Discussion Phil Sgrosso is out of As I Lay Dying

"Hey everyone,

Thank you for your patience as I took time to gather my thoughts before speaking on the current state of As I Lay Dying.

With recent events, including the departure of band members and the cancellation of our European tour ahead of a new album release, it's clear we're in a difficult and serious situation.

Simply put, recent actions have shown that As I Lay Dying no longer offers a healthy or safe environment for anyone involved-whether creatively, personally, or professionally. After witnessing some concerning patterns of behavior, I've realized that I can no longer, in good conscience, enable further actions that could negatively affect anyone working within this space.

For these reasons, I feel it's in my best interest to completely distance myself, both creatively and personally, from As I Lay Dying.

I also want to share my full support for Ryan, Ken, and Nick, who made the choice to step away recently. I'm grateful for our accomplishments and friendship over the past 3 years.

With 21 years that I have dedicated to this band, it does not sit well with me to leave or abandon what I've considered to be my "life's work." I don't feel that I, or others, should be forced out like so many have in the past.

After all that's been put into this, I believe that with the right adjustments and restructuring, our music can continue to thrive and explore new possibilities in a healthier environment.

Over time, As I Lay Dying has been held back by dysfunction, and I feel that it's no longer my responsibility to bear that burden.

Thank you to everyone who has shown support for me and the music of As I Lay Dying. I'm looking forward to putting my energy and creativity into new, more positive ventures in the near future.

-Phil Sgrosso"

Discussion Time to leave AILD and Tim in the past.

1.1k Upvotes

Should have never been allowed to even come back in the first place. But, a lot of us wanted to give them a second chance. But now this… -Ryan Neff announces his departure. -Tour is cancelled -Tour manager quits -Ken Susi quits. -Phil no longer follows AILD or Tim on Instagram. -Rumors swirling that someone in the band did something pretty bad over the past couple weeks.

… I think it’s time for everyone to forget about this band and I don’t think Tim should be able to continue on in the industry.

Discussion She left me cause of metalcore

1.8k Upvotes

So basically

First date. Tall pretty girl with blonde hair. I pick her up and we are on our way to the restaurant, and then I ask her what kind of music she likes. She says Taylor Swift and that kinda stuff. (I'm sorry my fellow metalheads, I know) so I let her control the aux for a lil bit. Then she wanted me to play the kind of stuff I'm into. Being into metalcore and all, I was super reluctant. So all I said was, you're probably not gonna like it. And she said "of course I will." What cap. I choose Meltdown by Motionless in White, and as soon as I click play, I turn to look at her, kind of side-eyeing her, and she's just smiling at me. Then... BLEGHH and she makes a disgusted face and looks panicked, so I hit pause. Long story short, she went on to be very quiet for most of the night while we were out eating then I walked her up to her door like a gentleman and she looks at me and says "your music sucks" and turns and goes inside and I'm just holding my arms out ready for a hug like 😃👐

Edit: Am I overreacted by typing all of this or did she overreact? At any rate I doubt we'll be seeing each other any time soon. If you're here then thank you for reading all the way down lol

Discussion Hey umm don't bring a fucking baby to a metal show

1.2k Upvotes

Currently at TDWP/Silent Planet show, very excited know everyone's gonna kill it. But what I'm going to talk about is the people that we're in front of me in line with a literal INFANT child they brought into the show. Yes the child had ear protection but at that young there's still very real possibility it'll fuck up their hearing. I know FOMO is a real thing but don't fuck up your child's hearing because you don't want to miss out on seeing the screamy people. If you can't get a sitter then you don't get to go. Period.

Edit: To everyone literally getting out of this that I'm at the show on Reddit (not the point of this though lol), I'm literally at barricade waiting for the show to start. Don't worry I'll enjoy the show. Planets one of my favorite bands.

Edit 2: I think I need to reiterate here, it was an INFANT. Like doesn't even know how to walk or talk yet INFANT. Not a small child/toddler like some people are talking about.

Discussion Metalcore fans need to shower more.

1.2k Upvotes

That’s it. That’s the post.

Metalcore crowds always smell terrible.

If I were President of Metalcore, I’d make an executive order that all patrons of concerts are required to shower directly before attending. No exceptions!

Upvote if you agree, or downvote if you don’t!

Discussion What’s the cringiest thing you ever seen a band do on stage?

For me it was Glass Cloud in like 2012, Jerry took the time to complain about people on the internet calling him Jerry Douche and ASSURING us that he was in fact NOT a douche

Another time around that era seeing For Today, and look I have no problem with religion believe what you want, and I've seen Christian bands quickly shout out Jesus during their set and that's fine, but Matty no joke took 20 MINUTES out of their set to basically give a sermon. I remember walking outside and smoking a cigarette and coming back in and he was still going

Discussion [Meta] Why was the footage of Tim Lambesis abusing his wife on CCTV removed?

This feels very relevant to this community.

For years people have stated that they continue to support Tim because ‘people can change’.

It’s very clear Tim didn’t change, and apart from all the questions regarding why everyone quit, I feel it is important to show the community who Tim is and that we indeed should not support him at all.

Why was it deleted?

Discussion Shut the fuck up when the bands are playing.

1.1k Upvotes

Seriously I can't believe how often during shows there's people having these loud side conversations while the bands are playing. I guess I can only speak for myself but I paid money to watch my favorite bands play music not to listen to a group of people next to me loudly converse about whatever. The whole thing drives me fucking nuts. And if you're with a group that has people doing this please police your friends and tell them to shut the fuck up.

Edit: apparently it needs to be said: this post isn't talking about people who talk between songs or sets. It's about people who are fucking screaming to have conversations while the band is playing fucking music. I thought that was obvious but I guess not.

Discussion Did Sam of Architects never write any lyrics before Tom died? The shift in lyrics is aweful.

I know Tom wrote most of the music before he died, but I thought the others, especially Sam, were actually involved.

During interviews Sam always seemed to have a very personal connection to them, and I loved the band for actually ‘having something to say’. Many of the lyrics made young me think about my positions on certain items.

After Tom died, they released Holy Hell, which still contained great lyrics (and music).

FTTWTE started the lyrical quality plunge.

TCSOABS was the first album where the lyrics felt completely and utterly meaningless.

Now we have several singles from their upcoming album. The first one was essentially a ‘fuck you all’ towards the fans who wanted to have heavy music, which they then ended up making anyway. Odd choice.

Whiplash feels like a 12 year old in high school wrote it. It’s ridiculous.

fuck you is you disapprove

who gives a fuck unless you’re one of us

you’re fucking lying if you tell the truth

dripping in blood

lit under halo’s

quit talking like you are bulletproof

did you disapprove — motherfucker

These are not serious lyrics, and they are frankly utterly embarrassing from a band who genuinely has made some of the best lyrical albums in metalcore history.

Discussion Metalcore bands where the Vocalist is too good of a clean singer.

Alr I know folks like Howard Jones, Marcus Bridge from Northlane, Marcus Vik from Invent Animate, Sam Carter, Courtney LaPlante and Andy Cizek. I needed more of the bands where the vocalist is a really great singer, cuz I really don't find much nowdays.

Discussion Give me one song that hits right in the feels for my playlist. Mom passed away and I need to feel the pain, currently feeling numb.

Edit: just want to make a quick edit to thank you all for your recommendations and well wishes. Quick rundown, my daughter was born a few days ago while my mom was admitted to hospital 6 hours away. Since my mother had some health issues that could pass to newborn they were never able to meet. I decided to throw caution out the door and drive to see my mother since she wasn't doing well. As I was planning out my route, first time traveling with a newborn, I received a called and was able to say good bye to my mom as she was passing. Seeing her face as she was passing will forever be seared into my memory. I dont know if she was still able to hear me but she looked scared and not being able to hold her as she passed will haunt me forever. I've never in my life experienced such highs and lows. I want to speak to my mom but she doesn't exist anymore and my brain frantically tries to make it not real as if she is just away for a bit but then reality sets in like a ton of bricks and I go from experiencing the saddest moment to feeling nothing. Then I see my daughter and my emotions go through the roof, just been a crazy cycle so far and I'm exhausted. I wish i could respond to everyone but I have to go pack now for her funeral but I'll be making this playlist with all your suggestions.

Discussion Tim Lambesis Statement Re: As I Lay Dying

Edit: link https://www.instagram.com/p/DB9Ve7syvrF/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

The original IG post was deleted shortly after being posted, but this was the content:

“I needed some time to process all that has happened recently with AILD. As I reflect, I certainly agree that there was an unhealthy environment that made leaving for a new tour with the previous lineup unrealistic. It had become difficult to figure out even the smallest details, and I admit I can stick strong to my vision for the future of AILD even when others think it should go another direction.

It saddens me to think about the behaviors, communication, and patterns of interaction that led up to the tour cancellation. Phil and I no longer saw eye to personally, creatively, or financially. Discussions during this time prompted his decision to depart first, with each of the touring members deciding to leave shortly after, as they were not interested in going on without him. Unfortunately, that wasn't the order in which everything was made public, as some statements were rushed out during a chaotic time in response to rumors. I fully support each of the guys' decisions to leave and believe at this time it is best for everyone. With that being said, my door will always remain open to discussing anything directly as I believe closing communication lead to many assumptions and problems of its own.

Now, regarding what's next: AILD was founded on persistence and determination. For anyone who is familiar with the foundational years from 2000-2004, you know that more than 20 people (whom I'm incredibly grateful for) have come and gone to help bring to life this vision I've had in my head since I was 19 years old. I look forward to building a new team, and creating an atmosphere that is supportive, positive, and fosters a creative environment.

"Through Storms Ahead" will still be released November 15. I am proud of what we created and look forward to sharing it with all of you”

There's too many "bAnDs you cAnT get iNtO" threads. So go ahead, take all the time to meat ride your favorite metalcore band in the comments. Sing their praises, cryeth out to the heavens how wonderful they are, and I'll be sure to ruin your vibe by telling you how ASS they are. You will be subject to belittling, gate keeping, and all around nastiness and elitism. Remember, everything YOU like SUCKS, and everything I like is GREAT

Edit: jokes aside, this is one of my favorite subs to visit, thanks to everyone who has a sense of humor, much love ❤️ now quit your band and cut your hair and get a day job

Edit 2: Jesus Christ every other new comment is either erra or Polaris, the jokes about this sub really write themselves. What, you don't know how to read? You're just sooooo eager to blindly nut ride erra and Polaris you didn't even bother to notice the 3000 other people who already said em?

Discussion I’m here to start arguments on the internet: metalcore 2004-2014 fucking shits on 2014-2024 (I’m being hyperbolic)

Keep your clean vocals, chord progression, “riffs”, and all that pretty shit. Metalcore today is just nu metal for gen z. I saw Bad Omens a while back when they replaced ETID on the Underoath tour and almost fucking fell asleep. How could they replace ETID, fucking metalcore legends, with hot topic music. Could you fall asleep while seeing The Chariot live? Fuck no, you’d be sucked into the vortex chaos of a real fucking mosh pit. Sleep Token? Jesus fucking christ, what are we even doing any more. The Boston metalcore scene alone shits on all of these modern bands. On Broken Wings? Early Bury Your Dead? The Acacia Strain?!?! Tell me with a straight face that Spiritbox is in the same genre as any of those bands. Kids these days can’t even appreciate Converge. Get your fucking vape out of my face and get the fuck out of my scene.

I’m completely joking (not really). I love modern metalcore (not really). I love it all (not really but it’s digestible). I’m just here to chat lol

Discussion Why do metalheads hate metalcore?

Some people say the metalcore genre isn't metal, and that's ridiculous. I think there are stupid people who don't want metal to evolve. Like everything in metal, it evolves and gets better. I think the metalcore genre has a very valuable place for metal. Because I think it strengthens and secures the metal from different angles. I'm curious about your thoughts.
