this arc is pretty much best described as "well that escalated"

I swear I don't think i've seen anybody even joke abt Gorosei being fucking summoned to Egghead in person

u/Vangorf Mar 15 '24

Everyone was like okay Egghead is gonna be a chill transitional arc into Elbaf with some lore drops from Vegapunk, similar to what Zou was. Man we got baited hard

u/opkpopfanboyv3 Lurker Mar 15 '24

Thought abt that first too untiI fucking Saturn first appeared to be heading there lol

u/Vangorf Mar 15 '24

Yeah Lucci and CP0 being there as antagonists, maybe a small skirmish with Katarina Devon and Van Augur would serve as the combat section of the arc, instead its going ballistic

Oda is absolutely FLEXING on the manga world right now. Oda's in Gear 5th lolol

20

u/Unabashable Mar 15 '24

Didn’t even think anything about that until Saturn was revealed as some sort of shadow monster. Until then it was “So he can override control of the Seraphim and pacifistas. Damn. That sucks.”

7

u/Bossmann1017 Mar 15 '24

Imagine a transitional arc being better than the most hyped arc ...Wano😂

26

u/Zylgp Mar 15 '24

We expected Zou 2

Oda delivered Sabaody 2

20

u/Alphaeon_28 Mar 15 '24

Yeah this feels more like they’re trying to get out of a collapsing building

19

u/TheTomato2 Mar 15 '24

"Let's go, in and out, 20 minute adventure".

29

u/BarneyrealG Mar 15 '24

i genuinely thought it would just be the gang beating cp0 then going to elbaf, with elbaf neing the place where shit definitely goes down.

egghead really is a top 5 arc in one piece, specially coming raight after such a crazy arc such as wano.

oda did it again(and again).

7

u/Vangorf Mar 15 '24

Yeah, beating Cp0 with the rematch vs Lucci/Kaku + some light skirmish vs Blackbeard (Katarina Devon + Van Augur) looked fine with some lore drop from Vegapunk into full insanity Elbaf.

u/WayOfM Mar 16 '24

When the announcer said "This would soon be known as the egghead incident." I was just thinking "Oh okay so Luffy beats a Gorosei and claims egghead as part of his territory and that's just a huge stain on the WG's reputation because common people don't know of the Gorosei." Then Kuma's backstory happened. Then the giants showed up. Then Vegapunk died. And now all of the Gorosei are on the island and the world is about to learn the true history of the world. Nobody ever could have thought that it would soon turn to this.

Quick trip to Egghead. In and out, 20 minutes.

O_O

u/Inuma Pirate Mar 15 '24

Morj just put out a video talking about how the stakes escalate differently.

I certainly didn't know he could crank it like this...

u/MochiDragon88 Mar 16 '24

Eh, I feel that perspective should've changed once we found out that Saturn was heading towards the island, and the narrator hyping that things were about to go down. Granted, I don't think anyone was expecting anything like the 5 goroseis arriving at the scene, but a "big fight" should've been expected.

335

u/FireFistRJ Mar 15 '24

Seeing one of them fighting was scary; nobody imagined all five of them fighting together against one guy.

199

u/SternMon Mar 15 '24

It shows just how much of a threat Luffy has become. We're really in the endgame here.

11

u/Kuliyayoi Mar 16 '24

They're not there because of luffy. They're there because of vegapunk and bonni

35

u/zoras99 Mar 15 '24

No, it absolutely means nothing like that. The only thing Luffy did was force Saturn to step in. Everything else was caused by Vegapunk.

CP0 was sent to kill Vegapunk. They got blocked by the StrawHats, so a Buster Call was ordered.

Saturn was on his way there as part of the Buster Call. Thats all Luffy actually caused. He caused another Buster Call and the descent of 1 elder.

The other 4 dropped in because Vegapunk was cheeky and put Bonnie as the top command for the Pacifistas and started a world wide transmission about "the truth of the world".

Only 2 elders are actually trying to eliminate Luffy. Saturn and Jupiter.

Oda was very clear showing Mars and Venus proritizing stopping Vegapunk's antics. Mars went directly for Punk Records and Venus was deleting the Pacifistas.

Its funny we didnt see what Warcury was doing, but this entire debacle isnt just because of Luffy. Currently, he is 2/5 of the main priority at this point.

16

u/klbm9999 Mar 16 '24

Yup, our boy may have awakened the fruit, but he still knows jack shit about his own lore. Ain't no gorosei worried about being punked by luffy. They hauled ass to stop vegapunk snitching.

11

u/Vaginite Mar 15 '24

Its kind of surreal to finally be at that point. I remember when the 5 geezers kept thinking Luffy was a minor menace on the horizon, defeating shichubukais and CP9. Our boy has grown!

34

u/ArchdukeOfWalesland Mar 15 '24

Two did leave to fight elsewhere almost immediately

13

u/II_Vortex_II Mar 15 '24

This feels Like Seven deadly sins when Meliodas fights 2 of the 10 commandments and does pretty good but then all of them are teleported there and He gets wrecked

10

u/Ko-san Mar 15 '24

They're there to try to silence Vegapunk first and foremost.

1

u/Javiklegrand Mar 16 '24

Yeah it's not because of Luffy but because of Vegapunk.

The whole gorosei téléported to stop Vegapunk broadcast

8

u/CelioHogane Mar 15 '24

I mean tecnically they didn't do that, Venus and Marcus fucked off to do something else, and Mercury didn't move a single inch this entire fucking chapter.

8

u/Kumbhankaran Void Month Survivor Mar 15 '24

Not the first time it happened. Sabo was against them as well plus Imu.

The brothers are built different

11

u/Anshin Pirate King Buggy Mar 15 '24

There were people saying Saturn wouldn't even fight, it'd be too early for an elder to be defeated

7

u/ButtNakedNasty Pirate Mar 15 '24

At 1110 chapters in, we're too deep in to say it'd be too early for anything lmao

8

u/mr_chub Void Month Survivor Mar 15 '24

to be fair i also thought it might be too early but you're absolutely right

2

u/Pinguinmeister Mar 16 '24

But with all those ideas of Saturn dieing there, with the arrival of the other Gorosei it's probably not gonna happen. But seriously, I wonder how many giants will die or how the Strawhats will escape with Kizaru and all 5 Elders on the scene.

I can't imagine that the Elders will be defeated, neither can I imagine that they will be like "Yeah, you can leave. We only want to stop the video message and snack the motherflame. See you later and have a nice day, my dudes."

5

u/Kuro013 Mar 15 '24

I thought Saturn alone was already too much for what I expected lmao.

4

u/GriffinFlash Mar 16 '24

Honestly, they're in a scary situation right now. Glad the giants are at least there.

1

u/Javiklegrand Mar 16 '24

Yeah thanks god thé Giants came in clutch

4

u/Yellow90Flash Mar 15 '24

watch dragon appear next, this is the perfect opportunity for the revolutionaries to get the elders

1

u/hesawavemasterrr Mar 17 '24

Yea. One was already way beyond expectations.

I’m sure none will die here. One at the most but it’s really gonna humble the Straw Hats.

127

u/HistoryWillRepeat Explorer Mar 15 '24

It feels like yesterday we were all discussing how cute their new outfits are. I thought Egghead was going to be a short arc where they have fun and discover a buncj of lore before leaving for Elbaph. Crazy where we are now.

19

u/yosayoran Mar 15 '24

It's even crazier that Elbaf might end up being the short fun arc before laugh tale

Tbh I thought the timer was ridiculous but what do I know

22

u/scwhiftysauce Mar 15 '24

Remember when this arc was supposed to just be a “Kuma’s backstory arc?”

BB also lucked the fuck out that it was Law and not Nika who came his way.

1

u/Javiklegrand Mar 16 '24

I meant kid kinda died lol, at least Luffy will likely survives

13

u/MysticalMystic256 Mar 15 '24

if last arc had over the top, this arc is double over the top

3

u/Javiklegrand Mar 16 '24

Wano was level 5 ,this arc is level 15

9

u/TheStimmingClown Mar 15 '24

Imagine someone telling you all this during the first chapter off egghead

7

u/Quibbrel Void Month Survivor Mar 15 '24

I still distinctly remember we thought this arc was going be very Zou-like. Small and lore heavy arc before we move onto Elbaf where a real conflict happens

6

u/Worthyness Mar 15 '24

And this wasn't even all that quick. It was a slow burn escalation that's gone batshit insane

6

u/MarcoMaroon Mar 15 '24

I can’t wait to see what Oda’s cooked for the conclusion of this arc.

It’s gonna be crazy.

1

u/Javiklegrand Mar 16 '24

The egghead sounds juicy

5

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '24

I thought it was pretty tense when an admiral AND elder were showing up. Now Kizaru may as well not exist to Luffy. Admirals are officially Zoro and Sanji business.

5

u/KOPLO97 Mar 15 '24

LOL For Reals 🤣

well that eggscalated...get it? get it?

i'll walk myself out

2

u/RigbyEleonora Mar 15 '24

Blackbeard vs Dragon vs Imu three way fight in ten chapters, calling it

1

u/goody153 Mar 15 '24

yeah lol

1

u/MrWinks Mar 16 '24

The scary thing is, what if this fight ends fully? What about the knights?
