Discussion Nina Turner is running for representative of Ohio’s 11th district on a platform that helps secure social, racial, economic, health care and environmental justice for all of us

Nina is a progressive candidate running for representative in Ohio’s 11th district.

Her platform is meant to secure social, racial, economic, healthcare, and environmental justice for all of us. She supports Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, free public college and cancelling student debt, increasing the minimum wage, and she takes no corporate money.

Turner made history in 2005 as the first African American woman to represent ward one on the Cleveland City Council, and again in 2008 as the first woman to serve as a state senator in Ohio’s 25th District. She led the effort to create Ohio’s first task force on police and community relations in the wake of tragic police killings in Ohio and across the country.

In 2016 she was a national surrogate for Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign. In 2020, she was the national co-chair for Bernie’s campaign.

You can find more information about Nina Turner and her campaign at her website. You can also volunteer to help her campaign by doing things like phone banking or text banking, or you can donate to her campaign if you would prefer to support Nina in that way.

Nina can be followed at the following social media accounts:

We hope you decide to help out the campaign in any way possible. If you can’t, we hope that, above all, you stay safe and healthy.

Discussion Anyone looking to join an organization that advocates for progressive candidates and policies should join Done Waiting

Done Waiting is a progressive group that endorses and advocates for progressive candidates and policies all around the country.

The application can be filled out at this link and it takes about 30 seconds to complete.

When you apply, you can choose to volunteer for 4-6 or 8-12 hours each week.. We are a completely volunteer-run organization, so all positions are unpaid. Because of this, we try and keep our hours flexible.

Much of what you would be doing would be voter outreach, usually through phone banking. There is also a weekly mandatory meeting on Wednesdays at 9 pm EST. The availability of leadership opportunities in the organization can vary, as our need for more positions increases as we grow. Leadership positions could include managing social media accounts, leading phone bank shifts, helping create graphics, and more.

Any work you would be doing would be completely remote, and we accept people from any location.

If you would like to be a part of an organization advocating for progressive values, while also learning how to organize and lead or manage teams, apply to Done Waiting. You can meet hundreds of other young, like-minded progressives from all over the country. In addition to our organizing, we also have an org-wide book club and policy discussions that any members can participate in if they want. Letters of Recommendation will be provided for strong performance in the organization.

You can learn more about us and our values here.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Before all the, "he's not running" comments: It is DRAFT campaign and he is listening! He's our last, best chance to get Bernie's policies into the White House!!

Discussion Voting Progressive Today

Hopefully you are considering voting for Dennis Kucinich/Tara Samples today - a governor who stands for Medicare for All, a fracking ban, and an assault weapons ban would catapult Ohio into the Progressive conversation.

Discussion Can somebody in Tim Ryan's district write to him about all his progressive stances?

https://timryanforms.house.gov/contact/

Hi Tim,

I'm sharing the news with everybody in my network of all the great progressive stances you're taking. The Medicare For All Caucus. THANK YOU! The push to legalize marijuana. THANK YOU!

So why am I now seeing you quoted as saying "You're not going to make me hate somebody just because they're rich. I want to be rich!"

We don't hate rich people. That is not what a progressive tax policy is about. A progressive tax pays for Medicare For All, and expanded education, and investments in renewable energy.

We don't hate rich people. We like keeping tabs on our favorite celebrities. We like that they lead rich lives. With higher taxes on the very rich, they'll still have more than enough money to be able to take any vacation they want, get a new car whenever needed, and send their kid to any private school they wish. Working class Americans *still* wouldn't be able to take vacations, still would have no option for their children other than public schools, and still will have to make due with patching up a broken down car, but they'll at least be able to go to a doctor and maybe struggle just a bit less to put food on the table.

The very rich get more out of the tax money than regular working Americans. Public education for their future employees and their customers. Roads and airways to deliver their products. Research leading to the likes of the internet which allow them to grow and market their services.

The American taxpayer bailed out the auto industry, bailed out Wall Street, and took the pains of the housing market crash caused by the fraud of wealthy executives. It's time for the millionaires and billionaires to invest in our country, to invest in the American people. There is nothing more patriotic than investing in the health and education of our nation.
