Discussion / Question I watched my first alien movie
I don't know if this post is really for this subreddit but I just need to get this of my chest.
Today I watched my first alien movie: Alien Romulus. I never ever watched an Alien movie besides of the alien vs predator movies (which I watched a long time ago) and played the videogame "alien Isolation". The game was really good and scared me like any other horror game or movie. With this I mean that I wasn't really that scared but had some moments were I really thought something like "I am going to shit my pants" but not more.
Now to the thing which made me do this post. Alien Romulus really scared the shit out of me and terrified me and Idk why. I mean one of the first scenes were an alien bursted out of a chest I was somwhow pretty terrified but it was okay from then on until the last act of the movie where I really felt like I am going to cry out of fear and I never had this before. This movie was great (probably not as good as the originals but Idk that) but I have the problem that I don't know how to comfort myself now. This last "Xenomorph" (who knows, knows) really scared the shit put of me and I wanted to somehow get this off my chest and wanted to ask if someone had the same expierence once? I just need this comformation somehow idk why and also: how do I comfort myself after this? I really never felt so terrified in my life...
Sorry for the bad english😅

As a lifelong Aliens fan, i definitely think Romulus amped up the horror elements of the franchise in a very good way. There were several terrifying scenes relatively speaking and this was a great start to the franchise for you.

Alien 1 and 3 made me extremely scared at my childhood. Aliens - not so much but still. I saw it all at once on a VHS with single voice translation while there was noone else at home. I wasnt able to sleep normally for days after that.

I think Aliens was actually my first, having played on late night TV when I was a pre-teen. I remember staying up and sitting in front of our big wooden framed box of a TV, Eyes wide with excitement and terror. It's not the scariest of the series as a whole, but some sequences like when they find that kid about to be chestburst, are seared into my consciousness.

They're all interesting even if they aren't all "good". The must watches for me are the original trilogy and the one you just watched. I would actually put the newest one up there with the first 2 so you started out with a great one. Alien 3 is great for being a conclusion to Ripleys story though so you must see it aswell. The first Alien is the best unofficial Lovecraft story ever made. Aliens is probably the coolest action movie ever made.

Thank you! To be honest I was really worried I would get hate for my post. Many people online said they didn't like the new movie this much.

Only thing I didn't care for were the callbacks and I was honestly hoping it would have a bigger cast since it was a whole space station. I have Def been curious what it's like to start with this one as your first film. I feel like knowing what facehuggers are caused a lot of dread when they started waking up.

Understandable. I jad the same thing with the Star Wars Sequels. And these really were shit but I wasn't dissapointed by this movie. I still think it would have been a little bit different when I would have watched the first three films and not only played the game before that.

If you enjoyed Alien: Isolation, you NEED to watch the original “Alien” movie from 1979. The two of them are closely connected, and the creators of Isolation used a treasure trove of art assets from the film (and it shows!).
I don’t know if you played any of the Isolation DLC, but it has the original cast members from the movie reprising their roles.

I have the dlc but didn't look in to it. Totally forgot about that. Gonna look in to that sometime.

If the final creature really creeped you out and you can't get it out of your head, try looking up the actor who played that role. Once I found that out and saw what the person actually looks like, it wasn't scary any more and now I'm like "Cool! Good job! I hope they get more creepy character roles in movies!"

If you're anything like me, it will start an obsession! My folks were really not bothered about age restrictions and I watched Alien and Aliens when Aliens was released when I was 7.
I watched and forced my sister to watch, Aliens to the point she knows which the extra scenes are in the extended cut. I wish I could watch them afresh and have the same experience as you 😁

The last "xenomorph" definitely hits different.
