I wish Netanyahu hadn’t escalated, but this comment treats Israelis as the only actors with moral agency. It turns out that Hezbollah and Iran are also full of rational people who bear moral blame too.
I mean on the one side we have Israel: genocide in Gaza, ramping up attacks & settlements in West Bank, terror attack in Lebanon, bombing Lebanon, bombing Syria, bombing Yemen, invading Lebanon.
Iran: a ceremonial retaliation & a promise that further escalation will force them to show they have missiles that can get through, which they then follow through on.
I think this response proves my point. You see no moral agency in Hamas or Hezbollah or Iran. Israel is accountable for all its action; these other actors are accountable for none.
That moment when you have the moral blame on the same level as a country committing genocide with the direct support of the most powerful military of all time.
If Iran had the capability and means of committing genocide against Israel they absolutely would and have stated as much. The complete annihilation of Israel has been the Iranian Shia Clergy’s stated core objective for decades. US support of Israel acts as a deterrent to this objective. Wouldn’t expect TikTok or publicfreakout comment section to explain that to you though as I’m sure that’s where you get most of your info about Israel from
I never said that it did. I was providing a response explaining one of the primary reasons why the US supports Israel so vehemently despite the atrocities of the IDF. Iran will exterminate Israel if they don’t have US support. They are attempting to do so even with Israel currently having US support. Israel not having US support would give Iran the green light to attempt to completely wipe Israel off the map, as it is again the primary stated objective of their regime. The ayatollah has stated that this is their goal many times.
Israel has made it's position on Islam and its neighbors pretty clear.
If I were Israel, maybe I wouldn't intentionally try to antagonize all my neighbors when a foreign power an ocean away is the only reason I exist in the first place.
At what point are countries around Israel allowed to take action? Genuinely curious what people think the line is if it isn't blatant invasion of their neighbors.
I love how you avoid the actual incongruence between Israel and its neighbors.
At what point are Israel's neighbors allowed to respond to settler expansionism? At what point did European and American powers prop up Islam in the Middle East out of nowhere?
Fun fact: During the Iran-Iraq War, Iran sent their own schoolchildren to clear out minefields and bound them with ropes to each other so they wouldn’t run away.
Iran said at the UN yesterday it two days ago that Hamas and all Arab states will guarantee safety for Israel if they leave Palestine be. Israel said fuck you we're going to invade Lebanon. So....
Meanwhile the IOF has killed 15,000 Palestinian children as of June 2024...
"Nearly 15,000 other children in Gaza have been killed since the war began on Oct. 7, 2023, according to the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights."
oh its absolutely true that kids younger than 12 are dying. but unfortunately, Hamas is committed to maximizing casualty counts, specifically to engender emotional responses from westerners who cant fathom context or nuance
""Out of those, then out of that smaller number, that subset of identified bodies, you have 7,797 children, 4,959 women, 1,924 elderly and 10,006 men.
""Meanwhile, as you can see, if you do the math, that there's about another 10,000-plus bodies who still have to be fully identified."
"The number of deaths in Gaza reported by the U.N. has not been halved."
Not doubled like you claim.
New figures, that broke down the number of fully identified and documented deaths, were published by the U.N. on May 8 along with the number of reported fatalities from the Ministry of Health in Gaza, whose figures the U.N. says are proven to be "generally accurate."
"The smaller number of fully identified deaths was thought by some to mean the total figure had been revised, in some cases by half, which the U.N. has denied and clarified."
Nice try though, try again.
but lets just say for the sake of argument... would 7,797 dead children be ok with you?
The slogan of the Houthi movement, a Shia Islamist political and military organization in Yemen, reads “God Is the Greatest, Death to America, Death to Israel, A Curse Upon the Jews, Victory to Islam”
As a jew, I'd rather not take the blame for between 8 thousand to 15 thousand children being killed by bombings. I'd rather blame a government, like Israel's
There’s a significant discrepancy in how international condemnation is applied to different countries, but it's important to understand that this is likely not due to antisemitism.
"There's a massive discrepancy between calls for Israel to be punished vs calls for Russia, Iran, DPRK, Sudan, etc to be punished."
While Russia, Iran, and North Korea (DPRK) have long been under scrutiny and subject to heavy sanctions, Israel has historically enjoyed strong backing from the international community, particularly from countries like the United States and various Western nations. Since its establishment in 1948, Israel has received considerable diplomatic and military support, which has often shielded it from the level of international condemnation applied to other states, even during times of conflict
However, there is definitely a selective bias when it comes to how these situations are handled.
"Selective bias at play here."
This bias can stem from geopolitical alliances and interests. For instance, Sudan (specifically, South Sudan) is the world’s youngest country, having gained independence in 2011, and its complex internal conflicts haven’t garnered as much sustained international attention compared to Israel or Russia. North Korea has long been considered a pariah state and faces extensive international sanctions, but it’s less involved in the broader regional dynamics that make Israel’s actions a global focal point.
Israel, on the other hand, has been in conflict with its neighbors since its establishment in 1948. Over the decades, while Israel has sometimes acted as the instigator or aggressor in these conflicts, it has received considerable support from the international community, particularly from countries like the United States and various Western powers. This backing has often insulated Israel from the kind of widespread sanctions or consequences that are applied to other states.
Recently, however, international criticism of Israel has grown, especially concerning its policies towards the Palestinians and its continued occupation of the West Bank and the blockade of Gaza. Organizations like the United Nations, as well as various human rights groups, have increasingly called for accountability and condemned Israeli actions, but Israel continues to receive substantial diplomatic and military support from key allies.
Israel has caused significantly more civilian death, including children, than their enemies. Saying "both sides suck" obfuscates the scale of their crimes.
I am not defending Iran or "blaming the jews" (wtf). Your comment was specifically highlighting a Hezbollah attack as if it was justification for Israel's war behaviour, as if Israel has not done a hundred times worse in this very conflict.
Wild how short spanned the til-tok-brained’s attentions spans are these days. Did people already forget the first barrage of Iranian rockets months ago… or was Israel supposed to let them hit just to prove a point of the severity of the attack?
Are Hamas and Hezbollah not direct iranian proxies used exclusively by Iran to carry out constant attacks on Israel?
Strange logic happening in bizzarro world over here.

Shame on Netanyahu and his constant escalation.
