Food 🧆 Why have you been hiding Nesher Malts from the rest of us?
I recently discovered Nesher Malts and it's probably my new favorite drink. I only wish it came in an alcoholic version and I'd be drinking it all the time.
Everybody knows Israel is famous for Bamba but why are you keeping Nesher Malts a secret? That's a drink which should be pushed more.
What other secret deliciousness are you hiding, Israel?

My childhood favorite. If you don't have them maybe you can look for eastern european "kvass". But its less malt and more rye.

Israel didn't invent non alcoholic malt bevages, they are in fact most popular in the Caribbean and west Africa under brands like Supermalt and Malta Goya. They are allegedly also popular in Muslim countries where alcohol is haram. The product has never taken off in America, allegedly because American consumers are confused as to whether they are beer or soda. Also they are not to my taste, but I am glad you enjoy.

There was another Israeli brand that was available in kosher/jewish stores in Canada when I was a kid in the 90s that I absolutely loved and this just sent me down a Google rabbit hole. Thanks for the trip down nostalgia lane

I finally managed to stop drinking Coke when I started drinking Nesher. Still lots of sugar but tastes better and feels a little more healthy.

isn't the same as what Americans call root beer?

It isn't. It's malt beer and not root beer - hence the names "Malti"/ "Nesher Malt" etc.

Locally made ‘root beer’ can be hit or miss. Depends on what they were going for. If you are not afraid of ‘overly sweet’ beverages, then you would have to try ‘IBC’, or ‘Dads’, or ‘Hires’ or ‘A&W’. These are all the mass produced classic American brands and they are can’t miss. If sweet drinks are not your thing, then American Root Beer is not for you. I have yet to try Nesher Malt but will keep an eye out
