I would give them a lot more support if they ran an actual Lambo engine

Which of the teams/makes do?

Porsche. Ferrari. Is that it? Upcoming Aston?

The Cadillac engine isn't completely not a GM block, but it's really a Hendricks motor, right?

The Cadillac engine is likely based on the C8.R, but with a crossplane crank to give it that distinctive sound (and IIRC reduce vibration). The old engines they were using in the DPi cars were based on NASCAR blocks with a shorter stroke.

I was excited when I first heard about the program. With lamborghini being known for their V-12's it feels like a disappointed that they went with a turbo 8

It’s difficult to pack V12 with battery powertrain in a prototype car. Even LMH has more freely designs, but Aston Martin LMH comes V12 only and without battery pack.

The battery in the LMDh is located on the passenger side of the chassis next to the driver, so with a V12 it wouldn't make a difference whether hybrid or not. But there's other drawbacks which is why nobody else did it.
