End of the chapter had me absolutely sobbing, but I started crying earlier at the lipstick part. I always thought Bonney's lipstick looked a little weird, not bad necessarily but not really reflective of how lipstick is generally applied young women in OP. I thought it was just a little design quirk, but having it be because she forced herself to grow up fast and wasn't able to naturally learn it from her own mother is so sad. The style is more like how older ladies in OP have their lipstick, which makes sense considering her crew taught her what they knew from spending all their time with the old folks in Sorbet.

It's the little details like this that makes it seem like Oda has this all planned out from the start, even if he is just a master of creating context seemlessly for existing ideas.

It's incredible how everything just fits back together into one coherent whole. Especially with Bonney.. Her ring, her hat, her crew, her lipstick, her appetite, the reason why she appeared as a kid a few times before.

It's the same style hat that Queen Dowager Conney had and is the hat that Bonney was wearing when she snuck last CP8 and Alpha at the beginning of her pirate journey last chapter.

Yeah, it's a known fact that the Supernovas were pretty much created on a whim, but Bonney's been folded into the greater whole in such a satisfying way. It really is the bow tied on top of everything we've read up until now.

To be fair, Bonney might be the exception. Oda almost certainly had Kuma’s story planned out by Sabaody, given his actions and words, so he may have simply taken his idea for Kuma’s daughter and placed her in the arc as one of the Supernova.

I think the core of Kumas story may have been planned out as early as his first appearance after Alabasta. The religious imagery with his Bible and the fact he appeared at the same time as the Elders is evidence of this.

I agree. Oda once created Vivi and Miss Wednesday as separate characters, then merged them into one. I assume the same thing happened here, too.

The way I saw it is Bonney's crew plays along with whatever she wants. Why not tell her that's not how you apply lipstick?

They love her, they know for the first 10 years of her life she never even experienced sunlight, they know she wants to find her father. They let her have fun with the world outside, they help her so she can be as free as she wishes.

The style is akin to how Japanese (or more generally Eastern Asian) women apply their lipstick. You can see Blue Eye Samurai to see what I am talking about.

There was a time before WCI where some ppl, myself included, thought Bonney was going to be related to Big Mom. Her ship design, her eating habits, her hair colour and her lipstick were some of the reasons why.
