Announcement MOD [re]POST - A reminder of our rule regarding comments
Ahoy-hoy, folks. Hope everyone is doing swimmingly as we start to shuffle ourselves back to more normal life!
It's been a while, and given how many new folks we've seen join over the past year or so, I think it's time we take the time to remind y'all of our one rule here when it comes to comments:
Don't be dicks to each other.
It's a fairly simple rule, but one that I am disappointed to see many users wantonly breaking, both old hats and new folks alike. It's really not that difficult to not call people names, for example.
And if you see someone being a dick, report the comment! Since we're a fairly small sub, literally all the reports are reviewed by a human, and reports don't auto-remove comments (at least not in /r/Maher, can't speak for other subreddits).
Keep your stick on the ice, folks, and please feel free to post and questions/concerns/etc in this thread. It'll be up for a good long while.
And maybe remember the Possum Lodge oath and the Man's Prayer, for a little giggle in your day.

Do you guys have views on the Club Random spinoffs?
I’ve watched Real Time since the beginning. The same is true for Club Random. Separately, I’ve always been a Jillian Michaels fan and have enjoyed her workouts and podcasts for over 10 years. Her podcasts were relatable, talking about fitness and her personal life as if you were listening to a friend. I never heard of Sage Steele before. I enjoyed listening to her and Jillian on Club Random and hearing about their cancel or cancel adjacent experiences.
I was excited to listen to their podcasts with Bill’s backing. However, they have become all about politics. I’m all for a conversation about cancel culture and speaking out on topics. I enjoy hearing Jillian talk about big pharma and the food industry, as she always did. I have no interest in hearing about NATO or the Middle East. When did we make the leap from having experts in certain areas become victims railing against the establishment in areas where they have no experience? I’m sure Sage is brilliant at sports commentary. She’s not a foreign relations expert. What’s driving this? Is it an attempt to get some of the Megyn Kelly fan base? I’m genuinely interested.

Discussion How would you react if Bill suddenly started endorsing Trump?
I don't think there's any danger of that, but then I didn't think Joe Rogan ever would, although obviously he was never as critical, but as an avid long time listener of his it did freak me out.
I remember he did this bit year's ago (Rogan) in response to GWB's dipshittery. He speculated that the people running things behind the scenes were playing games by seeing how stupid a person they could make president, and yet here he is endorsing the next level of moron, how did that happen?
Makes me think that perhaps everyone can be compromised. If Bill flipped I'd probably start believing in anything, lizard people, fake moon landings, Jewish space lazers.
I'm hoping Maher has Michael Moore back on early in the new year to talk about the healthcare system
Moore is getting some attention since he was mentioned in the shooters "manifesto". Since Bill respects Moore and he's great at explaining the nuance of what's going on it would be a great interview topic.
Lets not waste time going down vaccine rabbit holes again... and focus on how broken the overall system is.

MISLEADING TITLE How long?
Will Bill sell out?I don't mean Trump support, full on. But can anyone else see a scenario where he entertains more and more right leaning guests in his basement, to the point where hbo cancels his show. Then, his resentment for the left establishment slowly turns into support for the right, based mostly in retaliation. In two years time, I can see a very different version of the dude.

Question Bill Maher related gift idea?
Hello- I’ll keep this short! In an effort to give a thoughtful gift to my dad for Christmas, I am coming here for your help. He is a big fan of Bill Maher- his podcast specifically, the topics the guests etc. I don’t necessarily envision like podcast swag lol but I’m curious if I could glean some knowledge from other fans to help me!
Narrowly, what is something you think I should get him whether it’s something bill likes, has ever mentioned, something his guests and him talk about/enjoy, etc. And more broadly, blanket assumption there is some through-line between you reading this and my dad if you both share this commonality, what is a gift you would like to receive this year?
Thank you for playing virtual Santa for me- more appreciated than you know!

Discussion How Much "Work" Does Bill Maher Actually Do to Prepare Friday's "Real Time?"
As someone who has watched Real Time for about 20 years—just how much actual work does Bill Maher personally do to prepare for the Friday broadcast - that is when he's not taking months off for vacation.
On his Club Random podcast, I recall him admitting more than once that his writers handle nearly everything, at minimum. All the heavy lifting. He even implied it’s “cheating” (he used this exact word or something very similar ) to rely on them as much as he does, though he shrugged it off as “how the world works” when it comes to him getting all the credit.
And whatever, I know he's not the only person like this but turns me the most off is that he doesn’t give his writers the credit they deserve, at least not publicly.
And as for the closing segment he supposedly writes himself? He loves to emphasize how hands-on he is with it, but let’s be real—how confident are we that he’s putting together the final draft on his own? Something about it smells a bit too polished for his off-the-cuff vibe.
Thoughts? I admit, I used to watch his Friday show every every week religiously, but lately it's become less of a priority, I just feel like he's parroting at this point. I still tune in when I can, and will watch his podcast when a guest intrigues me.

Do you think Bill Maher reads this sub?
And do you think this sub has anything to do with how dismissive he's become of young people and people he deems to be internet trolls?

What is your opinion on how Bill handled the Nick Fuentes Question?
I think this might answer why there is so much hate in the sub. If you take religious extremism Bill's standards has always been the majority should hold a moral responsibility to condemn the extremist and their silence should be treated as endorsement of their actions. Does it feel like that standard was applied here?
Edit: Bill spends so much time taking about the woke mind virus and his dislike of religious extremism meanwhile an unironic Christo-Fascist is rallying young men to act the fool and we have literally clashes in the streets in cities like Boston and there is a tepid response at best. If you think the no name blue hair activist are a bigger issue we are definitely in decline as a nation.

Just listening to Donna is enough to see how out of touch much of the Democratic establishment is with reality. It's time for Democrats to stop taking cues from her and others like her.
I'm sorry if this upsets anyone, and maybe this will get downvoted, but enough is enough. There's no clear understanding of why we lost. How did we let an aging Biden stay on the ticket until everything fell apart? Kamala hasn’t managed to distance herself from him, and people like Donnaare now trying to "own it"? Really? Democrats like her have done significant damage to this country. The Supreme Court is red. The House is red. And now, Trump is back. It may not be the apocalypse, but it’s going to be bad.
What we should have been doing is taking a page from the opposition's playbook and fighting as hard for power as they do. You can't accomplish anything if you're not the ones running the show.
And now some are worried that Bill is becoming a darling of the right? Seriously? We've taken hit after hit—when are we going to learn?

Don't let Trump live in your head, but also where were the protests on the streets like last time?
Which is it Bill?
