Discussion Are Indycar parts rare?

I was recently scrolling on Facebook marketplace and found the engine cover to a ir-05 indycar for $200 I instantly offered $175 and the guy agreed. I’ve never seen anything like this on anywhere to buy something like this. I am a huge indycar fan so this really works out for me but I was wondering if anyone else had anything similar to this?

Mechanical parts are rare. They just don't make many of these cars.

Any cosmetic (body) part that can fall off the car in a wreck is still technically rare but they often end up in the hands of fans when damaged. So they get passed around a lot more. And they take up a lot of space so people are more apt to get tired of having them.

I think tires are the bottom of the barrel, price-wise. Some people pick up used tires at races, cart them home and the pretty rapidly wonder why they have a used tire sitting around. Also, teams go through a lot of tires.

That happened to me at Donington Park DTM in '02 or '03. Dunlop were giving away the tires at the back of the paddock.....there was an tyre tech carving names and pictures into them with a hot knife if you asked nicely and waited.

I took a plain one home, put it in my garage and spent 5 years wondering what to do with it before giving it away to a motorsport loving friend.

Probably saved them a fortune in disposal fees
