can people please learn the proper placement of the lights? it's right to left, not left to right, and not starting in the middle. on each subsequent night, a new light is placed to the left of the first light. lighting goes from left to right, starting from the newest light to the oldest. this is straight from the Shulhan Arukh, cited in the Ben Ish Hai.

yikes friend, it’s possible to educate without shaming. jews can choose to engage with judaism to whatever degree and in whatever ways make them feel connected to their ancestry. it sounds like you have great knowledge to share! and, someone who doesn’t have that same knowledge or prioritize the specific details you do isn’t less of a jew

We have bigger fish to fry than where the candles go on the menorah. I understand what you're saying and it goes without saying that I didn't say anything with the intention of offending or upsetting you.

Like many, I'm cut off from my Jewish community because they're a bunch of filthy Zionists. So yeah, I am having to figure it out as I go along with a gentile husband and a 2 year old. I ask that you give some grace for those that don't have the knowledge/understanding/resources as you.

I am a patrilineal Jew btw, just to stir the pot further. With two generations of defectors above me. So it is my great grandfather to whom I owe my identity. I don't think it's helpful to try police people and then call it disrespect. Feels like you're trying to deliberately misunderstand the intention of the message. Which is... happy Chanukah !

I certainly cannot speak for Reconstructing Judaism. But I am sure there is no attempt to disrespect the great masterwork of the 16th century. To get a better idea, I wish you would take a look at their official web site, reconstructingjudaism.org. I believe the major attempt is to provide a service for the evolving jewish civilization.
