This thing was great when I first got it 2 months ago, it’s proven to be the worst keyboard I ever ever gotten and yet it’s the most expensive. It first started by not working in wireless mode and now the entire point of buying it, the screen, it doesn’t fucking work anymore even after updating every driver and trying to sync it multiple times.

Review Glorious customer support is awful

3.4k Upvotes

Just a heads up if anyone is planning on ordering anything from Glorious — you might end up with an empty box on you door steps.

I ordered a flex kit last Wednesday. And Monday afternoon, the package arrived with a flap open. It looks like whoever draped up the package put all the tape on one side, essentially leaving the box unsealed. And unfortunately it arrived here with nothing but packaging material inside.

After reaching out to Glorious customer support, the response I received is “Once the tracking updates with a "DELIVERED" status, we cannot be held responsible for any damages, losses, or instances of theft.”

So as of now, I’m sitting on a bunch of parts and out nearly $70 with an empty package. Needless to say, this is the last time I’ll be building Glorious keyboards, and I’d like to share my experience in case if anyone else might end up where I am.

Review Be careful of CandyKeys.

I did not want to go to these lengths, but after more than a year (ordered 8/21/2023) they failed to deliver my product and I still haven't received my refund.

I had to cancel my custom order due to personal circumstances that were not planned. I had to leave the country therefore I was unable to receive the product.

I requested a refund, and they promised one. They told me that selling a custom board would take a week.

A week passes and still no refund. I ask, they told me that it might take a little longer which I did not mind.

Months go by, they apologize but nothing changes.

This is where it gets interesting

I come back to my country. I then tell them:

Since I have yet to receive my refund, I want to receive my product. (7/18/2024)

They then proceeded to ask if the weight of the board matters. I tell them yes, it does matter as and I want the product that I ordered.

After back and forth with me telling them that I want the exact board I ordered (which as they said it is literally linked to my name) they told me that they did not have my exact board, but one with a different plate on the bottom.

But it gets weirder

They said: We never had the keyboard as it has not come yet, it will still come regardless, but if you want something this coming week then we need to send what we have.

After more confusing emails, it ends with them saying:

Well I have the product, so we can send it, as you ordered. I am confused as 5 emails ago you wrote we should send it then…. (the last sentence is regarding me saying to please just send the board I ordered)

I received an email confirming that my order dispatched (7/21/2024)

And after more than one month, they follow up by saying that they have to cancel the order. (9/16/2024)

And after asking for a refund over and over again, they said:

You gave me your [Bank name] so I will do it now.

5 days go by. No refunds yet. I ask again and to summarize it they say:

You never gave me your bank information (?)

I told them to send me their PayPal to request a refund they do! And still, no money refunded.

This has been incredibly frustrating, and I understand this was a custom order made for me and it might take time for it to be sold, but the amount of time waiting and miscommunication is not fair. Not to mention that they didn't even send me my product. They agree that it's crazy, yet, no refunds have been made. Thank you if you read this far.

EDIT: I was refunded soon after this post

9/25/24 CandyKeys delivered a free Neo65 as an apology.

Review KBDcraft’s Kit Adam “LEGO” Keyboard

Thumbnail
gallery
3.5k Upvotes

$100 kit comes with everything needed to build this keyboard (except a brush for lubing the stabilizers; the switches however are pre-lubed). Technically, you can buy each component individually on their website, opting for alternatives wherever you'd like. But everything they provide by default is pretty great, especially the switch + keycap combo making a satisfying sound similar to the building sound effect in the LEGO video games.

I am more LEGO enthusiast than keyboard enthusiast so I may not be able to give a well-informed take on this keyboard itself, but I will say that the generic knock-off bricks they use for the case is definitely not as precise and high-quality as actual LEGO bricks. It definitely gets the job done and is very reasonable for the price, however I will probably switch them out with LEGO bricks at some point.

Review Cerakey Review: Potentially the worst premium caps money can buy.

Thumbnail

I had seen cerakey floating around SM for a good while and didn’t give it too much thought… but then a preorder came out for china blue and they had allegedly fixed issues from their previous sets, double win, I wanted it! So I pre-ordered 2 different colorways so my ex and I could swap and try different color palettes (now I get both of these… “wonderful” sets (and no, it wasn’t a fluke, both sets are awful) 😂).

Fast forward a year and some change and the caps I forgot about were here! Excitement Reignited! And then disaster struck almost immediately. So originally, I guess the stems were ceramic like the rest of the cap, but they couldn’t get the tolerances tight enough, so in the V2, the stems are plastic, and apparently hand glued very poorly. My sets are so horribly snaggletoothed that it hurts my soul 😂 I think it was something like $160 a set… And what I got was $160 worth of disappointment.

It looks ok at a glance, but it’s awful to type on. You fingers can feel that this cap is tilted to the left and the cap next door is tilted to the right, you can feel that the next cap is actually level, but the one right over is not only tilted to the left, but also twisted. Because of this inconsistency, you get caps that come into contact with eachother, which is kind of a pretty sound when you do it on purpose, but to have random caps ringing out while typing gets old real quick. Then to top it off, the low tolerances cause caps to get stuck.

If these were some $30 knock offs on Amazon, then I wouldn’t even bat an eye at the quality, but for a company that is so highly advertised, and a price that is quite premium, I expect these things to have very minor issues at the most, but these things have nothing but issues. I can recommend them to absolutely no one unless you want to use them exclusively for aesthetics on a board you don’t plan on actually using.

This is the worst product I’ve tried in 2024, and if you respect yourself, your board, and your wallet, don’t buy these shit tier caps, I guarantee they’re worse than almost anything else you can get.

Review Posted in Glorious Keyboard about their terrible customer service and got banned.

Just a buyer beware, they don’t stand behind their products whatsoever. They make it impossible to even start an RMA, requesting document after document and no matter what it’s never the right document. Then they want video proof of your broken keyboard, just to never respond to your inquiry. Finally went to their subreddit to which a mod or admin replied asking for the attached email to which I provided and they said they would look into it. Didn’t hear anything back from them, then got a notice today from Reddit stating I was banned from their subreddit. I would avoid this company like the plague, never have I had a tech company go above and beyond to make repairing/replacing their product so difficult. Still stuck with a broken keyboard too!

Review Free the nipple!

Post image
903 Upvotes

I sold my shinobi a bit too early, life without the nub has been difficult. But finally I’ve gotten my hands on the Tex Shura ;)

There are a couple changes I’d make, but this is as close to a perfect keyboard as I’ve seen yet. I really don’t understand why more manufacturers don’t embrace the laptop style 75% layout. (Or maybe even a 7row style Thinkpad keyboard would be appropriate here) It’s used on laptops for a reason, you get all the useful keys without the cumbersome size of a full keyboard. The wireless implementation is not great either. No 2.4 GHZ support, and the choice to rely on AA batteries dumbfounds me. If I’m making a wishlist, rapid trigger and a soft white LED pass through backlight would be a bonus.

Life for a nip enthusiast is tough, but this makes things a little more bearable. I really appreciate the evolution that TEX has gone though over the years. From someone who’s owned several of their keyboards, the improvement to sturdiness, improved keycap quality, and added hotswap functions make me really appreciate their work, and can’t wait to see what improvements they have in store for the years to come.

Looking forward to recommendations on some really nice smooth linear switches. I’m a big fan of the ones on my brothers huntsman mini.

Review it’s finally here 🎋

This keyboard (Akko Mountain Seclusion) grabbed my attention the moment I saw it in a YouTube PC building video. I looked it up, only to find it out of stock until I realized I was on the US site. I switched to the EU site, saw it was listed as “restocking soon,” and placed my order. It took 6 days to restock and another 2 weeks for me to finally get my hands on it.

The base is CNC processed walnut and a nice change from the typical plastic ones. It’s not heavy, approximately 0.85 kg according to Akko. It has a pleasant wooden scent up close, which I like. Mine came with the Akko Rosewood switches. I was expecting the V3 Pianos, but I suppose that depends on stock since I didn’t see the site listing both switches.

What I love most about it are the keycaps. They’re Moa profile PBT dye sub, with a Chinese mountain theme. The colors remind me a lot of tiramisu, which makes my mouth water every time I look at it. Having grown up in China myself, it feels special to own something like this as a “cultural piece”, integrated into one of my hobbies.

Extra: -Full foam -RGB backlit -Hot-swappable -Gasket mounted -Bluetooth Mac and Windows compatible.

All in all, it’s a great keyboard for €142.

Review An open Letter to Glorious Gaming

This letter is specifically about the GMMK Pro Keyboard. I have had some pretty good products from them before, but this specific product is making me more and more angry as I work on more and more.

Dear Glorious Gaming,

Firstly let me start by introducing myself. This is by no means me trying to brag or throw credentials out there, but it will give you an idea of my experience, and hopefully give some kind of credence to this letter. I am what I like to call an Artisan. I have worked on keyboards for over 3 years professionally, 10 years in a more hobby capacity and have been into the Mechanical Keyboard scene for over 30 years. I've earned my stripes. I've worked on countless boards. I've lubed so many switches it will make your eyes water and I've customized and repaired a LOT of boards.

With that out of the way, I want to address a problem that has been brooding in my mind for a while now, and I really hope you feel like this is something that needs attention. I worked on my first GMMK Pro just after launch, and built a board for a customer that I was pretty proud of. Yes, there were problems with the Stabs, they were shit! No problem, lets put Durock v2 Stabs in as they are not shit! Oh wait, they don't fit, okay, I'll give the benefit of the doubt and mod the plate to make them fit. The board was delivered to the customer, and he was happy. This board had KBDFans PBT keycaps on it, and thank God it did, because if it had worse keycaps on it, I would have heard the glaring sound problems in the board, and not really have known what to do.

Fast forward a year later, and I have just worked on my 15th board, a customers board no less. And there are problems, some you know about, and some I'm sure you have turned a deaf ear to, but man oh man are there problems!

Without going into story format here,. let me just put down the serious problems that I feel is seriously robbing people of their hard earned cash:

1) Every Single GMMK Pro that I have worked on has been a completely different experience from the one before, with some have minor problems and others are write-offs.
2) Every board, for some or other reason sounds completely different. I truly believe that you are using crap quality Aluminium or an alloy. One of the two. The one I just finished sounded like tin.
3) How on God's green earth do you create a gasket mount design, but it's not able to actually move when you screw the case together.
4) The optional plates you sell range between below average to unusable. They are shit. FR4 or aftermarket is the only true option.
5) I have no idea what your gaskets are made out of, but they start disintegrating within one week of use. Did you just take human heel filings and mix them together with a weak glue and then press out some shapes.
6) They are too thin as well.
7) Your foam is shit too. And inconsistent. Sometimes it mutes the sound so much and other times I feel like I could've farted into the case and it would have provided more sound insulation.
8) The amount of money it costs to procure your board, then buy aftermarket parts to fix all the problems, factoring the cost of someone to do the massive amount of work to get the board sounding good, puts the price of this board well over Entry Level/Mid tier, and firmly into the realm of High End Price. This is not a good thing or a compliment. If you truly believe this board is a High end piece of equipment, God help us all.
9) You clearly do not know or understand your competition. Period. Boards from Akko/Keychron/CannonKeys/NovelKeys/Meletrix/KBDFans are literal Galaxies ahead in assembly, use and feel.
10) Some of the solder work on your board looks like my dog did it, after a really heavy party, while all four legs are in a cast. No, he cannot solder either.
11) The cost of your switches, aftermarket plates, accessories and merch is also overpriced. Very overpriced.

I truly believe you are seriously doing the Custom Keyboard scene a major disservice. Why, you may ask? Well if a first time buyer of a Custom Mechanical Keyboard buys one of these, I can truly understand why they might think the hobby is filled with a bunch of idiots who blow ridiculous amounts of money of overpriced, hyped up truly mediocre keyboards, because that's exactly what this board is. I even tried to sell myself on this board, and put it down to me being picky and someone who has unrealistic expectations. But alas, I was wrong. After using your competitors products, I sorry to tell you that you are swimming in a pool way to deep for you. Maybe you should stick to the paddling pool.

Glorious, I'm sorry I had to write this letter to you, but someone had too. I see so many people online justifying their purchase of the GMMK Pro, and I don't blame them, They are not justifying it out of loyalty to your brand, I can assure you of that, they are doing it because they spent $300-$500 dollars of their hard earned money on something that $100 and a little elbow grease can outperform.

You should make things right with customers who purchased this board. Not by offering a 10% discount on your next "Greatest Keyboard".
You should ship them one for free, or give people the option of a no questions asked refund.
But you won't, so that's why I am want this letter to go far and wide and discourage anyone from buying the GMMK Pro in it's current form.
Go on, prove me wrong, Make this right. Make a product that is actually mind blowing and get it to the people who have been affected by this. I dare you!!!!

Regards

PS Thanks for all the business you've sent my way by selling this board, and then people send it to me to get fixed, but I'd rather be spending my time building awesome customized keyboards instead!!

Review NuPhy DOES NOT accept returns and has extremely poor customer service

Had a horrible experience with NuPhy. Two things:

  1. They refuse to accept returns if the package is opened or the product is used. Yet their refund policy on their website mentioned that we may return the item in original condition if we are not completely satisfied with our purchase. How do we find out if we are satisfied if we don't even open our package??
  2. The first package is lost in transit. They kept me waiting for a month since the package dispatch date and after my four email chasers. Eventually this is resolved by them sending me another package through DHL. They also did not honor the $25.99 shipping cost refund eventually and gave me $10 refund (for a $163 order) instead for my troubles.

This is literally the first time I write negatively about a brand on reddit, as this is really disappointing given how much they spent on marketing and how well known they are.

Edits for updates (First off, thank you all for your attention!!)

  1. Lodged a PayPal chargeback. NuPhy asked for a return to an Asia container address in order for me to receive a refund.
  2. The return address reads super odd - "XIANGGANGKWAI CHUNGRMC&D,1/F,BLK.2 ,KWAI TAK IND. CTR., 15-33 KWAI TAK STREET, KWAI CHUNG, H.K. Tel :36931229  A/C : (ECM2294TCN)Attn : Thomas". I looked it up, XIANGGANG seems to be Hong Kong..
  3. Shipping cost is prohibitively expensive: very likely costs ~$100. Will be asking for a US shipping if they have any; if not, I guess it is what it is.

(see screenshots below)

1.1 (Refuse to refund)

1.2 (Return policy on their website)

2.1 (Offered shipping cost refund at the beginning)

2.2 (After sending out the replacement, they refused to honor the shipping cost refund, and said that they would refund the shipping cost only if I waited for the original package, which had never arrived. And the "premise" they mentioned was not brought up in their original offer)
