We have confirmation that the giant robot awakens when Nika heartbeat echoes. Remember that 200 years ago this same robot climbed Redline. Then someone must have awakened the hito hito no mi at that time. But he was "cleansed" by the WG

The inclusion of this robot is super interesting. It really like most of One Piece going forward was going to be resolving these long standing mysteries, ultimately leading up to the climax, and yet here Oda is setting something new up that seemingly will have major significance. Because unless I’m wrong, in addition to the VC, Noland’s time, and Roger’s era, this is a completely new page of history we’re exploring. And everything about we learn about it only raises more questions.

I don’t think it was being powered by someone with the fruit at that time, but it’s possible

You're absolutely right. The era 200 years ago gets (slowly) more intersting. Why did the WG suddenly decided to recognize Fishmen as human ??
