Miscellaneous LPT: If a song is stuck in your head, play that song's ending.

Whenever a song gets stuck in my head (looking at you, All About That Bass), I play the last part of the song on my phone or imagine the ending in my head. This signals to my brain that the song has finished and it can now focus on something else.

Clothing LPT: Hit up the thrift stores in January and February; people will start to purge closets and drop off undesired gifts after the holiday season.

Make a good find for yourself, or get started on the next holiday season.

Finance LPT: If you see something "new/unopened" on Marketplace, Craigslist, etc, check the manufacturer website or Amazon first for an even cheaper price

Upvotes

This allows you to bypass the flippers who are taking advantage of sales prices, lightning deals, etc. I've been doing this for years and every time I start seeing a bunch of people on Facebook trying to flip the same "brand new unopened" piece of tech, I know to check elsewhere first if I'm actually interested.

You also might want to consider doing this anyway since you get a return period and a limited warranty.

Productivity LPT: If you want to increase the chances of achieving a goal, don't tell anyone. If you tell someone you get the dopamine reward without doing anything.

Miscellaneous LPT: Send the person who gave you a gift card, a picture of whatever you end up buying with it.

1.2k Upvotes

Giving a Gift card usually feels less personal but that little extra effort on the receiving end helps make it more meaningful.

Careers & Work LPT: Be weary of those who giving advice or try to sell you something without asking questions first.

People are quick to share but often take less time to understand.

For example: choosing a car varies greatly based on factors like what you want use the car for, your budget, etc etc. People who just spew what car they think is best aren't giving you informed advice if they haven't asked you the right questions first. These people have good intentions usually but lack the curiosity to really help in the most effective way.

*Wary not weary as pointed out in comments

Miscellaneous LPT: Bell train your animals in case they get lost. It only takes 1 or 2 days

5.6k Upvotes

I have 3 cats, and from the time I got my first one. I had rang a bell whenever I gave her wet food. It has come in handy almost a dozen times now, as people come over or life happens, a cat gets lost.

First thing I do is grab my kitty bell and they come running from under the neighbors deck or elsewhere (I live in a trailer park) I will give them a refresher every couple months just in case.

Every thrift store I've been to has a section of old, glass antique bells and you can pick whatever sound you like. Just try to pick one that isn't too high pitched, so the sound can be heard further away.

The steam created by the melting ice works like an iron

Finance LPT: If you get points & have rewards, buy gift cards

If you're going to make a purchase on amazon or something and your credit card gets points or cash back, go someplace like WaWa and get a giftcard to pay for the item. You get both points on your card and rewards on your loyalty account for an item you were going to purchase anyway.

Social LPT: If you don't want to feel old, DO NOT ever ask a child under the age of ten what they think 'old' is...nothing good will come of it.

Additional information: I have a six year old niece. Conversations can get interesting.

Electronics LPT: If you currently have Xfinity internet (either at or under 300mbps), it might be worth it to cancel it and get NOW Internet for a likely lower price

From what I seen, there are little differences between the two; noticeably the free xfinitywifi hotspot and the xfinity rewards; but outside of that, you might want to switch.

The reason you must cancel it for a few days is due to Xfinity not allowing current customers to get NOW Internet as their traditional internet is a CA$H COW

You need to cancel Xfinity for about a week (according to other testimonies) before you can get now.

hope this helps someone out there

When finished with opening all gifts, take the largest box and put all the shreds of wrapping, bags, envelopes in the box.

Close the box, store in garage for at least a week.

Insurance policy for accidentally discarding gift cards and cash. Find something missing? Check the box in the garage.

Clothing LPT: Micellar water can be a great stain remover

1.1k Upvotes

Discovered on holiday last week that micellar water seems to lift most stains from clothes in seconds. Just remembered this as I dribbled red wine on my sand coloured sweater and micellar water has removed it entirely.

Social LPT: when putting a ring on someone else’s finger, hold the end of that finger with your other hand

Got engaged recently and sort of struggled to slide the ring all the way onto her finger lol. Knew it wasn’t the wrong ring size because I had it sized to another ring she regularly wears on that finger. After we had a wholesome laugh about it, we practiced it a couple times and figured out that it was easier when I stabilized her hand by holding onto the tip of her ring finger.

Home & Garden LPT: After you do a load of laundry in your washer, leave the washer door open.

4.2k Upvotes

I work in a hotel and the amount of people that leave our washer doors closed while wet is shocking. This causes mold to gather around the rubber seals of your washer.

Food & Drink LPT: eat the hot dog when you’re arriving at Costco, not when you’re leaving

First time ever I didn’t wind up with a lot of junk food and convenience food in my cart. (Sorry if I’m the only one who wasn’t already doing this)

Productivity LPT: Use your phone’s “Do Not Disturb” for productivity, not just when you sleep.

Set “Do Not Disturb” during work or study hours to block out distractions. You’ll be amazed how much more focused you are when the pings are silent.
