  • When you're picking up your dog's poop and you see someone else's, grab it in your bag.
  • If you noticed someone else's poop bag by the side of the trail and it's still there on your way back, carry it out to the garbage can.
  • If the poop bag holder is empty, stick your extras in it.
  • If you're walking back to the trailhead and see someone picking up their dog's poop, offer to carry it out for them.
  • Carry extra bags in case someone needs one.

It takes a village of poo-picker-upers! What other ways can we build poo pick-up karma?

Edit: formatting.

Line Harness Fit

Line Harness fit check. More for everyday, but might end up pulling. V is just above breast bone which makes me think we need to size up so it's not into her trachea. I worry sizing up might end up too big. Thoughts? Size 5 currently.

ISO - Recommendations for Winter /Cold Weather Pants

Hi Everyone!

I've got into a very good habit the last 6 months or so of taking my doggo for walks after I get the kids to bed. As the weather has been getting colder, so have I. I've got a nice ski jacket, balaclava, hat, boots, wool socks and mittens, but basically am just wearing jeans below the waist, which get chilly. I simply don't tolerate the cold very well (I keep my home office at about 80 all year).

Does anybody have recommendations for pants I can wear that stand up to snow, wind, and sub-zero temps?

(Edit - Men's pants 🤗)

I need some help here as I have choice paralysis with all the crap on Amazon.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. - My doggo is a great pyrenees mix and loves the cold. He'll sit in our yard and keep watch for hours on the snow.

New to this, advice and equipment suggestions?

Hello! My lab is almost 2 years old and we would go on long walks during the summer. Daily it was between 1-4mi depending on how we were feeling. However I’m not built for the cold and she is, so I’m struggling to tire her out. I saw someone jogging with their dog today and thought this would be great for her. It would also be good for me because I need to build up my cardio and running will keep me warmer in this cold weather. We are both athletic but don’t run a lot so I would say we are both starting at the same place and will slowly build up to long distance jogging.

She is decent on leash, I have a bungee leash that attaches to my waist, and some harnesses. The one I typically use for her is the Ruffwear Hi & Light harness but I will say she HATES harnesses. I’ve tried other harnesses, freedom no pull harness, Arcadia trail harness, and now this one. She doesn’t like to feel restricted so I’ve played around with how tight it should. I’ve tried tightening them so they don’t slide around and loosening them so they don’t feel too constricted but no matter what she just dislikes them. Once we are outside and moving we are good but she throws a huge fit during the putting it on process and looks like a dog on an ASPCA commercial when I put them on. Now I usually just use a collar because she likes that but if I’m running I don’t want to use a collar. I’ve tried treats and making it a positive experience, she is just a very dramatic dog. So maybe advice there would be nice or if anyone has a dog similar, is there a harness they did like?

The second photo is after I get the harness on her and her world has ended.

Carrying water for my dog

Hey guys

I'm planning to start running with my mutt and as I started to look for caniX gear I started thinking about how I'll be carrying his water.

Is a small backpack a good solution? How do you do it?

I'm buying the caniX belt 2.0 from nonstop, in case that's relevant

Experiences with 3 Peaks harnesses?

Heya!

My wife is looking to start running more with our dog - 24kg working bred Labrador - but we’ve had issues with her Halti harness rubbing previously.

The 3 Peaks brand (Pets at Home own brand) seems to offer good value compared to RuffWear and the likes.

https://www.petsathome.com/product/3-peaks-sierra-dog-harness-green/P71767

https://www.petsathome.com/product/3-peaks-running-dog-lead-green-large/7150099P

Does anyone have any experiences with them? Or any experts here who can look and see if it seems suitable? Most runs will be 3-6km, never longer than 10K.

Many thanks in advance! 😄
