Seeing pre-timeskip events being drawn with the modern art style will always be really cool

Yeah, it's always fun to compare.

And is a nice glimpse into what could be the remake of The One Piece

You've heard about the anime remake. Now witness Oda remaking One Piece from Chapter 1 with his current art.

RIP Cooler Chopper.

Maybe seeing cooler chopper in new art will be a thing? Could be doubly awesome!

Nah, I'd really like our man to take some rest

That's essentially the colored manga version.

Boichi is doing that

Except his art style keeps evolving and he has to redo it again a third time because it's changed so much.

Is current art better?

i don't know if this is a hot or cold take, but i actually love the old style of the anime a lot. if anything, I'd much rather they actually attempt to replicate the changing of oda's style over the years but keep the animation quality high. as in, less hanging on frames and more impact stuff.

Its one of many things I respect the hell out of Oda as a professional. On top of my head he said he will always draw call backs no matter what, even ones where other authors might simply copy paste from previous issues. Not dissing other artists of course I totally understand why theyd do that, but Odas dedication is just something else.

It was a great drive down memory lane. Sabaody arc even better knowing Kumas thoughts

And sneaking in the famous "reaction" posts to what Luffy accomplished in his early days (back when those characters hadn't been introduced yet so there was no possibility to show their reactions) is really cool.

Also, is this the final confirmation that it was Dragon who saved Luffy from execution in Loguetown?

Who else could it be besides Dragon after all lol

Unless the lightning was just dumb luck

Beforehand, there were many wild explanations. Now, it's like we were given some breadcrumbs.

It’s so cool to go back in time and see the history in new context. In fact not just mere history but stuff we already saw from a different side

Isn't there one oversight though? On Sabaody the Nami panel shows her with her long post timeskip hair.

12

u/mwrddt God Usopp Dec 21 '23

You can't really tell how long her hair is. Just that it reaches her shoulders, which it already did pre timeskip.

-1

u/Warumwolf Dec 21 '23

You can and it didn't though. It looks like it's resting on top on her raised left shoulder and hanging over her back which it shouldn't and her side bang is way too long if you compare it to her on the volume 52 cover for example. Her side bangs shouldn't be longer than up to her chin, in this chapter it's basically touching her clavicle.

7

u/mwrddt God Usopp Dec 21 '23

I disagree. It's still well within her hair length from pre timeskip. The hair on her back seems to stop at her shoulder and her left shoulder is clearly raised. That one lock isn't necessarily her side bang either, but could easily be a hair lock that moved to the front. Just it being a bit longer doesn't mean it's definitively her post time skip hair.

I highly doubt they forgot her hair but did detail the flowers of that particular outfit.

u/t3r4byt3l0l OG Trio Supremacy Dec 21 '23

The way the panel is drawn doesn't make it clear what her hair length is

Yeah, is cool to see how much the art style has changed over the years
