Cast / Behind The Scenes Alien Earth BTS shows pratical Xeno

Some new images have surfaced, I'm digging the design a lot more now and honestly pretty impressed/happy to see a fully pratical xeno suit (just hoping they don't cover it completely with CG) what do you guys think?

Looks a lot like the “classic” Big Chap, and I suppose that the back exhausts and some details will be retouched with cg, but it does look awesome, I love the head shape

Glad they are using practical, i just hate the resurrection xeno lips and the missing back tubes

The suit looks awesome, but I kinda don't like how the face looks like the face from the ressurection xeno

Maybe it’s a rights issue, must be why they keep reusing it over and over with: Resurrection, AvP, AvP2, and now this.

Or to save money as they must have the molds still.

A rights issue? All the designs belong to 20th Century Fox and now Disney.

Maybe not as sometime stuff gets real complicated. Especially when it involves Giger and he didn’t like Alien 3’s more radical changes than what he wanted and was commissioned for.

All of his work on alien was as a commissioned concept artist, and his estate (whoever holds it) has no right to the design.

With Alien 3, he was actually asked to redesign the creature for it and he wanted to make even more radical changes: full fleshy lips, a different tongue, a more catlike silhouette... The final design actually toned things down but still took inspiration from Giger's idea of a more nimble-looking, lightly built alien.

giger's a3 design was even more radical than ADI's though

It's purely wanting to put your own stamp on it, fit the visual style of the movie better, or practical considerations like using CGI or puppets alongside suits, etc. People who think this is a rights issue have no clue how moviemaking works, the Internet is full of nonsensical rumors like this.

is ADI involved?

Why are there almost no biomechanical features on the arms or legs? And why are the back tubes so short? Hopefully these things will be added in with cgi.

By the looks of it, this xeno may just be for the little teaser close-up:

Based on the color grading of the little snippet, and the lighting and or colors of the bts photos, I'm leaning more on this simplified xeno just being for this teaser close-up with the head in focus.

Would also explain the green dots on the dome. Probably so they can cg out the camera crew and put on the earth.

You’re actually dead on. Cam is directly in front of the suit actor and even on the monitor behind them you can see they’re checking for the lighting on the dome

I hope that's the case.

It could also be an early (stage?) Xeno, given that this is a prequel set 2 years before the original Alien.

i really hate that we keep doing prequels.

On the first picture, the skull under the head carapace doesn't look human. I wonder if that's why there are other physical differences from what we're used to seeing.

u/tigershrk 3d ago

Awesome that they are using practical effects

9

u/Steepleofknives83 2d ago

Don't worry, they'll slather CG all over it in post.

2

u/Angxlafeld 2d ago

Right, every time they talk about using practical effects, the alien or whatever creature is just cgi covered in the end.

u/Zeukah 3d ago

It’s truly glorious. This has me more hyped, the idea of them using practical effects, rather than solely relying on CGI.

It reminds me of the design from AVP - I love it - I always love the different variations regardless

Man, those brave workers! Getting that close to a xenomorph without any safety equipment. They've got it well trained.

u/Maximum-Hood426 3d ago

Why is its back protrusions so small?

16

u/Kwtwo1983 2d ago

He just came out of the cold water! Stop body shaming

2

u/TheWhooooBuddies 1d ago

Wait, wait—

It shrinks?

11

u/Antique_Airport6300 3d ago

I'm pretty sure they'll elongate them--along with other details--with cgi.

u/hrvrts 2d ago

For a minute I thought it was a predator and an engineer standing next to it.

Also, the lighting is the same as the alien from the trailer. So maybe this is where they did that shot and it was (partially) practical?

5

u/GroundbreakingCow775 3d ago

I want to see a leprechaun alien

3

u/DelcoPAMan 3d ago

The franchise crossover we've been waiting for!

8

u/Beccy_Flynn 3d ago

The protrusions on the back and the chest piece look just awful. Head looks just ok in these photos.

I just don’t understand the need to change the look everytime.

Further from Alien, closer to Star beast. Looks kinda generic.

11

u/erpietra01 3d ago

They change the look every time because it’s the nature of the Xeno itself: its appearance depends on the host and the environment.

Alien: “average” xeno born from humans Aliens: introduced different classes born from the queen and not by eggmorphing (of course this still includes the facehuggers) Alien3: xeno born from an animal Resurrection: xenos cloned and experimented upon Prometheus: not a xeno Covenant: a reverse engineered version of a xeno Romulus: cloned and reverse engineered xenos

Maybe this new xeno has a different origin altogether, or they simply refined a 45 year old design. Either way, we are talking about BTS photos, not the final product

u/captbellybutton 2d ago

Good it should always be a guy in a suit. (With a ton of wire work so it can jump crawl and do all the cool stuff.)

3

u/Wonderful-Complex-39 3d ago

Yea no feeling this one getting avp studio adi vibes.I'll still give the show a chance..I really want the next alien movie/show to give the ridge dome xeno a shot again.

1

u/JoeNathan78 2d ago

The dome looks translucent! 💀😬

1

u/real_picklejuice 2d ago

I’m curious if we are going to get back to a plantigrade gait compared to the digitigrade we had in Romulus/Isolation.

I’m not sure which I’m a fan of more

1

u/Rhesusmonkeydave 2d ago

Chonky dad bod. And some lazy ass arms and legs but hey, they know their shot composition and I don’t so judgement on hold

1

u/Villanellexbian 2d ago

the way it's just standing there in the second pic like 🧍is makin me giggle

1

u/johnsmith1234567890x 2d ago

Face of big chap was scarier due to human like jaw

1

u/pm8rsh88 2d ago

There is an entirly behind the scenes video for the making of the teaser, which is what these are from BTW.

1

u/THX450 2d ago

Fuck yes, I can even see the dome under the skull.

Between Romulus and Alien: Earth, I am glad Xenos are sticking to the mostly practical effects after the brief mostly-CGI stint in Alien: Covenant.

1

u/troika1310 2d ago

Practical Xeno with tracking markers for VFX on the head in the first shot. 🙄

1

u/al_fletcher 2d ago

Ladies and androids, we are so back

1

u/Electronic-Egg-3950 2d ago

top lip is so long 😭😭 the jaw is set too low it looks cursed

1

u/Fit_Monk_8377 2d ago

We got the K-pop fan xenomorph. This reminds me of the cookie run and BTS collab

1

u/Untouchable64 2d ago

Ooooo that looks nice!

1

u/ludvikskp 1d ago

It’s again a new design iteration. It kind of has more “nose”, the space between the dome and the lips and teeth. And also a different jaw and detailing on the side. I kind of don’t like the side view, looks a but goofy.

1

u/Gustavthegoose 1d ago

Fan bases in 2024 are so weird. We getting mad about lip length and exhaust tube positions now?

1

u/claud2113 2d ago

Please, just... be good. Romulus was better than Covenant, but relied way too heavily on references to other alien flicks.

1

u/vikar_ 2d ago

The arms just look like gloves, strong "man in a rubber suit" vibes. Not crazy about the face, but at least they kept the biomechanical aesthetic in the head design.

Overall, the series is going to be a nostalgia milking shitfest anyway. Bringing aliens to Earth in a prequel is a fundamentally misguided idea, showing the creators don't know what they're doing.

0

u/DealFast8781 2d ago

Hopefully no CGI alien like the teaser one, i know its not the final work but looked cheap. Looking forward to this show

0

u/Paintitblack1 2d ago

This looks terrible? Like a Batman suit with a cheap Halloween costume shop head🫤

-5

u/wierzbowski85 2d ago

Already looking better than Romulus tbh.

1

u/dosdes 1d ago

My only concern is they trying to feed the audience with baby Xenomorphs and and family Xenomorphs just making their way in the galaxy... as other shows recently did....
