Moderator Post Rules Updated and Wiki Links Added
Welcome to r/Kitten!
This is a great subreddit and can be a great resource for the rest of Reddit. While this post is mostly cute pictures of kittens, we also get frequent questions about care, breeds, and more. To be able to deal with all of this better, I've updated the rules and created two wiki pages:
Rules
- OC Content Only. This is a change from before, where we did allow content of kittens that weren't yours. This is because I found that a lot of these images come from spam accounts and/or karma farmers. I have also updated flairs to reflect this change.
- Be Respectful. This should speak for itself, but we require all users to be respectful. We don't tolerate harassment, racism, sexism, homophobia, or any other bigotry.
- NSFW and Kitten Sexing. We don't allow any NSFW content or posts about helping to sex your kittens. This also includes medical advice. If you need medical advice, your kitten is injured or sick, or you need to know the sex of your kittens, please see a vet!
- Animal Cruelty. We don't allow any type of animal cruelty, including "jokes" about eating kittens.
Wiki pages
- Colours and Patterns. A link to this will be posted below any questions about breeds, as I've noticed we have gotten a lot of those recently.
- Found a Kitten. For anyone who wants to take in stray kittens or has found a kitten on the street, here's a care guide for young kittens.
What other guides would you like to see, or would you like to help with writing something? Please let us know!
Happy posting/commenting!

Question/Advice Needed She won’t use her litter box
We just got a kitten and she’s 6-7weeks. She’s been fine with everything except her litter box. It’s like she’s absolutely terrified of her litter box. It’s in a corner away from her food and we used kitty litter. She just got up and was meowing, I put her in the box myself and she absolutely freaked, so I left hoping that she’d go since nobody was watching but no. She just pooped on the floor 😭
I have no idea why she won’t use her box. I put her poop in the litter box and am hoping that she’ll smell it in there and go use it. But if anyone has any ideas as to why this is please help.
For context: This is her first night home, she was a stray, abandoned in a trash bin (not sure if that could be a reason), metal litter box (maybe she doesn’t like the sound?), Just had surgery, has a cone on (her box is open though so there’s no difficulty getting in or out of it)

Seen in Real Life This little angle was with us for few days
Had this kitten in our backyard. Her mother gave birth to four here a couple of days ago. Took them all with her but left this cutie behind. Don’t know why that idiot had to do that. We tried to feed this one and give her warmth but nothing worked. She died today. Peacefully. Hope the rest of her kittens have a better life. Fuckin heartless mother…

Question/Advice Needed My brother wants his kitten he brought along to be more alone when visiting
So my brother is visiting for Christmas and he brought his new kitten along. She's almost 5 months old.
My dad and step mom had several cats over the years. Got 1 and 2 from my uncle, 2 died cause he got bit terribly, got 3, got 4, got 5, gave 4 away, 5 died cause of a car, got 6, got 7. This is over 10 years. They have experience.
He's been here for 3 days now. Today we were all watching a movie, and my step mom starts talking to my brother. She said it's important to remember to pet the kitten. She picks the kitten up while we were watching a movie and starts petting her.
I don't remember exactly what she said but she said it was important cause she's going to be an outdoor cat cause my brother said the kitten was gonna go outdoors eventually. She made a comment about him not knowing much about cats.
We're sharing the same room on the highest floor so when he came up to me when I was going to bed he said that he was gonna keep the kitten up in the room with the door locked on occasion. He says the kitten was being petted against her will. He said to keep this a secret or else it would turn into drama and he would have to leave.
What do I do? Who's right?

Question/Advice Needed Our kitten is a huge furball of sassiness
Hello everyone!
Happy to be here. We have a 5 1/2-month-old kitten who is incredibly intelligent, super active with boundless energy, and overall a very sweet little boy. He was neutered last Friday and is, fortunately, a very healthy cat.
He's quite talkative, which we love, but I've noticed something unique about him compared to our other two cats (whom I've had since they were kittens, too). He tends to vocalize his annoyance at almost everything (especially when he’s in a playful mood):
- Picking him up to redirect him to his scratching post? "Kekekekekek."
- Cleaning his eyes or ears? "Kekekekek."
- Patting his head to comfort him when he gets overly energetic? "KekekeNO-I-WANT-TO-PLAYkekekek."
- Playing with one of his plushies that "fights back"? "Kekekekek."
- Lifting him off the table (since he’s not supposed to be there)? "Kekekek."
Basically, whenever something doesn’t go his way or he can’t do what he wants, he makes his disapproval very clear.
As mentioned, he recently had a thorough checkup before getting neutered, and he’s perfectly healthy. He just seems to have little patience for things he dislikes.
Have any of you experienced something similar with your kittens? Our other two (one of a highly vocal breed) also had their preferences, but they never verbally “complained” about anything like this little guy does! He makes me really feel like a total buzzkill, haha.

Question/Advice Needed Welcoming kittens in a house with multiple floors
Next month we will welcome 2 kittens in our home. It is the first time we will welcome kittens in our home since we moved.
For context, our house has 3 floors. On the ground floor, we have our open kitchen. With the stairs you will be able to go to the first floor which has our living room, guest room and 2 work rooms (with desk). These rooms are open and do not have a door. On the upper floor, there is our bedroom, bathroom and maintenance room. The bedroom is also open but the other two have a door.
I am wondering what would be the best way to make the kittens comfortable in this kind of house.

My Kitten How Is This Comfortable???
Timi, in her red and green Xmas collar, is superman flying with her back paws laid across my shin. Kami, with her candy cane collar, is rag dolling it bodily across my other shin.
Every few seconds someone twitches, flicks a tail, or turns an ear.
My toes have gone numb and I have to pee.
Send help.

My Kitten Best Way to Occupy Kittens
This was supposed to be a Xmas gift from Santa Paws, but I'm just a big kid, so they got it early. They will play with this thing for an hour straight. It's motion activated, so I had to turn it off and take it away. It makes this squeezing mouse noise, which they live for!!! It's also rechargeable.
