Opinion Is RE8 worth a new purchase for VR?
I played through it a little over a year ago on Xbox and loved it. I'd have to buy it again on PS for the VR mode, but skeptical. Is it much better than flat screen?
I did live RE7 in VR but it was years ago and it was good but it's PSVR1 so it had its limitations

Yes, it's one of the best VR experiences you can have on PSVR2.
It's not even comparable to playing on screen, it's a completely different experience. You won't want to play horror games without VR ever again.
Compared to RE7 on PSVR1 it's about a 2 generational leap. Double the resolution, excellent HDR, full VR motion controls, VR cut scenes, many more possible tactics. (Knife throwing, bayonet plus shotgun, shooting through cracks, around corners)

Re7 made a bigger impression on me on psvr1 but imo re8 is in the top 5 VR games of all time.
Capcom does a good job of making things intuitive and not trying to do too much in vr (that for me can break immersion)
Alyx is fantastic but almost every time I had to work with the physics it did break the immersion (especially doors). Don't get me wrong I'm glad it has the physics and it's fun, but re7 played with a dual shock never broke my immersion as it was so intuitive, despite being less real.
That doesn't mean re7 is superior but oddly it is one reason re7 remains equal to alyx in my overall love and enjoyment of playing it.

Really? The doors in hl alyx were awesome to me and the opposite of immersion breaking, the way you could grab a door handle, and open the door slowly in a controlled manner was awesome and realistic to me. I'd often open the door just a crack to peak in, something you don't find in a lot of other games. I'd also hold the door open a crack with one hand, stick my gun hand in and fire into the room for fun sometimes.

Yeah I just got Village and while I’m having a blast, some things are a bit wonky like opening doors or drawers. They just don’t open that smoothly and things in general are not that much interactive. But I understand that this isn’t a from the ground up VR game.

Playing it right now and it's amazing, absolutely worth the replay. I don't play RE games really, my fiance loves them and likes watching me play them and I didn't really make it very far in RE8 the first time, just got bored and stopped playing.
Got my VR headset and have had a blast with it, making it much further than the first time I tried. The gunplay in VR is tons of fun, nothing like having to actually do the motions to reload your weapons mid fight. Also another fun mechanic is the knife! You have unlimited knives and can actually throw them in the VR. Made it through the whole first part of the game just by chucking knives at anything and everything to the point I had a huge amount of ammo going into the swamps because I just threw knives like a ninja all game.

That's good to know. It sounds fun too

Chapter 2 is traumatizing as well. Nothing can prepare you for that house in VR. I never made it that far in my flat-screen run but I feel like that would be an absolute cake walk compared to what I went through in VR

Geez I haven’t gotten to that part yet in VR but have done it flat screen. Can’t imagine having a first experiencing there through VR. Flat is nothing compared to VR

Yeah, I don't scream a lot during horror games, but I won't lie. I screamed pretty loud when I first came face to face with that thing.

It's worth it. I bought PSVR2 specifically for Village. It's easily one of the best VR games on the market.

Yes and Res 4 too

I finished Res 4 recently so I'll pass on that for now. Will look in a few months if it goes on sale again.

The Heisenberg factory is the single greatest thing I have seen in VR, Beats Alyx and Modded Skyrim. Whether it’s the OLED and colours making it pop, or the depth and scale of it, Seeing the machines in the background on the conveyor belt. It just was simply incredible, Worth it for that alone.

For those that have tried it, how do you not get too scared? Serious question, I would think the pants shit factor would go up x10

Perhaps?
This is a hard question IMO, but I’m not going to lie to you OP.
You are NOT going to have the same experience I did. I purposely waited till the PSVR2 release to play it for the first time… Hindsight is a REAL thing that makes your 2nd run in most horror games Not as fun, be it flat or in VR.
Yes it’s fun, but again, you will not have the same experience as those that played it in VR first.

Yes. I played it when it first came out through the whole story. But being immersed in it is a whole new experience. :-)

OP
I don’t nor ever cared for the thriller horror genre
I would say for the most part I still don’t
But RE8 is entirely worth it for VR. I played RE7,8,&4 in VR and loved them. Every dev that makes a VR game should make the RE VR versions a minimal benchmark for what decent VR is.
Now I’m playing Madison in VR. I love/hate it.

Thanks for that, I bought it after the replies. Madison is another that looks good

RE8 is usually on sale so I'm gonna say yes.
I was on the same boat as you. Played the game on Xbox and debated buying it for PSVR. Ended up getting it, the game looks and feels great in VR but I ended up dropping it fairly quickly. It just doesn't have the same replayability as Re4 to me. Since I already played RE8 I just wanted to shoot some zombies and do less of the survival horror stuff. The limited ammo made it a chore for me.

Absolutely! Even as someone who was a little disappointed with RE8 on flatscreen, playing in VR was fantastic. Still not close to my favourite RE game, but one of my favourite VR experiences.

if u get re8 and re4 and gt7 then the whole psvr2 purchase i worth it for just these 3 games alone, they are .... lifechanging games, doesn't happen a lot, especially in this awful gen of gaming where nothing groundbreaking happened, other than psvr2 doing what i only dreamed off as a kid.

Resident Evil games in VR are simply top tier gaming experiences. 7 and 8 have both just blown me away. One game alone is never worth an entire console or headset, though. Luckily there are plenty of amazing games on the PSVR2 and it is well worth the price.

Yes. For the billionth time this month. YES! Can’t you guys just type in the name of the game on the search bar of the sub? Come on

u/Always-stressed-out 22h ago
Sorry buddy, didn't mean to upset you. Made an account here a few years ago, but only just started using this site. Still figuring things out

u/DeliriousTrigger 18h ago
Oh, man! I wasn’t upset, haha! I was just being an ass. I should’ve taken that stuff into consideration before literally taking time out of my day to be a prick. I’m sorry. Enjou!

No. They cannot

u/DeliriousTrigger 22h ago
Sure. Sure they can. Absolutely! Even easier than typing out all this stuff out for people to read the same thing over and over
