Conservative ideology starts and ends with the idea of authority: the people who vote for the Republicans generally see Republicans as the people 'Who Should Be' in power. The people at the top are supposed to be at the top, others at the top who shouldn't be there, got there by cheating. That's the ideology, and you can't shame it because it is simple enough to self correct.
