Shut off the oil then

Please 🙏 I just want them to feel some kind of repercussions for their genocide in Gaza and reckless attacks in the greater Middle East. It’s insane how the West has done nothing so far to even hurt them economically, let alone militarily. Shutting off the oil could also be a great first step to hopefully coax other Western nations into taking actual action.

tbf, their economy is in meltdown mode and unlikely to recover soon.

It's been in meltdown since the xviii century, they can endure this.

You see, I’m all for hurting Israel everywhere possible. I want the oil delivery to Israel to stop and hold Turkey accountable for it. But I don’t think you understand the logistics of said pipeline? It’s not like Turkey has a valve they can just screw tight and stop oil, it’s not your bathroom faucet.

Read these two articles that give a but more nuance to the situation.

Does Turkey have a duty to turn off the taps on oil supplies to Israel?

Türkiye rejects claims of oil flowing to Israel from Ceyhan

Turkish president says he will not 'continue or develop relations' with Israel in future

13 November 2024

Turkey has severed all ties with Israel, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Wednesday.

Erdogan made the comments to journalists aboard his plane following visits to Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan.

“The government of the Republic of Turkey, under the leadership of Tayyip Erdogan, will not continue or develop relations with Israel,” Erdogan said.

“[Our ruling coalition] is resolute in its decision to cut ties with Israel, and we will maintain this stance in the future as well.”

“We, as the Republic of Turkey and its government, have currently severed all relations with Israel."

Despite imposing a trade embargo on Israel in May, Ankara continues to maintain diplomatic relations with the country.

Although the Turkish government formally recalled its ambassador last year for consultations, Turkish diplomatic missions in Tel Aviv remain open and operational.

Similarly, Israel evacuated its embassy in Ankara last year, citing regional security threats.

Erdogan also emphasised on Wednesday that Turkey would do everything in its power to hold Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accountable for his actions in Gaza, which international human rights groups have described as genocide.

Earlier this year, Turkey intervened in a genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in support of Palestine and advocated for an arms embargo against Tel Aviv.

Erdogan said 52 countries and two international organisations had expressed their support for the arms embargo initiative Turkey launched at the United Nations in early November, aimed at preventing the shipment of weapons and ammunition to Israel.... Wasn't a ship with weapons bound for Israel dock in Turkey, like a week ago? So much for the arms embargo

It docked in Egypt, it went to Turkey after it unloaded all weapons.

SA is making a play. They were waiting for Trump, corruption is easy when you know exactly what the other party wants.

SA pockets are deeper than anyone else. Israel overplayed its hand and AIPAC money can’t compete. So now SA decides the terms moving forward.

(SA is short for South Africa. Saudi Arabia is KSA for Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to avoid confusion.)
Apart from this not being a great thing either, it has no basis in reality. No other country even has the ability to touch the influence Israel has on US elections because they simply do not have the necessary institutions in place to be able to spend their money.

A look at DC think tanks will show that UAE and KSA are becoming more familiar with the process, including lots of speaking fees for retired military.

Second, they already have a direct line to the incoming admin, so they can bypass all the in-betweens. They only need to speak to one person now.

You can only rent so many Trump properties. I'm not saying they don't have influence and that it's not growing, just that they're not competing with Israel anytime soon and they have shown very little interest in getting involved with anything relating to Israel at all.

SA is saudia arabia

ZA is south africa

9

u/oncothrow Nov 14 '24

What evidence is there that (Saudi Arabia?) is looking to do what AIPAC does?

As far as anyone's seen, it's the opposite. The Saudi government does whatever they want (like oh, I don't know, murdering and dismembering a journalist in one of their embassies) and the US occasionally tut tuts but protects them.

4

u/tagrephile Nov 14 '24

Only speculation. Why would they call it a genocide now after waiting a year?

KSA gets the same deference as Israel when it commits atrocities (Khashoggi, Yemen, 9/11). Saudis already gave $2B to the Trump family. The corruption was out in the open. And they’ll do it again because Trump has proven he can be bought.

Biden is a Zionist. He wasn’t going to be swayed. Trump can and will be bought.

10

u/oncothrow Nov 14 '24

Why would they call it a genocide now after waiting a year?

Because you can't pretend your population isn't hearing everything that is happening no matter how hard you try to block it all. So you make noises about how weely weely upset this all makes you, and hope that the populace doesn't get worked up enough that they start trying to make you do anything about it. Because outside of the two holy cities in Saudi, Jerusalem and Aqsa mosque is a particular focal point for discontent for a muslim population in a country that espouse itself as the defender of their faith. People start asking questions, like "why are we trying to normalise relationships with Israel when they're butchering muslims and want to demolish Aqsa?"

3

u/tagrephile Nov 14 '24

The entire world has been critical of Israel but tiptoeing the “G” word. KSA has no problem suppressing their population and I am under no illusion they are out to “defend Islam.” So this is an alternative thesis that these comments are for the world stage.

SA is a bunch h of amateurs compared to AIPAC and rh lobby.

This seems like BS

5

u/amir_babfish Nov 14 '24

then israel will have an election, Recep will say "this new guy looks nice, let's build ties again", but the damage is done, and no future israeli government would compensate for the war, and everyone will forget and move on.

Shut the oil

2

u/Luc2992 Nov 14 '24

can you imagine how fucking evil you must be if even Erdogan goes like "nah... I don't want anything to do with those people"
