I turn them off or set them to minimal.
The retirements are all scripted and premeditated, and don't make sense.

I found a way to cheese it, if you flashback before the failure pops up you can go a tiny bit further, about 5-6 flashbacks/lap and you can finish races no problem (this worked in '21 but probably still works, just be careful because you need to flashback before the failure and if you wait too much you get the black and white failure screen and you can't do anything but accept your fate)

Yep, I can confirm it still works in 24

Just keep doing it. Everytime it pops, flashback. I finished many races doing that haha

I don't know which game this is but F1 23 has a lovely habit of making a fresh engine component fail, especially when you install several new parts at once (a full rebuild has like a ~90% chance of failure when I first race it) and of course a highly needed one will fail like a gearbox or ES
You just need to get a set good set and avoid using new components and especially avoid taking a penalty because I feel like they're even more likely to fail

I turned them off because it happens way too often. Thought it would help with immersion since other drivers can retire with mechanical issues but I can’t. Unfortunately these retirements are way too frequent.
F1 Manager does this pretty well. Power units are more likely to fault/fail the more they are used. I’ve had it happen so often where F1 24 will fail a power unit that is brand new. So annoying.
