This is probably the most "0 to 100" arc ever since Sabaody.

Started with us hanging out at Vegapunk's island, having fun with the technology and such. A little under 40 chapters later, Luffy is face to face with all 5 Gorosei.

Except in Sabody, Luffy and the crew were helpless. But this time, even facing the top monsters of this world, Luffy and co. are putting up a good fight.

Yeah, imo this is definitely meant to be a parallel to Sabaody.

Hopefully the ending will be an even bigger HOLY FUCK moment, but not as sad.

Kuma - with the last of his strength - sends all the strawhats in their ship to elbaf to help them escape the gorosei

13

u/flash-tractor Soul King Brook Mar 15 '24

A lot of us are guessing this will be how Egghead ends. I, for one, am not ready to say goodbye to Best Dad.

Given his motivation to protect Bonnie, I could see this once every one is on the ship. My head cannon is that her necklace is what is transmiting the message so it will get delivered once they fly away in kumas bubble

luffy putting a good fight, and co. are ordered by the left hand to run and escape cus they have no chance

Zoro might be capable to hold one off. He'll just need Sanji to egg him on.

At least he beat the allegations of having trouble playing with Hattori's kitty.

Plus, this time they got help and the plan was to run away from the start.

u/wannabetrapstar888 Mar 16 '24

bro u saw how quick nusjuro disarmed the pacifistas? zoro's got no chance against him now. because even though he has speed, his weak point is his observation haki without which he's open prey to nusjuro

2

u/thedrq Mar 16 '24

How much stronger are these new pacifistas than the old ones? Since Zoro one shotted that one during saboadi

3

u/wannabetrapstar888 Mar 17 '24

they got the bubble shields and are quicker according to the vegapunks. also when did zoro one shot a pacifista? luffy did, and the next one zoro and sanji did

2

u/thedrq Mar 17 '24

I mean I am confident they both could have one shotted the pacifistas of the other did not jump in

u/Environmental-Let639 Mar 16 '24

Yep, in Sabaody, Rayleight and Kuma had to show up to save the Straw Hats, now is the rest of the Gorousei that had to show up to save Kizaru and Saturn.

kizaru might be my fav admiral, but you cant imagine the satisfaction I got of luffy sitting him down everytime he got infront of him.

They are running for their lives and main VP got killed. Barely a pass performance.

From having fun, eating burgers and shit

To having amogus reference mini-arc

To seeing events escalate outside Egghead

To witnessing Kuma's suffering

And then we're now seeing Gorosei's true form lol its crazy

u/Worthyness Mar 15 '24

and giant ancient gear golem hasn't even shown up yet

6

u/GaleErick Mar 16 '24

Still waiting for the golem to pay off.

Seriously it's revival has been teased chapters ago yet we got more unexpected parties popping in in the meantime (Giants, Blackbeard's Crew, all of the Gorosei).

8

u/Obvious_Law7599 Void Month Survivor Mar 16 '24

The giants were the biggest surprise, honestly. They know Luffy, they know Nika, and probably what the Elders as as well, seeing how they didn't hesitate to decapitate one.

The assassin among us trope wasn't invented by AMOGUS tbf

It's York being a traitor, the one who caused the Seraphims to wreak havoc.

31

u/radikraze Pirate Mar 15 '24

The best part is it doesn’t feel like it was rushed. Other series do shit like this out of nowhere and throw pacing out of the window but this insane escalation feels completely organic to me

24

u/LeKartoffel_ Mar 15 '24

That's a great point despite how quickly things have escalated it has never felt like it escalated because that's what Oda wanted but rather it makes sense for Saturn to go "This shit needs to stop, I'll summon the rest to get this over with". And that is just great and I love it

11

u/jimgae Jinbe The Knight of the Sea Mar 15 '24

Yeah the pacing of this arc is incredible. Big reason why this is currently an S-tier arc for me.

4

u/Darth-Occlus Mar 16 '24

I think what really makes the escalation feel so natural is that every new thing that happens almost is incidental to Luffy. The story never feels like oh NEW VILLAIN TO JUMP THE HERO.
CPO and Luffy were here to kill Vegapunk but then got captured triggering
Saturn and Kizaru to come, then Kuma being here is the result of Bonny. With Bonny revealing the failsafe in the Pacifistas setting off Saturn. Which led to Vega's dead man switch triggering. Putting the Gorosei on a time limit forcing the rest to join in.
Luffy and Co being here is almost incidental but their presence keeps the WG from accomplishing their mission hence the escalation of reveals that complicate their mission. All while Luffy's goal of stall and gtfo has remained shockingly simple.
This situation is a product of years of in-universe events not Oda throwing curve balls for the sake of shock. In fact the only domino he needed to set to cue everything else happening is have Saturn be present.

u/Leiatte Mar 16 '24

Oda generally doesn’t like to rush, not that anyone does but he takes his time. End of Wano was the only time I remember him rushing & I guess he felt he was writing the arc too long as it had been 4 years, could have used an extra year tbh…

I’m glad Oda’s back to not rushing though

u/Captain_D_Buggy Thriller Bark Victim's Association Mar 15 '24

So much packed up in this chapter. Zorro vs Lucci, Five elders arriving, luffy facing them, and then giants show up

6

u/II_Vortex_II Mar 15 '24

It went from fighting some cp0 and seraphims to all of the gorosei lmao

3

u/Unabashable Mar 15 '24

Hell he was in the face of one of them for at least a little bit.

4

u/CyclopicSerpent Void Month Survivor Mar 15 '24

Not even just facing all five gorosei but facing them alongside a reunited giant warrior pirates. I didn't even have Dorry and Broggy on my final war bingo card let alone something this early.

3

u/MettyXD Mar 15 '24

When watching the current episodes, no one would guess how everything will end up.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '24

It didn't even start at a 0. We started with a topless Bonnie (who we now know is 12. Thanks Oda) almost drowning and being saved by the strawhat, and then Lilith showed up and threatened to kill everyone. Then almost immediately Bonnie went off about her dad, we had a traitor, people died, and then the flashback.

This arc has been 100 to "the dial seems to be on fire."

2

u/Namisaur Mar 15 '24

To think we all thought this would be a transition arc. Happy times -> mild lore drops -> new mission -> go to Giants island...but no, instead this is a crazy full blown arc. Probably not on the length of Wano, but definitely way more impactful than a transitional arc

2

u/Nby333 Mar 16 '24

100 aint enough for Luffy anymore

1

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '24

Well fuck, guess I need to catch up on some dozens of chapters.
