Only downside is it means I need to flip through literally every multi when I reroll now :/

Wonder if that was intentional on Bandai's part?

Doubt it. Klab had this idea already with Captain Tsubasa's gacha game, where during the multi (shooting 10 balls at the goalkeeper), the color of each ball shows the rarity of the character (like our color of the poster falling down), but while they fly, there's a chance that a ball turns into a rainbow (highest rarity), adding a nice suprise. It litterally adds more suspence to the pulls for normal people. Rerollers having to check is a side-effect.
